Edward Furlong should have been a reclusive hacker in hiding but still with his cool vibe like in T2 "Easy money" and the movie should have been about trying to find him with Sarah and the T-800 then building him back up. Even if he was in the background, bringing down Legion remotely. His current appearance would be perfect because John Connor would probably have PTSD, drug and alcohol problems after the events of T2 and coming to terms with his life. Add in Robert Patrick in a T-1000 origins role, Michael Biehn, de-aged flashbacks and the Future War and you have a great premise for a true T3 but it would have to be directed by Cameron for it to be remotely decent.

I mean there is just so many interesting things u can do with that playbook. The perfect ending too could be a battle weary scarred up Kyle Reese kneeling down in the time machine while John Connor tells him that his very existence relies on him and he must succeed or all will be lost, something like that is what the franchise needed not just another same ol "terminator sent back in time to kill someone" copy and paste story.

I don't see T3 was being a bad movie, it has some really cool stuff in it and I would say if anything, the ending it shows should've happened way earlier in the film and them showed us them trying to deal with the fallout time/aftermath and setting up more for salvation (which in turn, directed by someone else, and no mad-max fanboying+a transformer in it). They just crammed too much T2 fanservice into it. Still take it as the third film of a franchise anyday, and let the others be alternative timelines, or totally ignore them (dark fate is such garbage). I’ll never forgive him for giving his blessing to that and I’m sorry but if anyone thinks he didn’t have influence on what was going on in dark fate then your mad. He had moved on from terminator a long long time ago and he didn’t stop for a second and consider the fans of the original generation of Terminator movies at all.

They would have sent Terminators, one after the other, until John was dead. So, I forgave him, but still, the movie could have been amazing and we got a very strange tale of an old robot with aging outer skin, an old lady that keeps blowing up terminators from signals from a robot, another JOHN in the form of a girl, a human hybrid, and one awesome killer robot that was really cool to see on screen. Strange stuff but I re-watched it and it bothered me less and less. Now, I can tolerate it. But yeah, logically, I get why John died but that wasn't the story we needed.

Imagine the headspace that would leave a young kid/teen in. You could really develop a story about John. Imagine we just follow him, no terminator comes but judgement day happens but once it does terminators are sent back in time at the start. With a cast nailing every role, sarah and john along with three other pretty awesome terminators and a few great supporting helpers, and some "normal people" too (as in not involved directly until they find out later or never at all). Nick Stahl, Christian bale, Jason Clarke, CGI-all PALE in comparison to the john connor of thomas dekker, who literally steps up and learns to be whom he is more and more. What even happened to him? 3 should have been the future war movie we all wanted. The narration at the start could have explained that Sarah and John, still unsure about whether they actually stopped Skynet, went off grid and trained regardless. The timeline goes as is established in the first two movies and Skynet went online in 1997.
This leads us into the last days of the war where the movie begins and we follow John and Kyle as they plan to destroy the defense grid. We see Kyle and the reprogrammed T-800 from the second movie going into the TDU and the loop is completed. Everything that happened in the three movies was meant to happen and there's no changing it. The movie ends with John reflecting on the realization of this fact, knowing how it will play out over and over again for an eternity.
Then we could have a spin off, 'Terminator Story' which is about Sarah and John living off grid and trying to stay out of sight. It would give us a proper send off for Sarah and it would end with the news that Skynet has gone rogue. A prequel to the third movie.

You can even keep the new leader story in there because his destiny did change. Maybe John and new girl fall in love and he pulls a Kyle Reese and She becomes pregnant and the cycle starts over. Maybe Arnold could have been human in this because his machine should not technically exist anymore. Even John dying i feel could have been accepted but not in the way they did. it was like a well fuck you. He could've given his life and then start the new chapter. I mean hell John could have thrown a thumbs up as he was falling off something with a smile. Meanwhile Sarah Conner is also maybe settled but estranged with her son. but she keeps up with the signs and watches the news and maybe sees a potential orb spot that has been sanctioned off. She convinces John that it might be happening again but its not their war this time.

