A man was caught on camera stealing an Oklahoma Highway Patrol K9 unit during a traffic stop. It happened in Canadian County on I-40 around 8:30 p.m. on January 10th. The night started out with a traffic stop. Benjamin Henson, 23, was pulled over for following too closely and unsafe lane changing.
He gets in the OHP unit, and then the trooper asks him a few questions before giving him a warning ticket. It is then the officer ask to search the vehicle and finds bags of marijuana in the vehicle.
Henson is then handcuffed while still in the front seat of the vehicle. He brings the handcuffs from his back to his front and jumps into the driver’s seat and takes off.

It was technically never stolen, as officer Dogo remained in the vehicle and had full control over the situation.

Making up a city would be better than awkwardly saying you're not sure which city you just came from like this guy did BUT if the cop was born and raised in Oklahoma, you better take a really good guess! If the city exists and the cop is familiar with it, he could start asking you more questions or he could ask why you took this highway to your destination instead of something that would've made way more sense. Dumbass didn't do his homework and screwed himself!

Update:::: Troopers were also concerned since besides Cache, one of the trooper's guns was also inside the car. An All-Points Bulletin went out and Oklahoma City police assisted in the search.
Vincent says it was the OCPD helicopter that managed to find the trooper's car near SW 36th and Thomas Rd. But Henson was gone. Troopers found him about a half a mile away hiding in the nearby creek - still in handcuffs
Such a polite young man, kind to the officer and nice to the dog. It was an accident that he fell over to the drivers seat in the police car and his foot got stuck on the gas pedal. He even prevented any injury to living beings by steering the reckless car away from inhabited zones. So he was heroically able to stop the malfunction of the automatic gear by hitting that fence.

Officer Dogo in the back, ordered this nice young man to take charge of the vehicle, so it wasn’t stolen. It was in possession of the police dog.
Since the marijuana left police custody when they lost control of it as it went all over the highway when it left the hood of the squad car, chain of custody was broken leaving no evidence. Case dismissed! 🤣🎉😉.

@@david14fan Not sure about "every department" but I did check with my local P.D. and they have no such policy. It is actually a terminable offense to "comandere" and vehicle- regardless the scenario.
I would be curious to learn what the split is- how many departments allow such action versus those that do not. I am sure there are many that do- depending upon the context.

Assuming the cop did find that his license had been reinstated, this was almost the luckiest guy ever. All he had to do was say, "sorry, I don't consent to searches."

The dog tracked him. If he could have taken officer K9 with him, would have been better, it has his scent from the get go. Although, he probably would have lost an arm trying to get the dog out of the vehicle. All things considered, it was a relatively uneventful theft of a police vehicle while in custody. A warning would suffice.

I got pulled over heading to Wisconsin traveling north on i51 in Illinois. Pretty much exact same scenario I got pulled over doing 71 in a 65, made me sit in his car. I didn’t have drugs or anything though.

It's mostly a highway patrol thing. I was asked to sit in the front seat of a squad car when I was stopped by a Missouri Hi-Po. It's so they can more easily detect odors of drugs or alcohol or speech patterns that indicate you are under the influence. The part that probably isn't standard procedure was leaving the dude in the front seat while the officer searched the vehicle. They should have put him in the other officer's car while they searched since he didn't have a back seat.

I remember my youth and all the really stupid things I did risking my life and the safety of others but I never did something as stupid as this young man did. He obviously was hired to transport the weed. I can only imagine that his life will now be in extreme danger for not completing the mission for the dealers. My opinion is he will be safer in prison which after pulling this stunt is no doubt where he will land. How sad to see that this young man's future is ruined after making such a foolish choice. He had a whole life ahead of him and in a blink of an eye he destroyed it.
