I just stumbled on this video and have just finished it. Ive never heard this tale. My favorite fictional literary character is Leto II and after i first read God Emperor of Dune...i always wondered about those times in his past..when he had first taken the skin, and the throne. This story offers a lot that the book passed over. Leto and Ghanima shared a bond so unique...and we all knew that he lost his closest companion when she died. We knew Leto thousands of years after that..only getting a glimpse of it through Sionas stolen journals. Immortality..even...if you like. ..limited immortality is a terrifying idea. You lose over and over again those closest to you. Ghanimas death must have been a trauma for Leto that he had to internalize and overcome. Thanks for this presentation!

I was thinking the other day how terrifying being actually immortal, you'll watch the entire planet die, you will see the sun burn out. Living longer then the sun will exist is a scary prospect to me.

This is a beautiful story, GDN, of a beautiful soul. A character encompassing more than a potent womanly or matriarchal figure...one who embodies the representation of “family” in the Dune universe, across centuries of lifetime. And beyond, in legend.
Yet another eloquently composed video conveying the dramatic life of Leto's twin. A truly noble person, whose informal role, whose very existence, provided crucial touchstones of primal humanity within the God-Emperor's empire and of course most importantly to the 'evolving' Leto as well. A mother of ten children, after all. No surrogacy of any kind, here. Ghanima is one of the most respected and respectable characters across the Dune saga.
Thank you, Narrator, for continuing to fill out this far and wide universe through its influential figures. Dune is a milestone work, ever to be inspirational and influential. I am very grateful for all that you do, GDN, and wish you a comfortable and pleasant holidays, ideally even a happy week(end). Merry Christmas, happy holidays...and may the blessings of Shai-Hulud be upon you.

Small correction. I think you meant . Irulan was her father's wife rather than grandfather.

So... Is the best place to start with Dune the original novel or is there somewhere else do you think?

    • @antoinegarcia5602

Yes, what else is there aside from the books and the movies ?

Definitely the original novel. Then follow up with Dune Messiah and Children of Dune. God Emperor is probably the deepest and most complex but you can postpone that for a while afterwards. The prequel novels House Atreides, House Harkonnen and House Corrino are good to deepen your understanding of the factions you learn about in the original. Although they retcon some stuff or add story elements. There's more books besides all these but you can read those in chronological order.

Just rewatched children of dune miniseries. They do alude to there being a layer of sexuality between her and her twin brother. The scene were they reunite and they look at each other in the mirror. Their relationship was not.one of vanity and lust such as in Game of Thrones. Her children had the family name so im guessing what it was the marriage was that he would be the father of her children between her and farad since he was actually not able to have sexual relationships, futher removing the Carinno name from the throne. It was also to make it eqsier for the family to track because her marriage to Farrad would have more or less ended the name. In even our society its ingrained into us you last name is.your fathers, you only carry your mothers name unless your a bastard and your mother didnt know your fathers name. If he didnt marry her the children would most likely had the Corinno name.

I think the miniseries did what it could to put the twins in a movie format. It does come through that they have a "special" relationship but I never got the feeling that it was incestuous. It's a lot more bizarre in the book and that probably would've have translated well.

Ghanima and leto had it hard but
in The End they stick their goal's in their own term's and that was not easy with all that political intrigue
Merry Christmas grimdark i give a
