Home making is under appreciated.
But that doesn't mean women should be subservient home makers. It means care workers should be seen as doing work, and treated with respect.
It means men should do some of that labour, too
You don't think traditional men serve women constantly? You don't think traditional men treat traditional women with respect? How could you not?
exactly! if you live in a house, you should care for it! if you're raising children, care for them! that's not a woman's job, it's just ~living in society~ or whatever lmao
@@TheClassicalSauce No. They don't. A partnership is 50/50, not 90/10 as many of these now former TRAD wives are finding out the hard way.
@@lyraserpentine894 Nothing you said is news to people in a traditional relationship. Of course a relationship is 50/50. You sound like you've never been in a healthy relationship and have probably never been with a traditional man.
@@TheClassicalSauce Because they don't get paid for it. And don't try to sell me on Itchy and Scratchy money in a capitalist landscape where the only thing that will get you ANYTHING is money. Women can't pay their fucking bills in their husband's love whether they're abandoned or the husband dies in a car accident.
Being a tradwife is a privilege in this economy. Principles aside, it's just no longer feasible for most couples to live comfortably with a single income.
... unless the wife is able to monetize her homemaker lifestyle through social media. Tradwife influencers make their money by telling other women that they should be homemakers too, but not get paid for it.
Great insight.
this won the day
It never was.
This is very true. The other dumb thing about trad wives is that for most people the idea of a male breadwinner and female homemaker is only from a short sliver of time starting in the industrial revolution until about the 1970's. Before the industrial revolution which one might recognize as all but about 150 of human history women who were not in extremely wealthy families which one might note is about 95 percent of all women were fully participating in either agricultural labor alongside their husband or acting as a servant to a wealthy family. So trad wives are only traditional to the late 19th to mid 20th centuries. Any of the thousands of years of before that time, both men and women worked to earn the bread they and their children ate. The idea that this is some sort of divinely inspired role is ridiculous. No one really thought this, and even when it started the reasoning was because industrial work had not yet automated much and required a good deal of physical strength to carry out. Therefore it was something mostly done due to necessity. For the most part that necessity has ended.
They shouldn't making videos. One, it is not housewife. Two, they should be seen and not heard, if they want to be what they consider "traditional." Can their husband apply the rule of thumb to them and them not call the cops?!? Are they committed to their chosen lesser value or just a pathetic act for money?
Of course she can’t escape from being a “traditional” wife, someone stole her shoes!
LOL I was asking myself about the barefoot thing
Excuse me, she's a married woman, covered legally by her husband. Those are _his_ shoes that she's not wearing.
I spent the first bit wondering if she was pregnant. It would have been better if she had been taking buns out of that ovent hough.
My mom married in 1978 because she wanted this life
And she had it - didn’t have to work and had me one year later
My father was very abusive, cheated on her, and used her as an emotional punching bag
She told me she can’t leave him because she’s bound to him financially
Now he’s 70 and they rely on his pension plan
He struts his stuff all over the beach and calls all his widowed neighbors his “girlfriends”
~~
I decided at a young age I did NOT want this for myself
Got myself educated, got my masters and learned a second language
Now I work for the government
When I’m in my 60s I’m planning to retire and live off my own pension plan
I’ll strut my stuff on the beach and get a boyfriend
lol I’m kidding about the last two points
But hey - why not??
Sounds lonely.
Do you think her mom is better off with an abusive husband, that she’s not lonely ? The daughter never said that she would be alone either, she would have a boyfriend, or dose only marriage count as a relationship?
You're awesome!
@@FarmerJim And you sound like you're an abusive husband
I actually have a husband LOL so I don’t know where this “loneliness” comes from
That’s why I was kidding about strutting my stuff and getting a boyfriend when I’m 60 LOL
My husband is just as educated as I am and (not that it matters) makes 3x income as I do
He wanted a woman who was educated and hardworking - and he found one 😉
And guess what? He works from home which means HE cooks dinner for me almost every night
👌
We do our own laundry and we take turns emptying the dishwasher
He also bought me a robot that cleans the floor 👍
This is easy. Surviving etiquette guides are nowhere near as unhinged ✋
Lmao i like how its "pilgrims" but the quotes are from the 1800s
Right? 1875 is considerably closer to now than to the pilgrims.
Aren’t pilgrims from the 1600s? Kind of a big gap!
I think the word they're looking for is 'puritan'.
Came here to say this.
Literally what I commented on their tiktok.
We're talking a good 200 year gap here??
"Come on, kids! Let's go play in the tepid cesspool under the bridge! Wheeeeee!"
Why do that when you can watch Marvel movies and porn!
Play in the tepid cesspool? But that's where they get all of their ideas!
My mom never let me play in the cesspool!
The last one had a dead giveaway: "A single woman unmarried" would be redundant even a few decades ago. "Single" did mean "unmarried" (never having been married) for the longest time. Nowadays, one can be unmarried without being single.
You can be unmarried but not single, but you can't be single but not unmarried, so it's _still_ redundant.
“OK, Pilgrim” is the new “OK, Boomer”.
LMFAO
Love it
Wasn't it Clint Eastwood's catchphrase. Maybe "OK Boomer" is the new "OK Pilgrim"!
@@AdrianColley You're thinking of John Wayne.
I never knew I needed Patton's impression of a tradwife 🤣 it's so "staring into the camera for social media"
I knew the last one was a trad wife, because it switched from singular to plural in the middle. "A single woman" and "their bodies." (But then the actual quote didn't do that. )
Actually, grammatically, using their here is okay. Singular they has been in use since the 14th century, and is still in common use today. It's generally used with an indeterminate antecedent, but not exclusively.
Yes, that would not have been acceptable in the days before radio. That's what gave it away to me.
@@littlefurnace It's not the singular they. They said "their *bodies".* So it's actually plural.
@@ZipplyZane ah, plural body so it must be plural they, you're right
It's also that "single woman unmarried" couldn't have been said during that time due to the social context. It was either married or not. "Single" is there to imply that the aforementioned unmarried woman isn't dating or in any kind of relationship
Big name panel, yet they knew the assignment. So funny!
I’m surprised they didn’t put Paton in the middle just for the visual lol

