    Interesting on the palm router. I recently purchased one from Harbor Freight, on sale for around $80, was thinking I should have waited to get the Alloyman until I completed watching your review. So far I'm happy with the Harbor Freight, only 1//4 inch though. I gave an old Craftsman router to the Habitat for Humanity store here in town so I could justify buying the new palm router. Have a large Porter-Cable that is both 1/2 and 1/4, but a pain to unpack for a few minutes of edging over. Like your reviews, keep up the good work, although you are costing me money since I'm buying tools I'm not sure I really need, but like your review and enthusiasm for the tool.

      Oh, interesting to hear about the HF router. I want to do a review on some of those tools in the near future for sure. Another router that I love that I have in my router table is the bosch router. That is my main go to router other than my dewalt but both do an excellent job. Just depends on whether or not I want to take my workpeice to the router or my router to my workpeice. Thanks so much for watching and commenting Pat!

    On your recommendation I bought the polisher/sander. I’m building up my shop piece by piece, I was a carpenter many yrs. ago. But I took a a different path and now trying to go back to my roots of woodworking. I have a question for you. I have researched it but all I find is very vague on this matter. I know the sanding part of it start with something like 180 or 220 depending on the project and that can pass 1800 wet sanding. But what I want to know is what brand of compound and and at what stages do I use them at ? If you could reply whit an answer that would be great thank you in advance for cooperation.

    • @FlynndoggWoodwork
      @FlynndoggWoodwork  Před 5 měsíci

      These are great questions and I wish I had a great answer for you. I have done a couple of tables and many cutting boards using epoxy resin, however, I have never gone for that really high gloss on any of them. I did do one table that has high gloss and it is sitting in my kitchen right now. I went the easy rout and chose to go with a table top epoxy which looks like glass once it cures. I'm hoping some other viewers might see this comment and spread some knowledge for us. I would like some input as well! Thanks for the question!

    There are so many similar tools out there, you’ll have plenty to do comparing them. It would be interesting to know how some of the really good first impression tools hold up and compare to their more expensive counterparts.
    Curious if the buy once cry once is applicable. For example- are the (what the) F(festool) tools which are so much more expensive, compared to the higher grade (brushless motors, higher amp - if corded, tools. Are the WTF tools that much better, that much more accurate, that much longer lasting?
    Same thing with the WTF red tools that cost 2x most of their competitors?
    Good job with the subject, again. Thanks.

    • @FlynndoggWoodwork
      @FlynndoggWoodwork  Před 5 měsíci

      I totally agree. I would tend to think that the buy once cry once theory is a good one. Sometimes when you buy the cheaper models, you realize it doesn't have all the accuracy you thought you needed, and then you end up buying a nicer tool anway, so sometimes i gues you could spend even more than if you would have just bought the more expensive one in the first place. For me, I went ryobi crazy when I first started out and then began upgrading about 3 years later. I think that was a good decision for me because I made sure I liked woodworking before spending too much money. Bonus - I still use my ryobi tools for many applications so it is a win win!

    Not only are gloves not necessary but are often dangerous. They can get caught in sharp spinny things and grab onto the hand, perhaps drawing the hand into the blade, or not allowing it the hand to be pulled back. Kevlar gloves are great for carvers but gloves are a no-no in a shop.

    • @FlynndoggWoodwork
      @FlynndoggWoodwork  Před 5 měsíci

      I 100% agree with you kwilliams. Just think if one of the fibers got caught on the blade of a table saw, miter saw, or the bit on the router. You would end up with chopped liver for fingers.

      I worked ship yard as a machinist. A coworker didn’t like the hot chips hitting his hands so he put on some simple cotton gloves. They were loose fitting. I told him that’s dangerous. Not 2 min after his hand was pulled in backward. He broke a few bones not to mention a few stitches.

    I am interested in that Orbital Sander, my biggest concern with less expensive brands is how long will they last. Sure they may start out strong, but will they last? I call this the Harbor Freight formula, how long will the product last, vs how many times will I need it, then figure in cost. Anyway thanks for another fun Saturday morning coffee video.

      That's a great question Pat, I will need to check that when I get back from vacation. I'm out of the country until next week. And I totally agree with you on the cost vs. the need. I always call these one time tools. I buy then because i need a specific project done and then if I can get a second or third use out of them its all gravy! I will say that the alloyman tools feel about the same quality as ryobi so I suspect hey will last a while. Kind of like the bauer at Harbor freight.

    I quite like the inclusion of safety glasses. Regular DIYers, workshop enthusiasts, and pros will have PPE already, but cheaper tools or sets with accessories attract more occasional home users. For the minimal cost to the supplier it's nice to see eye protection provided, making it much more likely to be used.
