Raw Dashcam Video: Oklahoma High Speed Chase Ends In Crash

A high-speed chase in Canadian County ended in a crash near the Cimarron Road exit. It started as a routine traffic stop on I-40 when authorities said Andrew Sawyers of Florida was traveling at a high rate of speed through a construction zone.
“When our agent approached the driver’s window, he noticed two empty beer bottles in the passenger’s seat,” said Mark Woodward, spokesman for the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.
When the driver was asked to step out of the vehicle, the OBN agent noticed him putting something in his jacket pocket.
“He asked the driver what it was and the driver reached into his jacket pocket and with two fingers he pulled out a weapon, a hand gun, and dropped it to his feet and immediately jumped into his car and took off,” Woodward said.
Officials said the driver headed eastbound on I-40 and that he was traveling more than 100 miles an hour for 25 miles.
The chase ended when the driver crashed into some tr
ees after exiting at Cimarron Road.
Sawyers was taken to a hospital for his injuries.
In addition to the handgun in his jacket, agents also found two rifles.
Sawyers faces charges including eluding a police officer as well as weapon charges.

It was a DUI investigation- he was likely not getting a ticket. He was likely going to be arrested. Instead he decided to try and make that not happen & somehow thought it would work
@@brycecarlson3395 I think that this guy had some sort of mental disability, one that negated his judgement and caused him to speak in such a way. He drove so well for a long time and used turn signals that I personally doubt he was intoxicated enough to speak that way, seemed natural for him.

I'm pretty sure one of the tazer wires didn't connect correctly (it only works if both of them go into the person) because he had no reaction at all, which is pretty much impossible.

And one of the officers even told him that all he would have gotten was a ticket for driving with a suspended license and been back on the road going home because they dont arrest someone for just having a suspended license. They checked for any warrants and there was nothing. The dude was simply a dumbass

55 mph zone, clocked 61? That's what, 9-10 kmh over limit? I'm in Canada, so we use kmh. Most times here that little over limit, I doubt they would even pull me over. On highway construction zone....maybe, maybe when real busy, some less safer time they might. In school zone, community zone etc other places, yes.. It's 110 kmh ilmit on Trans Canada highway in my province. I've passed cops parked with radar doing 120-122 kmh on cruise and they won't bother on an open divided highway. US cops strict lol...all good...just saying. To be honest, my city has the RCMP and there are notn enough highway enforcement. We could use more.. This city is full of tailgaters, speeders and overall rudeness. My bro was in the southern US few yrs ago and said it was peaceful driving compared to here.

My late dad was a former police officer. He served to retirement in the Marine Corps (Korea & part of Vietnam). After retiring from The Corps, he attended the police academy where he served as a police officer, state trooper, & worked his way up the chain to detective. (retired again) Dad used to say that traffic stops were the deadliest positions in police service. This video proves it all too well.

I started watching these police chase videos about three months ago. They have definitely given me a better appreciation for the work officers do, and the sudden dangers they face. Most of us, myself included, operated from the safety of our armchairs when judging police. I see now, there is no time for officers to weigh and evaluate everything. A split second delay can spell death. If you’re a police officer, thank you.

No the officer was fishing to write him up for something. I had an officer waste an hour of my life once for absolutely nothing. Asked the same questions over and over and over. Even searched my vehicle 3 times over. He justified the harassment with "Well 9 times out of 10 I'll find something the charge you with". They're usually an annoying personality type that even their co-workers hate being around and they will get laid off or "promoted" to a desk job somewhere where they don't have to deal with them. Not saying the officer in this video is that guy, but having someone come sit in your cruiser for a warning is deceptive and not a tactic that illicits trust with a community.

I was respectful to him and he was twice as respectful to me and he issued a warning.
This was clearly an amazing policeman who knows how to do his job in an upstanding way. This is exemplary behavior. This policeman should be training other officers. The perp had a suspended license & not only one firearm, which he pulled on the policeman, but a complete arsenal in his vehicle once they finally caught him.
A good policeman is always on his guard. A good policeman wants to help keep society safe. A good policeman takes every measure possible before shooting his firearm. This policeman exceeds every expectation. He deserves a medal🎖️for his service.

What was happening, the cop was preparing to arrest him "easy way", if there will be really reason to arrest him. That would then be clear and easily accomplished arrest. But if it were no reason to arrest, he probably will just give the guy warning and let him go.

Wow, you yelled at me as if I was approving what this guy did. I merely stated the fact that when the cop said get out of the car and get into rare sit of his police car, it constitutes the arrest. The guy could say "you can not arrest me without telling me what my crime is", state that he obeys policeman's orders under protest and later sue the locality policeman works for. If he is clean, of course. But disobeying orders of someone armed who works under flag of justice is stupid and one can get that way his life ruined to much higher degree than by false arrest.

I’m sorry, but I didn’t see anyone pulling over. When you hear sirens you should pull off the road and come to complete stop. At least that’s the way I learned to yield to emergency vehicles. Okay, I see just before the crash people were pulling over but at the start they weren’t. The officer had to drive on shoulder around 18 wheelers and vehicles. Glad everyone was safe.

Police are trained to cover lethal force first in a hostile situation, irregardless of their armament. With multiple officers presence, one can cover less than lethal while others cover lethal.

For strange reason, I like these types of videos.
I know a lot of cops can be assholes for no reason (especially the ones bullied and were bullies in HS). BUT i've also known several and been friends/acquaintances who are retired to on-duty.. And you'd never knew they were police officers if you met them off duty. The stuff they got to deal with has my respect, I know I could never do this job - too much stress. So much respect. They are not all bad guys, look at the shit they have to deal with sometimes.
As someone who live about 8 miles from where this happened.. when that officer told him if you stuff is in order , just going to give you a warning... That's exactly what he'd done, cops are pretty fair like that here.. and I think that idiot is still in a Oklahoma jail, hating life, I'm sure!

So a random dude on a Oklahoma highway gets a ticket and decides... not to pay like 50bucks.. Instead pulls agun on that officer.. Gets tased.. The taser pulls behind the car while he flees...that dude can be grateful.. The officer saved his life as being calm.. I really worried about the other drivers/family's on this highway.. I would say future highway police needs a way to stop cars.. Like overtake the steering and just slow the suspect car down and stop it safely on sideway.. Respect to these OODs... This just shows how 'routine' calls can go from normal to full on, fight for your life. That officer was clearly shaken when he climbed back into his vehicle to initiate the pursuit.
