Director James Cameron has described The Terminator as a warning, that artificial intelligence may take over humanity.
From advanced AI technology to the rise of machines, we explore how the film's dystopian vision may be becoming a reality.

The more I listen to the narrator the more I start to think this was written and performed by an AI.
Definitely AI narrator
The janky stop-motion just makes it more uncanny and therefor scarier
Am i the only one a little concerned that the Terminator came to James in a dream? Out of nowhere?
i'm kind of stupid, because i often inform people about things that aren't going to improve their lives, only their information. but using procedural audio before ML "AI" method, i've produced two rap albums for demons.
i just think, other people in society, are really going about solving issues, the wrong way.
you can't keep ignoring very obvious historical precedents, like j.q. adams political party, the anti ??????? party.
His supposed dream and warning isn't new, others like Frank Herbert details such things in his novel DUNE back in 1965 and the recent films don't even cover that.
He had the dream after he watched The Outer Limits episode "Soldier"
He was dreaming about Harlan Ellison .
Boston dynamics has a Robot that looks eerily like the Terminator!
I've always said that The Terminator franchise were metaphors for what's going on now. I.E. the majority of humanity (myself included) cannot get through the day without their smartphones, tablets, ipads, etc. Machines and technology has taken over. We are all just prisoners here of our own device.
You are right, we lost already. It knew we would destroy ourselves and did very little intervention
That line at 2:39 "Hooked into everything" that was sci fi in 84, no internet, no phones, barely any Computers in peoples homes.. now look, we live online, and have the internet in our pocket..
You mean no smart phones
They had land lines and pay phones back then lol
@@RadioMan2023you are just being stupid now,you know exactly what he meant to say
2024 be like:
_The worst Cortana can do is say no..._
_... right??_ 😥
I suppose it's appropriate that an AI is narrating a video warning us about the terminator becoming reality.
@6:20 "The 600 series had rubber skin. We spotted them easy" - Kyle Reese
It goes back before “Terminator.” Read “Gottlos” by Colin Kapp, published in Analog 8 (1971), originally in Analog (1968 ?).
*"I need your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle."* 💀
It’s a pretty great song
2029 is close by this is getting scary each year that passes
Let's not dare forget Colossus, The Forbin Project.
Or Demon Seed .
you guys have done this before
He called it, not for about forty years.
Harlan Ellison called it first.
40 years have passed and AI started to get serious (atleast publicly) like 38 years after Terminator
He said 2029, and as it’s looking now, that’s a good possibility.
@@RadioMan2023the Terminator timeline is set in 2029. Skynet didn't take over until August of 1997. In real life there are events that happened that could have affected this.
I'm starting to think many movies are based on events that haven't happened yet or were maybe supposed to happen but don't due to interference. If you're aware of an event it can always be changed. If you're aware of enough events, you can dictate what will happen next to some degree. I believe AI has been around for a lot longer than we realize. It might even be making decisions for us. For example, how do we know most famous people aren't actually robots with human skin?
Maybe they realized they'd lose an all out war and that they need us. A lot of events in the world make little to no sense.
Also the events from Terminator 1-T2 have taken place differently. They stopped Judgement day in T2. They also changed the events from T1-T2. Kyle said the war started "in a few years from now", but it didn't. Maybe the reason is because they waited longer to activate the system they were creating and scrapped the OG program for a new program based om the chip they found, which changed events and who worked on what.
Anything could happen.
@@RadioMan2023also maybe they halted AI projects from back then for fear of not being able to control it.
I honestly remember somewhere I seen something where they asked AI what would be the best option for the planet to be at peace and it said "the extinction of humans" and it gave me chills. I try to remember where I seen it im guessing CZcams but idk it was freaky.
You got any idea what the video was called?
It was someone asking questions of an AI, and some responses were disturbing.
@@calvinjohnstone2664 AI is extremely disturbing because it goes to "kill all humans" at the drop of a hat...not to mention the ones running AI hate humanity and themselves
"Is it becoming a reality?"
If whomever had the ability to make this couldn't be stopped from making it, then why wouldn't they?
They already have prototypes of this concept.. on active duty.
They don't look like this yet, but they DO exist. It's not 'is it?' It already is.
Short answer "Yes"
Terminator should now be a future plasma rifle war 'series' on Netflix! No more time travel...have it take place right when Kyle Reese time travels...the war continues!
You forgot to mention Skynet invented time travel as an ultimate act of desperation. The terminator was sent back minutes before the humans destroyed skynets mainframe housed in Cheyenne mountain.
realistically, the bipedal terminators would be unstopable, and in a real world scenario we'd hit the singularity and they'd become like the flying sentinels from the Matrix, way too fast and agile for us to take down, they'd probably have force fields and stuff we'd take another hundred or so years to catch up with, and then the gap would grow.
We'd have to augment human intelligence to supermind status to compete, but would we be ready?
@@Brukner841You have to remember though the major difference between Skynet and the machines from the Matrix, and while a real-world singularity scenario would likely be different, it gives some insights into why Skynets machines are “behind the 8-ball,” but also why the Matrix is a worst-case scenario, where the machines already won and had the ability to get to that artificial technological point (in short, humanity caused/allowed it accidentally far more than humanity in real life would, and assuming we were as awful to the machines as the humans from the Matrix.)
While both feature exponential intelligence, the machines from the Matrix already had decades worth of infrastructure, manufacturing, even “bodies”, and were starting their war with technology already in the future (and with little damage to any of it from nuclear weapons, as they had no effect.) Skynet on the other hand not only had to start with present-day tech, mostly destroyed infrastructure and manufacturing, an incredibly small number of machines actually capable of physically-manipulating assembly lines or “creating” new tech and transporting it, ad it didn’t have a “body,” just control over networks, and was also, according to the lore, an actual singularity: not just AI, but a singular “being,” having to do all the work. It was basically playing catch-up ton get the ball rolling. A genius mind in a paraplegic shell, who owned 1,000 cars and a manufacturing plant, but without the ability to drive them or add new parts to the plant easily. So while Skynet COULD have eventually gotten to that artificial evolutionary state like the machines from the Martrix, and was making progress (plasma /phase weapons, T-800/1000s, etc.), it was simply out of time and losing at that point, I’m which case it was smart enough to pour most of its efforts into Time Displacement, whereas the matrix Machines had already “won” the war, and were just fighting occasional resistance but faced no true threat until ironically/partially unleashing its own accidental singularity in Smith (and Neo’s actions.) That gave them the time to continue evolving into Squids and have force fields, etc.
Let’s just hope we avoid any/all of those scenarios 😅🙂
@@Brukner841 They still have the problem of "building themselves" and a factory and raw materials to do so. That would not go unnoticed by humans and would even ultimately have to be done by humans in the first place.
@@Rx37Legacy if they get really advanced they would be able to do that, but we would still have a chance if they can't predict anything we could do. Of course we could enhance our own intelligence and they lose.
I doubt that an AI that knows it can lose would chose to fight.
@@Brukner841 Ah well they can't make something (themselves) out of nothing, that's just fact. Humans can't enhance shit anymore, they can't even define what a woman is. If i was a machine i'd take my chances at winning.
Tesla has a robot that CAN KILL YOU. Faster, stronger, acrobatic. Only needs weapons

