This Walnut Sculpted Desk was designed specifically for two of my favourite clients. The main request was to have an elegant minimalist desk but with a sculptural element.
As always I provided a number of designs for my clients and they decided to go ahead with the design outlined by the miniature model I showed at the beginning of this video.
The model is to scale and helped to not only visualise the design but also helped in the construction of the desk as I could reference the curves and angles of the rails.
As always thank you so much for your support here on CZcams. The fact that you even watch my videos means I can continue to make more unique builds and share them with you. And if you haven’t already, please consider subscribing as this will help my videos to get pushed out to more and more people.
Now you hear me talk about Patreon a lot. It’s actually the main way that I can financially support this channel and continue to provide free videos here on CZcams. If you’re still not sure about it, then you can watch this short video which will outline all the extra content you can gain exclusive access too. / about

Your photo of the underside of your desk says a lot. I’ve been to many shows featuring “fine” furniture over more decades than I care to remember. I’m “that guy”that gets down on the floor and looks up to see what’s “inside”. Its mostly to get ideas “for how things were done”. It’s amazing how much different the fit and finish of what shows versus what’s hidden that there is in many “fine” pieces. I appreciate the care you took with the work shown in that shot.

2:40 for those new to design, don’t mistake room specific applications as a limitation. This is actually a huge advantage in design because now you can focus the appearance of your elements to look amazing from a fewer viewpoints.
As wood workers, we are subconsciously Accustom to designing our work to be viewed from all sides and any angle - which is the real limitation

I love your work, it’s always so beautiful. I really appreciate that you are continuing to make client projects and are producing your videos around those projects. A lot of CZcams makers stop doing commissioned projects and become “content creators” while making things for themselves which I feel takes away from the final project because when we make something for ourselves we are willing to accept something that is less than what it might have been. There are three levels of craftsmanship, in my view, the lowest being what we make for ourselves, the second being a commissioned piece, and the ultimate (but most rare) is something we build as an unexpected gift for a loved one. (Your new bench was made for a loved one; yourself, your shop and your craft.) Thank you for continuing to make things on commission and striving for art and beauty.

I make stuff. I’ve always enjoyed your videos. I kept telling my husband that I watched this guy who never spoke and never even showed his face and his channel was still amazing and filled with wood art. Run on sentences aside, thanks for what you do!

Hello Nick! I make stuff. I make: renderings, plans and head the job site when renovating or constructing new homes; I take care of everything from lighting to plumbing fixtures, Choose finishes, draw the millwork plans and elevations, sometimes even for furniture. In my spare time, I like to give old wood new life... repurpose old pieces ... I'm an interior designer by trade..... But I think I am a woodworker at heart. Thank you for your videos and for the time spent on keeping your channel well updated. It has brought me a lot of joy to watch you work and try and follow your thought process as best I could - I am nowhere near your level of execution! .Keep them coming! Cheers!

Hey Nick! I'm probably a little late with this comment... But, listening to you mention that you enjoy watching CZcams videos of talented, smaller, and growing channels (me too), I think you might really like Cory at Fortress Fine Woodworking. Among other builds, I was thoroughly impressed with his 'Gothic Table' series. It's his take on Gothic style, which I've rarely seen, and he did an insane trestle base and some AMAZING brass inlay work. I can usually watch one video and guess the rough channel subscriber count, and I was sadly a couple hundred k off! I think, based on his talent, humor, editing skills and some drool worthy tools in a new commercial shop he just set up, I feel like he deserves so much more... and no, I have no personal relationship with him, lol. Never even left a comment, I just thought of him, listening to you mention channels I enjoy as well and feel he deserves a look... I'm in Canada, just sold my business and plan on starting my own custom furniture shop as well. You make some stunning pieces and I look forward to seeing more! I'd really like to learn more from you about the business end, so I'll be seeing you in the Patreon soon👍
    Cheers🇨🇦

Not knowing how to make it is the fun part, it engages the brain in a creative way. You are so right to jump on challenging commissions like this. These jobs are few and far between, I love doing this type of work over normal joinery every time. Great job. p.s. I am super envious of your panel saw.