Terry sounded frightened.
I was too.
This has to be one of the sickest suit jackets I've seen her wear.
Idk why tradwives have to be so creepy and culty about it. I’m a homemaker, a stay at home parent, a mother who bakes bread for the house and makes cheese out of milk because I learned how to do that recently and am excited to do it but scared to eat it.
My husband gets to play king all day at work, he comes home and it’s my domain. It can be his domain and his show when he manages to remember where his shoes go. I do the work he can’t and won’t do, he does the work I don’t wanna do (and also kinda can’t). He financially supports 100% of my hobbies, I don’t eat the baby and make sure that at least some of my hobbies provide entertainment and help him decompress after work. Also, I have to handle bills and errands because he just won’t.
Basically, I’m privileged and lucky. Whatever keeps the house running is what works and for some people that’s being a SAHW/SAHP, for some people it’s both parties working. We don’t question the crew of a boat on why they do something, we just stay grateful it stays above water.
I’m glad you don’t eat the baby lol.
Can you also reassure me that you do not let the baby eat pills, or play with strange snakes, or light it on fire?
I know a very religious couple who insisted on this dynamic, but they were working class people so insisting on this dynamic meant that they lived in poverty and struggled to provide for their child. Also, if they insisted on being a single income household, the wife would have actually been the more qualified person to be the provider. The husband on the other hand had limited earning capacity and few domestic skills making him frankly redundant, though I'm sure he could have learned to make a casserole and shout out stains if he had a mind to do it and probably would have been happier.
For the last one, the grammatical error was the tradwife tipoff for me
Patton was too hung up on the word "stewardship" being too big of a word for a trad wife to zoom in on the redundancy.
My grandmother ditched her serially unemployed, abusive drunk of a husband and worked 3 jobs to bring-up 4 kids, and I'm very grateful that she did. One became an office manager at a law firm and married a man with two degrees from Harvard. One was a lineman for Mountain Bell, then had an IT job with the Montana Highway Patrol. Another joined the Air Force and became a mainframe computer wizard, later working on software for interbank fund transfers, then transportation logistics. The last became a homemaker, and there's nothing wrong with that because it was her choice.
Men insist that being a homemaker is fulfilling, but often don't want to take up homemaking even when their wife is succeeding in her career. If you would like to argue that this work is fulfilling and honorable, you should not hesitate to step up and do the work.
Patten got tricked!!! 😂
Yeah, I thought when he did the voice, he'd get it.
I mean, the boring answers are:
1. Pilgrims wouldn't suggest that they have castles.
2. Tradwives (at least as far as I'm aware) don't need to be quiet and uninteresting to their husbands, they just need to put them first (as gross as that all is).
3. A single unmarried woman would have been a lot less acceptable in general in the 1800s.
For number 1, I can easily see that quote originating from the 1950s. For number 3, single unmarried women were employed as teachers in the 1800s after the civil war.
Point #2 feels like more of a case-by-case basis sort of thing. Some men definitely want to be the interesting one in the relationship while their wife is just an accessory/status symbol.
lol, he’s looking off camera like she’s there with a gun
Patton sounds like Trump when he quotes tradwife.
Honestly this idea is hilarious
This video is trying to give me, a working single mom (unmarried), a stroke. The idea that women would spread a bs message that they don't believe in just to get views and be known on social media for a minute is multilevel sad.
Cope and pretend more. You're not fooling anyone. We all know you are miserable and regret your mistakes.
No literally! Centuries of feminism fighting against oppressive forces and they're trying to unravel it.
The first one is sound advice, assuming that you don't both work. The rest of it is pure nonsense though.
@@SmallSpoonBrigade
I would phrase it as Utterly Pathetic…
Multilevel sad goes straight into the vocabulary!
The Pilgrims were from the 1600s, not the 1800s.
Thank you! Funny concept, but the whole time I was sitting here going, "That's not a Pilgrim. . . ?"
@@bethanybrengan9795 Yeah, they could have easily gone with "Tradwife or 1800s?"