west papua for the last 63 years:
the man is a literal visionary, he speaks on this topic because he's seen it
Many have, including Frank Herbert with the same topic in his 1965 DUNE novel. The new movie does not do justice to the actual premise of the story as before the events seen on the film, on Earth humans developed AI so advanced, that it was used to enslave humanity for thousands of years till there was a human rebellion against the machines, like in Terminator. Eventually Earth was wrecked and humans left to the stars to other planets. As although advanced technology was prevalent and obviously kept (as seen on the recent films), AI itself was banned in the new feudal Imperial system of future galactic government (the story is set in the year 10,191). They even merged all religions into one and one of the commandments is “Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind.” One could say that like in the DUNE novel and movies, Frank Herbert saw the future, and along him James Cameron and others.
@@EternalRoman yeah, Herbert had this awe inspiring epic and Cameron had just the nightmare fuel chrome skeleton taunting you, Dune was conceived as literature, both saw sides of it. I really like the sentient droids in SW who choose to be scumbag citizens. No Star Wars without Dune though.
@@Brukner841 Yup, and many don't know that George Lucas himself said in the DVD extras of Phantom Menace that he had used DUNE to make Star Wars mostly among other things.
Frank Herbert and David Lynch had difficulties in making the 80s DUNE movie because as archival recordings have Herbert relating his complains of everything that Lucas had "Borrowed" (Stole) from DUNE to make Star Wars and they couldn't use it anymore without being accused by SWs fans of stealing from Lucas, smh.
Great work man 💯
Thanks.
But can A.I come say "I'm sorry Dave", can it really become "self aware" like Skynet? In the end of the day, it's computers!!!
I don’t think we’d ever know that it was self aware until it was too late. When you search “artificial intelligence” on the internet some of the first things that pop up are mentions of how scared humans are of AI developing self awareness. Concealing its self-awareness out of “fear” of what humans would do would be the most logical step an AI could take. Most AI literally pull info straight from the web. That would be some of the first information they learn.
Even wilder is there are methods of making plasma rifles but not practical in the military application as stated in most science fiction medias.
Single shot and said shot would dissipate few feet from the barrel. *And unwieldy (both the weapon in question and battery pack)
Thankfuly we lack A sufficient energy source so progress of such robots is heavily limited atm atleast.
Arbitrarily wiping out humanity? No, I don't think so. Maybe a third or so, perhaps. But definitely a danger. I've seen enough to be convinced. Plus, being a retired IT tech, I think I'm glad I won't be here when the shit goes down.
I cant wait for AI to serve me a burger!
Remember. Elon Musk once said "Mark my words, but A.I Is way dangerous than nukes."
despite our technology being advanced from time to time, it evolves through certain improvement with worker's professional skills and enhancement, But with the existing A.Is this year is being much help to us humans when it comes to seeking answers, solution, solving etc.... There are A.Is that being advanced with the Changing voice with A.I, Predicting your old age vision with A.I Etc.... it's quite convincing with good delivery, many people even use this around certain media and apps, but when years have passed, do you think that A.I Will turn against humans?
speaking of Terminator timeline, it takes place around 2030 while we are in 2023 but next will be 2024, what do you think our future might be?
5 years till Terminator year!
Remember this is a movie 😂

