I'm reading The Miniaturist at the moment! I'm almost halfway through and I'm really liking it so far. I live in Amsterdam, so to me it's really fun to have the characters walking through the streets I grew up in :)
Regan = destroyer of book bans. You do such a great job of summing up books that you make me want to read books I previously intentionally did not add to my TBR list. This month it's The Miniaturist. Love your wrap ups! :)
okay, I know I'm super late, but I just finished reading "The Miniaturist" per Regan's request and I adored it, couldn't put it down. But! I wish that thing that had happened didn't happen, and I also toooootallly saw both big twists coming.
Your love to historical fiction makes me wanna read them!! love love the wrap up. My fav book that I read this month is Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe (ITS SO FREAKIN GOOD)
I read The Duff this month too! I loved it, but I'm a sucker for kinda cliche, drama-filled plots because my teenage life was never like that, lol. I thought it had a nice message too and liked that the most of the book, mostly because I felt like Kody Keplinger got it across without being too preachy? Like, I felt like it was something that seemed like a revelation to Bianca and like she grew a lot as a character by the end. Also, Hills Like White Elephants is A+. I had to read it for a Lit Crit class a few semesters ago and I love it. :)
You might be my favorite booktuber! I just really enjoy your videos and how you are so passionate about the books you read. :) btw, you have beautiful hair!
We read hills like white elephants at school and at first i did not understand anything at all! I understood that it was a hidden message there, but i could not see what it was! Then i read it a few more times and suddenly understood everything, and when i first started to understand, i tought it was so beautiful and clever! Like iceberg theory delux! We worked with that tiny short story for weeks (i had to play it out in front of the class and write an essey), and working so much with it made me really connect with it and i do still think about it a lot! I need to read some more hemingway...
I'm currently reading To Kill a Mockingbird and I genuinely am loving it, Scout's narrative tone is just so likeable and witty and admirable. I never thought I'd like the book as much as I am and I'm just so glad I finally picked it up. So if anyone is reading this comment and hasn't read the book please do! Even if you're like me and tend to strictly stick to YA. :))) And I JUST LOVE YOUR CHANNEL and that map always makes me want to go buy one too.
In the 17thC The Netherlands was in its Golden Age. The arts scene was headed by icon Rembrandt, his cohorts Vermeer & Hals, and a host of others, & I mean dozens. It was a cool time period. Any quality book on paintings in the Rijksmuseum & The Golden Age by Haak will give one a sense of the breadth & depth of the period.
I just bought Falling Kingdoms and I'm so excited, and I've been meaning to pick up The Miniaturist for a few months now, but keep forgetting and getting distracted whenever I go in Barnes and Noble. Hills Like White Elephants is really strong and a fantastic read.
The DUFF is epic in how badly written it is. Not the story or the characters necessarily, just the writing style - it reads like it was written by a kid, which it was so I guess that explains that. Fairly sure the movie is a massive improvement.
I love that The miniaturist takes place in my country, I don't see many books set in The Netherlands. I will keep an eye on this one - I like historical fiction. Happy reading in March :D!
I've had to read hills like white elephants for two different courses this semester. Hearing my American lit class argue over it was kinda funny. One of my favorite things I read this month was Hilda and the bird parade by Luke Pearson. Cutest graphic novel ever. I loved it so much
Hmm, I wasn't really interested in the Miniaturist up until this point, but I might have to give it a go after hearing your thoughts. :) I've been on quite a contemporary kick this month, and I just finished my...fourth one in the space of the past two weeks, though three of those were in the last four days. They're just so fluffy and wonderful and make me smile and things. x) I also (finally) managed to get around to reading the Reboot duology, which has been on my tbr shelf for the past...year, it feels like, and a couple of graphic novels too. The other book that I read was Throne of Glass and oh my god. Wow. WOW. Yes, please and thank you, I shall be reading more of this SOON because Celaena. I love her. Good luck with the March tbr stuff! :D
I absolutely adored The DUFF, probably because I'm a younger audience but I found it cute and I felt as though I connected with Bianca's character, idk, I liked it
if you enjoyed Ms. Marvel definitely check out the Hawkeye volumes, they're really good and you don't need to totally know the Marvel verse to understand it, definitely a lot more than it looks on the surface than just being Hawkeye, plus it has Kate Bishop who is an amazing character.