So these tradewives on the internet aren't making money? As long as they are making more money than their husbands?
Whoop there it is haha
It's a job. Some of them are fully committed and use set kitchens to show themselves wife-ing. You can tell because they look like magazine kitchens and have bouquets of fresh flowers and decorative bowls of lemons but not a toaster or dish towel in sight. You'll see them wearing aprons and mixing a bowl that has nothing but flour in it, but no other ingredients or measuring cups on the counter.
She's barefoot in the kitchen... 😂😂😂😂
For that revenew
They got renewed for season 2 and got a higher list of famous people on the show. 😂
I hope they don’t do it for every episode, though. I like discovering people I haven’t seen before.
Colbert is pulling out the star power to get this albatross to fly.
Stacked cast, damn
lmao Patton Oswald always brings it! And Terry Crews, as ever, is a delightful and charming (and funny!!) human being! :D The other guy I saw on Colbert talking about D&D so A+! (plus love how intensely he was considering Patton's quote 😂)
Terry is a champion!!
I desperately wish this was a full on show

Eeesh. “Trad Wives” are hilarious, but also clearly believe and live out the nonsense they’re spouting. That’s actually terrifying.
I'm not sure most of them actually live it out everyday. I think they just perform it for money and/or attention. Once the camera is off, they probably live pretty normal lives.
This reminded me of the Canadian tradwife influencer a while back. They preach about taking care of the house when they're influencers as someone rightfully said so. Like how come you have a job and you want me to let go of mine? They're the modern con artists of our times and it's not talked about enough. They're so Hypocritical
I honestly can't decide if it is real or not. I know my family growing up tried to get me to be like this. So maybe?
Tradwife influencers make money on social media trying to convince other women to quit their jobs and stop making money.
One person staying home seems ok but if they need all these weird propaganda pep talks something else is up
These women could just be "traditional wives". I'm sure many are. What makes this strange is that they're advertising this as an alternative lifestyle and one that's an inherent contradiction to women having a career. This is bizarre -- for many reasons. (I'd explain, but I'm sure no one cares.)
It's the condescension and classism, isn't it
The key difference between a traditional wife and a “tradwife” is that a traditional wife doesn’t force her lifestyle onto others meanwhile a tradwife views it as the only correct way to live.
@@CuteLilEldritch1010 Another distinction is that a traditional wife actually lives the life she's living, while a tradwife is cosplaying the life aesthetic she's trying to sell online. Make no mistake: a tradwife is a hypocrite because some of them will be acting like you should only serve your husband and have no financial back up plan at all, while they themselves are working on their financial back up plan. They're conning people into thinking what they're selling is the best thing ever, while not concerning themselves with the drawbacks because they make sure they will never suffer those drawbacks.
Wouldn’t it be funny if the woman in the opening vid was married to a woman and they adopted all their kids.
The woman in that first video baking bread is probably Harrison Butker's wife!
Nah, his wife is actually a blow up doll he got a garage sale.
I think his speech was actually a plea for her to not leave him now that he won't be playing as much and won't be getting anymore big contracts once this one ends. The NFL changed things for how kickers play and since little boy butker isn't good at tackling, their backup kicker, who plays safety and is good at tackling is going to be taking his field time.
1:24 I really hope Terrys wife is watching this, because man’s about to man up!
As always, you gotta love Terry Crews...
Not really, he agreed with the tradwife, but gender reversed. Thats just as sexist.
Terry is awesome
Well well, an actual Good Man Button push!
It really shows that Taylor is deeply unfamiliar with the dark world of modern fundamentalism if the animal print surprises her XD
Complementarianism goes with cheetah and zebra prints like Jesus goes with the cross. According to certain Fundies, anyway.
Onion powder and corn dust go together according to certain Funyuns.
This is my new favourite game show and use of this otherwise horrifying trend
"What did you do today, dear?"
"Oh, I took the kids to play in the polution water under the overpass. They wouldn't touch it due to the oily film floating on top but, I walked right in. It peeled the skin off of my feet and ankles and now they glow in the dark. How was your day?"
"Fine. I think I'm putting it together now. It's no so much that you want to stay home as it is you're completely unemployable, isn't it?
One more question. Do you own shoes? You're literally barefoot in the kitchen and, you're sweeping together an impressive pile of nothing."

