Carbon dioxide no longer prevents food going off btw - just slows it down. CO2-covered refrigerator will prolong food longer than just a fridge or just CO2, but there's other methods for preserving food eternally now in Spaced Out.
Thanks for the info! 👍
Deep freeze. Best way to keep all food fresh.
Bit early in the game, still, but eventually. Deep freeze is definately the way to go, and later on, the spice can make most foods go back to being 100% fresh (unless Klei caught on and patched that 😊)
@@salemprompthous3820 did not know about the spice trick. Tks!
Minor optimization: Have the dupes enter the washroom directly and go through the nature reserve to leave -- that way they're that much less likely to have an oopsie. Also, they only need to go through one tile of the nature reserve to get the bonus, so your first ladder would've worked fine :)
Keep going with the ONI videos Biffa. It's my favourite game ever. Love watching you re-discover all the mechanics and weirdness.
Glad you enjoy it! Continuing every week, having a blast :-)
don't forget that the dupes give you 500g of polluted water for free each day. So you can make a closed loop in the bathrooms and overflow the extra into a couple thimble reeds for basically free reed fiber.
Good tip thankyou ☺️
500g? Thought the lavs gave more than that. Might have missed some patches, as I've been busy with other games. 5kg water used, 11.7kg polluted water out, last I played.
The current setup; I was hoping noone said anything, we'd see a "badwater" situation eventually.
All the germs being poured into the water, don't have dupes go swimming. They'll get the germs on them, then on the food as they eat, and an outbreak of food poisoning as they cough or barf.
Closed loop is definately a lot more efficient, as the food poisoning germs don't transfer through plant growth. Could also burn the excess water through an oxygen diffuser, giving a bit extra power with some hydrogen. Alleviate the algae and coal usage, as both will be valuable later
@@salemprompthous3820 I might have been mistaken. Point still stands though.
@@anamelikemine it sure does, I just thought it might have been changed since I last played. Which, according to steam, was early summer last year 😊
@33:30 you can just plop a door at the top of the ladder in this situation to close it into a room. btw set all your mesh doors (except in the stables) to 'open' so they don't need to pause to open doors
30:32 Jeremiah is going in! Biffa I was having my lunch 🤣
Ever since I learned some methods to build the lav system and coal power plant I got stuck building samey bases, this is encouraging me to go back and mess around again!
I also got stuck with the same bases for a while, but then I tried something unusual - I relied heavily on gas masks, and only had atmo suits for a small handful of cases (specifically dealing with the temperature of the oil biome or changing buildings in a steam turbine room).
It leads to some.. interesting discoveries. Namely, you can make a duplicant put on a loose gas mask by just assigning it to them, but you can't make them put on an atmo suit without a checkpoint. So you can fill some gas masks, undock them, then move them to key places as an emergency oxygen supply like in bedrooms or rocket capsules. And you can do it *really* early on in progression.
You can stick masks almost anywhere because you only need to supply oxygen, slimelung becomes irrelevant while duplicant heat tolerance and stress become bigger factors, including showers for clearing wet debuffs, so stress reduction becomes a priority.
It lasts a bit less than a day, but you can get some really weird results with it - I had a miner with both divers lungs and deep divers lungs that could last 5 days in a gas mask - he got "promoted" to planet explorer.
Oh for crying out loud. I picked up ONI a few weeks ago and decided to start a new game yesterday after having watched the first episode of this series. I didn't get too far before so I'm not terribly familiar with the research tree. I spent like 5-10 minutes looking through the transport, tile, and water categories of the research tree for a tile that would let water flow through it like the vent does for air to no avail. Either I'm blind or the mesh tile doesn't appear in any of the categories I looked through. Well, at least I saw that it's a thing in this episode, I guess? Now I know for later.
You're welcome 😊
When new to ONI, I'd recommend using the search function vigorously. Not everything is placed in an obvious or logical position in the tree (most is, but still).
Thanks Biffa - I like the current mix of game videos!
Second episode and we have a great nice little colony
Thanks :-)
8:43 yes let's ignore that guy being sick af😅
cracked me up seeing that with Biffa telling the dupes to "enjoy enjoy" xD
:-)
Good afternoon Biffa, hope the tea is flowing nicely today.
