Those planes of that era were beautiful! I love all WW2 aircraft fighters and bombers because I'm a model kit builder of aircraft! I have been right up to them in museums and the experience is unlike anything else. 🇨🇦👍🥃✌️
@? I meant more from a craftsman standpoint. A lot of labor and woodwork went into each plane. And that's not fair. Every major country had airframes that quickly went out of date due to the rapid development and competitiveness of the war. A good example is the P-40 Kitty Hawk. Even though conceived after the A6M, it underperformed in comparison and quickly went out of date. The big difference was the US had the industrial strength and resources to keep building on the P-40. Japan, however, did not. Thus put far less emphasis on airpower. Had they had the resources, the A6M would have continued to be upgraded just like the P-40. I wouldn't say useless even in 1942. The US flew kitty hawks well into the war even after later versions and P-51s were available. Being able to launch any aircraft would be preferable to none at all. They simply didn't have the oil or the resources to replenish all those hand-built planes.
Indeed to bad japan needed metals to reinforce the structure of the plane. Instead they use wood which made the zero very agile it also made it very easy to shoot down once the Americans developed better fighting techniques. But it certainly was the best plane for the first years of its conception. I like the Kawanishi N1K a late war Japanese fighter plane the ki 84 was also very capable.
@@Rogue-7.62 Ki-61? Cool looking airplane BUT Kawasaki never could figure out how to construct a reliable rendition of the German Db 601 engine. And let's be "Frank" here. The Ki 84 was superior to both .
It's amazing when you consider 100 years before, Japan was a medieval feudal society. 100 years ago today takes us back to 'The Roaring 20's' Some peoples parents were born in the 20's.
IMHO nearly all WW2 aircraft were great in their own way, but truth be told the P-51 Mustang, and F4U Corsair were the finest in each own right. The Spitfire would also make my list.
Beautiful airplane in 1941. The Nakajima Ki 84, Kawasaki Ki 100 and Kawanishi N1K2-J certainly bested the A6M2 towards the war's end. Much materiel and manpower misappropriated towards the obsolete "0" by then and no backup system for replacement pilot training in place for the longer war. So it seems some of their military planners were about as dumb as some of ours, lol.
Great sound...unique, also....and great video, the propeller looks like it's turning normal, not standing still, turning backwards, bending around, fluttering like in some of these videos...that always drives me nuts..... :b
No it's oil from the lower cylinders...the oil consumption was a problem with this engines ...heritage from the good Gnome&Rhone designers....the France Air Ministry would never authorize the export if it was a sound design....I think that the Japanese solve this in the end. Here in Romania whe used the same engine for the IAR 80 plane and by the time production started they successfully cured the oil consumption problem...
+ Benjámin Palóczi #61-120 is an original example and it is the only example that flies with the original Sakae engine. It is kept at the Planes of Fame Museum in California.
P51 mustang and the spitfire used 150 octanes while this zero used 87. This means less boost and power. Spread the word also the RAF was a joke! They had to beg 20 countries for help summer 1940 and mistreated the Polish pilots.

These planes were a work of art.
Yeah but became effectively useless a few years after their debut, except for kamikaze suicide missions.

アメリカできちんとメンテされているとはいえ、70年以上前の複雑な構造のエンジンが元気に稼働することに感動。 当時の技術力、すごい!

Sounds super-smooth!
I LOVE the sound of that engine!
Gotta love the true classic planes

The Nakajima Sakae engine is a evolution from the Gnome Rhone 14K: the empire of the rising sun did buy the license before ww2...
AWESOME engine sound. The A6M Zero is my favourite fighter of WWII.
I also really like the G4M Betty bomber.
I agree both those and the ki43ii are my favorites
Ki-61 or Ki-44 anywhere on that list? 😉
@@Rogue-7.62 I love the KI44!!
Nice sound to it but my fave is the Fw 190. BTW, if they were all this hard to start up it's prolly no wonder they lost the war. ; ))

A6M Aero and Bf-109 are the best WW2 planes !
You can't be serious!
hahaha 😜
No 👎
P - 51
@@viviennerose7100 only in high altitude, in low altitude bf-109 still outpaced mustang
Jiro Horikoshi's greatest
it's beautiful!!

Saburo Sakai favourites plane!!!
Sakai knew the plane and its capabilities like the back of his hand.
Always a treat when i see this bird fly. Haven't seen it since the pandemic. Mayve this year.
Sweet running engine for sure

Yah, exactly !!
finaly a Zero with a REAL Japan made engine
Driving one of these is upon my wishlist
fly
Super maneuverable..but a couple rounds would tear them in half..they were practically a paper airplane
The "Zero" ... adroit fighter with almost zero protection for human (s) on board. Deadly machine appropriate for the time.
If it looks right,it will usually fly right...as the zero did.
What RPM does the VTEC kick in ? LOL nice plane Great sounding engine!

dyer2cycle I believe that optical illusion is the difference between the camera's recording rate and the rpm on the prop
I believe it’s called strobe effect and can’t be helped. Same principle as engine timing lights.
Something is leaking under the engine right before starting it. Fuel?

Zero je zakon.
Nakajima wanted to put their own engine in the plane but Mitsubishi had a better engine so they were forced to go with the Sakae.
Other way round
@@Colt45hatchback You are correct.
The Sakae is a Nakajima
Interestingly, though, the Nakajima B5N torpedo bombers used Mitsubishi engines, so...
Sounds like a radial engine 🙈
Maybe because it is a radial engine. 14 cylinders as I recall...
Named after ace Saburu Sakai. 😂

Nope, the Nakajima Sakae is a evolution form the french engine Gnome Rhone 14K...Nakajima did buy the license before the war...