I think that with all the little flaws in the SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, that was the actual good follow up on the John Connor development after T2. You see how his reunion with Sarah is and both living together, with her still having PTSD about the events of the 1st and 2nd film and her role as a mother to a child that was a juvenile delinquent burdened with the responsibility of a global resistance leader. His psychological status as he tries to have a normal life with a mother that also was traumatized and obsessed. Lena Heady as a good actress may have not been my choice of Sarah because she played her mostly as a badass instead of a mentally and emotionally damaged forced badass. A theme that James Cameron used as an approached to also Ellen Ripley in ALIENS and a lot of fans tend to get confused because of all the gun shooting. Like Ripley, Sarah's moment of realizing that even in the high weapons training she obtained is that she was in fact NOT a soldier, but more like a damaged survivor that got a bit crazed. With all the tough exterior, she was still a soft and fragile person, that waitress in the diner we see her in the 1st movie, Ripley in ALIENS clearly states when she is being asked to go to the doomed colony of LV426 and told that she will go with the Marines as protection and she responds "Then you don't need me, I'm not a Soldier". The SCCs misses that in the characterization of Sarah Connor, BUT they hit it perfectly on John Connor himself after the events of T2 especially in the 1st episode and the pilot where he cries yelling to his mom that he never wanted to be a messiah figure and asks his mom to make the events stop. As the series progresses you see him becoming rebellious and in a way completely selfish, but then he changes slowly to understand his purpose, there is growth and I believe in the psychological aspects of all of these characters with new ones thrown in and new events there are more and better fortifying progressions...to me the only weak link in the characterization that NEEDED to be corrected was Sarah Connor herself and hence TERMINATOR THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES may have been the best sequel to T2 IMHO objectively and subjectively with all its flaws.

It would always be there. And it would die to protect him." and the obvious line of "I know why you cry but it is something I can never do" The Terminator learns humanity, it loves John and John loves him, this is powerful stuff, beautiful stuff. To bring Arnie back for any more movies is pissing on this story, to which it shows Arnie couldn't give a fuck about the character. I liked in Salvation the CG Arnie shows up, John should've paused a lot longer and then the scene proceeded but I like it, I liked the Pops Vs T-800 (hated the recasting of Bill Paxton) but it was a cool scene, little easter eggs like that are alright but I think you guys hit the nail on the head with the Art Imitating life thing, Make John Conner a fuck up, bring Eddie Furlong back as a mess he is. Make Genysis an Alternate Timeline that they closed off with the sacrificing of Sarah and Reese's lives. There was great material in all the films after T2 but it was always executed terribly and like I said: it shit on the Boy and The Machine Relationship tail.

Has anyone else seen the alternate ending to 'T2: Judgement Day' at all? It's good.
Sarah Connor grows old and gets drunk on the date of Judgement Day. John Connor becomes a US Senator and gets married and has a daugther, who for name's sake I like to imagine is called Kylie Connor, after the grandfather she never met. I've heard rumours that it's the ending James Cameron wanted to make that the actual ending but the studio pressured him to leave the movie open for a sequel... and sequel he didn't want to make...
If you're interested in the alternate ending to 'T2: Judgement Day' and/or have never seen it, let me save you a google search:-

I do think it's cool, but unrealistic. I feel they would've had to definitely be on the move, go underground, let a lot of heat die down. There were known fugitives and they'd still be asking questions about where the terminator (T-800 arnold) went. I think Sarah Connor Chronicles displayed all that really well, and I wish we'd gotten the third season that dropped John in the future wars-they had the look, feel, horror, acting, and everything there.

The big let down about the sequels following T2 is that we never got to see the big war leading to the fruition of John Connor inspiring a victory. All of the movies tease what starts it out tease an action sweetener or two but what we needed was too actually see the war that was prophesized about.

T3 shouldn't be so underappreciated, it's not so brilliant as T2, but it's still better than all following movies. I like it, it's following the original Terminator theme. And the Terminator storyline shouldn't be taken so seriously, it's an action flick based on Schwarzenegger's charisma, not science fiction.