These "tradwives" are all fakes who are "bread winners" from content creation, their agenda is to brainwash others with a dumb right wing, patriarchal, puritan (and usually dominionist) ideology
My tradwife tipoff on the last one was the idea that a woman has a duty to be attractive for the benefit of men. They might have brought up cleanliness/tidiness as stand-ins for attractiveness, but maintaining your _body‽_ At that time, no one who wasn't already your husband should've had more than a vague idea of what your body looked like, and a man speculating publicly on what a woman looked like _under_ her clothes would've been regarded as a pervert.
What did Joe say that got his answer cut?
Funny as hell, but hit kind of different when I realized Patton lost his wife a few years back and Joe just got divorced…

Arguably, they expand that role even further.

I mean, if it's a printed book from 1875 it's not pilgrims.
Imagine not wanting to have to deal with men (and kids) just to eat and have a roof over your head
You got something against children and men? Kinda weird and sexist, but ok.
Pilgrims lived in the 1600s. In the 1840s, that’s probably a regular 19th century American.
The word “stewardship” is thrown around a lot in Christian communities. You would know that if you went to church.
She should really blur her feet tbh
Pilgrims were in the 1600s, ya dolts.
Yeah, but there is no special word for repressed, old cultures from the 1800s, so they used an oft used term to denote an “old” way of thinking. But, I am glad the pedantic army is strong.
Why is it ok for women to be queens but men can't be kings? I don't want to be a queen,I just want to be treated like an intelligent human being.

WTF is an "1800s pilgrim"?! The Pilgrims only existed during the first quarter of the 1600s.
I suspect that the word you're looking for is "Puritan". But even they no longer existed after about 1750.
Both democrats and republicans try to force women to live a certain way. It's nobody's business what lifestyle you choose.
I always wondered why I never heard anything about Taylor's new show. Now I know why. So disappointing.
These men are so terrified of being “cancelled”
Strange topic to have Patton Oswald answering questions about, given his history. Odd choice 🤷♂️
A woman having responsibilities towards their bodies and not their fathers and mothers being called to rein them in for their own good otherwise be accused of failing her education should have been the clue, Patton. Come on ! xD
Just because they are ‘tradwives’ doesn’t necessarily mean everything that they say is wrong. If you put it in other words I bet and coming from someone they respected, they would agree with a lot of wahat tradwives share, like they most likely would agree with The Rock if he says ‘it’s your responsibility to take good care of your body’, which is essentially the last message
Joking aside, please do not entertain your kids with phones 😅
I've never thought little of Terry Crews until today. What a simp
so what you want to do, dont judge others, didnt god say something like that?
It's just a choice, neither right or wrong. Shouldn't be looked down on or even necessarily heralded. All it has to be is respected.
if you say so Josef.
It’s not only their choice, though. They’re promoting the lifestyle, hence all the “should” in their videos.
No it shouldn't be respected. It's got pretty overt ties to white supremacy and, you know, the whole thing where America is being taken over by theocratic fascists.
If they said "I do this because I enjoy it" and not "others should do this because...."
Technically they shot first and others are just firing back. They need to not say that others need to do as they are. They need to learn to have enough faith, joy, and love for their own choices that they don't feel compelled to want others to join them so they don't feel like they made a mistake themselves. If they were truly happy they wouldn't denigrate others' choices. They are unhappy and misery loves company so they put down others who are doing other things with their lives.
has the internet broke me or is anyone else having the ick from Terry Cruize cause whenever someone is this super vocal about his wife , it ends up with cheating headlines....
He cheated on her before and she left him. Obviously they got back together
Every time you misspell his last name, an act of infidelity happens. Just remember that. This is how you broke the internet.
He just seemed scared to make her feel lesser on a stage, to me. Playing it up for laughs, but that was the concern.
IIRC, he has a severely abusive past, and she is the main reason why he wanted to, and did, get better.
So he seems especially sincere to me, maybe frenetic with sincerity. Also, he is *always* a big energy on screen, when I see him emote! Always brings a smile to my face, he's so cute!!