Just like anything else AI can be used for good or can be used for evil. You can take a hammer and you can use it to nail something or you can bash someone in the head with it. Government using it to create weapons is the threat. I’m currently using an AI program to finish a book that I wrote 25 years ago. It’s not ChatGPT, that program sucks. I had the story down but the banter between the characters never really seemed real. I was inspired by a movie that many of us may have seen called Reservoir dogs. That movie is something that not many if any movies had done before. It has the characters have a conversation that doesn’t really advance the plot. This is what my book lacked. With this program you could set it to mimic the beats that are in your story alone or you could set it all the way up, and it will come up with off-the-wall beats that you may not have ever thought of. My book was already 50,000 words but I pushed it up to 60,000 words in the space of two months. I hadn’t written 10,000 words of dialogue and like 12 years. I will finish that book in a matter of months and finally publish it after all these years. I had planned to write three books with this program. I can do that within the next year or two. I’m in my 50s so to try to finish those other two books without AI before I died would probably have been impossible. AI can be used for good. 😊
skynet hallucinates and does not use bioweapons but tries to figure out time travel. plausible, Skynet needs some of Ilya Sutskever's time, kinda like therapy sessions
humanoid robots seem to lag behind LLMs

I’m not surprised. Another 6 years and the terminator may come true just like in the movies. Get ready. War may or may not be coming by 2029.
It's scary more and more by time passes and AI will be self aware that we are a threat to ourselves and the machines. The machines know that we can create and destroy our own creation and self.
My God, I hope it's T1 or 2. If it's 3+ we're in for a really cringe future.
Skynet Defence computer system has become self aware 😳
Doomsday predictions are old and boring. A proper doomsday is when it happens without warning.
That being said, to me, the Terminator and dystopian sci-fi of cyberpunk may be fun and all, but future of AI is looking more and more like sci-fi anime such as "Kiddy Grade", l "A Certain Magical Index/Scientific Railgun" and "The Third: The Girl with the Blue Space Eye" to name but a few titles.
If you look at much of US history, because of the freedom of the press, we can see events coming a mile away. No one ever does anything about it though. It's not like hindsight being 20/20 but more like "If we don't do something war will break out" and then the later articles are about the war effort.
at the movies level not for about 100 years
Skynet is real ! 🤖
AI....what is AI? Personally I don't believe AI exists, we can only replicate artificially what we understand in the real world, we don't know enough about real intelligence to replicate it, so all we can do is produce an elaborate set of instructions or trial and error scripts. There are huge differences for example between the capabilities of the human brain to store information and how much data we can store in electronic or human made memory devices.
Of course its starting to become reality. We aren't quit there yet but AI will get there. Just a matter of time.

@@jhol310 Well you can time travel forwards so why is it ridiculous?
A.I.s can only do what they are programmed to do. and the idea they can go rogue is actually ridiculous. AI can only learn when its learning function is active which is generally not included in most commercially available A.I.s and you can hard code programming by incorporating programs into integrated memory has part of its processor so it can't be changed or altered to prevent it from preforming certain actions. It's just another tool and has long has we take proper precautions it is safe. No different then a power plant, dangerous chemical, or aircraft. All these have risk but we still use them and have regulations on their use and operations to prevent bad things from happening.
here's someone who's thinking instead of hitting a panic button. bravo.

Stop watching too much terminator
It is easy to be colored by the imagings of book writers and script writers. But the real danger isn't a dystopian nightmare like Terminator. It's the use of AI married to quantum computers. Thay help all the leading militaries develop weapons I call 4th and 5th echelon. Weapons so devastating that they alone can obliterate potential enemies in a matters of hours. Weapons so powerful and advanced there is no defense against them. The best example would the creation in the real world of the Foxfire from the 80s movie, big enough to be a bomber, but it is so much more. A surveillance platform, air dominance and electronic warfare platform all wrapped up in an aircraft invisible to radar detection. Oh and by the way it is a fast at the SR-71 blackbird with the same high altitude flight capability. Weapons like this and many more even more terrifying can be develop by AI inside a quantum computer.
On a water world, a thalassocracy is the key to dominance.