It is, many thanks! :-)
always loved Oxygen not included videos Biffa! thanks for still playing it. Have a great day! would love to see like a tutorial of most important things to keep in mind or must do for starting your new colony or for first time playing ( as i have played but I'm not that good at this game)
Thanks, glad you're enjoying it. FYI I won't be doing any tutorials on the stuff in the game now, other than what you see me do in this series, but in the future when new stuff appears I will be :-)
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines totally understandable, you are a busy person even more than most of us, so no worries there, just gonna enjoy great commentary and videos as they come out. also, its great to see you interacting with community always love that when people making videos dedicate a few seconds to reply to a good comments. Cheers!
👍😁

If it is good tutorials you are looking for, I’d recommend EchoRidgeGaming. 🙂
Ive been playing for only a few weeks now and I feel like I’ve gained some momentum from the tutorials made by EchoRidgeGaming. He’s very thorough in his videos, and also does some “fix your colony” sort of like the counterpart to Biffa’s traffic fixes.
Hope this helps! 😊
@@DannyByWest ohhhh thats great, will keep that in mind for a future. Thanks mate, I could always search up tutorials on youtube, BUT I love to hear which are actually worth watching. Cheers
The best thing I Made was using hatchling for coal and never upgrade sources. Also used the lice meal stuff. And it was all sourced by poo being turned into compost. So everyone was eating their own poo in a way.
You might want to check your "fresh" water for germs now that you have put your bathroom water in it.
Oh darn...
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines chorine in a closed room with 4-6 buffer tanks and a liquid germ sensor will do the trick. Good luck!
👍
@@aaronward5612 Plastic is required for a liquid germ sensor, not viable in early game.
@@wolfen210959 there are dreccos, easy early game plastic with simple glossy farm
Really enjoying this series!
Thankyou 😁
So happy to see this upload!! Thank you Biffa!!
Glad you enjoyed it! 😁
You do not need automation on the oxygen producers, they automatically switch off when maximum oxygen pressure is achieved, it's just a waste of resources Biffa. I might have mentioned this before, but I'm not used to seeing Biffa make so many rookie mistakes, such as blossom seed planting which uses lots of water, but you have little water, and have not secured a source for more, 2 toilets but only one sink means only one person can wash off germs, the other will just run past covered in germs.
Really enjoying this series 😊
Yay, thank you! 😁
Good stuff!
Thankyou ☺️
A brave more to have so many duplicants so early in the game considering you havent played it for years. Placing numerous heating sources next to farm is going to bite you sooner than you think.
👍😁
Thank you, more please
Back every Tuesday :-)
I was hoping for a manor lords vid 😂 that game looks epic
Back soon, keeping things mixed up a bit :-)
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines i like you and city planner ways of playing phil is very serious like sticking to building codes and the story and you....... talking to jacob the cow, chatting with the trader and failing at those crops 🤣, i did see in another video its better to have smaller farms and then have bulls to do the ploughing cos people wont help plough while a bull is ploughing a big field but if you have smaller fields the bull will do his thing while families will go to the next field its a timing thing also you should always have a minimum of 3 empty house for people to move into
I certainly hope Password’s password is “Username”!!!
🤣
By the way... your dupes can exit the loo through the door to the left without washing their hands.
The door is set as one way 👍😁
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines So it is... Didn't see you set that on the left side door first time I watched. I blame the dog 😅
Fun!
Nice Video!
Thanks!
A new video, yay
Enjoy :-)
Hi, new ONI player here. Why the measurement of 13 all the time? Could someone please explain?
Just a personal preference to build at that size. It's a sandbox so feel free to go 14 or even, dare I say...15! :-)
Personally I build my rooms big. You can see the maximum size a room can be on the room overlay. This is too maximize efficiency and space. But it's not a hard a fast rule you will just end up using more space because your rooms are too small.
16 long and 4 high gives you 64 tile room, the most common large size room. But as long as most rooms are bigger than 12 tiles(3x4) you can make it into most rooms.
🎉
Enjoy :-)
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines will do!! cheers
How about Factorio Biffa?
Maybe in the future :-)
