My dad will be starting off with folfox next week...can you elaborate on the ice packs?

The ice is used to decrease chemo side effects (neuropathy) in the hands, feet and mouth, because it constricts blood vessels around the nerves, thus exposing them less to the toxic drugs. The effects are mostly due to oxalilatin and other platinium based drugs. Water-fasting 1-2 days prior to chemo, the day of chemo and day after chemo (3-4 days) helps as well (perhaps even more) since it protects the healthy (but not malignant) cells from chemo induced damage. Fasting has also been shown to improve treatment outcomes. There's several videos on youtube which talk about fasting and chemo (I will list the titles below as it doesn't let me post links). Substances such as melatonin, CBD oil, lion's mane mushroom extract, magnesium and selenium have also been shown to reduce side effects.

Thank for this valuable important info, I m about to start chemo and I will fast before & after each round of chemo because fasting often has brought me through some rough trails in the name of Jesus.

How did you ice your hands? Did you put your hands inside the sock of the water bottles?

Ice reduces the side effects of the chemo drugs. Fasting (1-2 day before, during and 1 day after chemo) helps as well. Also melatonin, CBD oil, magnesium and selenium help as well.

@@Seeker_of_sense Fasting? No food and drink for 24 hours before the procedure?

@@Trytocookthis You can drink water or tea, but unsweetened. They did studies on it. There's even inetrviews with the professor here on CZcams who did the study. His name is Walter Longo. It works because fasting leads to slower cell proliferation in your mucosal cells in the intestine etc, resulting in less chemo damage. But don't do it if you alread are underweight. My wife went through chmo nd we did the iceing, plus magnesium pills during anf util 3 days after chemo as studies have shown this prevents nerve damage. We also used melatonin and CBD oil as studies have shown this helps as well, but if you can't get CBD oil or melatonin, the other two should be enough. Good uck.

@@Trytocookthis I can understand. If you don't mind me asking, what cancer do you have? My wife has colon cancer and I have a biomedical background, so I studied all the research papers and that topic out there. And lo and behold, there's plenty of small clinial and pre clinical trials that showed great success rates with varous compunds (over 90%), but none of them is 'standard of care'. Why? Because they are neer, but also because they compunds they studied can easily be purchased as supplements onlne for a few bucks. So why would anyone invest billions into large clinical trials if there's no money to be made. This is the sad reality. I am pretty certain many of these compounds work with many types of cancer as the way they work isn't cancer specific.