I did hella good this month! I read... Blue is the Warmest Color by Julie Maroh Ms. Marvel, Vol. 1: No Normal by G. Willow Wilson Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews Grace's Guide: The Art of Pretending to be a Grown-up by Grace Helbig Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll Gilead by Marilynn Robinson Bossypants by Tina Fey
That's absolutely okay! I honestly don't even know how I did it! A few of those were audiobooks, so that helped. As long as you're reading and enjoying it that is all that matters.
Started reading the Falling Kingdoms series and I totally agree! It reads super quickly ~ too bad I couldn't finish book 2 in february with only 36 minutes left and a total of 100+ pages to go ~ XD; happy reading in March though :D
i think my fav book last month had to be sisters fate by Jessica Spotswood and of course the way of kings by Brandon Sanderson... it´s soooo freaking good!!!
The first book I read this month was on my ipad and that was Unravel Me by Taherah Mafi. I didn't really enjoy the first book all that much and the first like part of this book but honestly overall I will say that this was a major step-up from the first book in my opinion and I ended up giving it 4/5 stars and will probably end up finishing the series. I also read both Never Fade and In The Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken and OH MY GOODNESS. I LOVE THAT TRILOGY SO MUCH. It was bittersweet because I didn't want it to end but I thought this trilogy was amazing beginning to end. And the last book I read was Fairest by Marissa Meyer which i thought was super interesting and I'm so pumped for Winter.
I've been slowly repelling my massive, nearly six-month reading slump. I read all of the Dragon Age novels out to-date, Northanger Abbey, and started #yearofcosmere by rereading Warbreaker
I just finished Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. I really don't know how that man makes you think all is well in the book and then immediately slams you with an insane complication that is completely obvious after you've read it.
You should read Alex + Ada! Great graphic novel. Sci-fi love story similar to Saga. It actually reminds me a ton of the movie Her if you have seen that.
Only Hemingway I read was Old Man and the Sea and its safe it say that I didn't love it. A much bigger fan of J.D. Salinger; I love Catcher in the Rye. And I totally understand the lack of connection to teen drama. And it really doesn't have to be an age thing its mostly how you value those situations. Some people would be devastated on to go to prom while others would brush it off.
I haven't read the book DUFF but I did see the movie, and I actually really enjoyed it. Not the best movie ever, but it was pretty good. You should still see the movie.
I read Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld which was amazing :D I also read The Clockwork Scarab and The Spiritglass Charade which I really enjoyed. And I finally finished In The Afterlight which was of course fantastic ;)
Hey, Regan!! You might like "I Am Having So Much Fun Here Without You" by Courtney Maum. It's like a love story in reverse as a man tries to win back the love of his wife. It's sweet, sad, poignant. I just thought you might like it.
Have you read Girl With a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier? It's one of my favourites. I believe it's set in 17th century Netherlands. Great wrap-up! :D
Yes it takes place in the netherlands because the story is based on a painting that a dutch painter made (forgot his name xd i think it was vermeer but don't quote me on that) and the painting is in my opinion soooo ugly but yeah more a fan of rembrandt ;)
Hi Regan! I've been considering picking up the falling kingom series for a while now. It's just that it's so hyped that I'm afraid I might end up not liking it as much as I'd like to.. I don't know..after reading a song of ice and fire by geroge r.r. martin I feel like I find every other high fantasy (especially if it's ya) disappoiting: the characters are not as developed as I want them to be, the plot twists are predictable... But if you say this is good, then I might actually read it.
I also read The DUFF this month amongst other things. I was really disappointed with it. I just felt apathetic towards all the characters and had some issues with the plot. I agree there are much better contemporary books out there.
Agreed! I think I'd have loved DUFF at 12 years old or something, for some reason I went into it at 20 years of age thinking it would be a really insightful read and, idk, have a bit more to it than it actually did 😶
i did okay this month . city of lost souls by Cassie Clare divergent by v Roth ( reread ) sorcerers stone by jk Rowling ( reread duh ) clockwork angel by Cassie Clare insurgent by v Roth ( reread )
I like Saga, but I have to admit, I was shocked by the level of violence. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it didn't need to be there, I was just a tad disturbed.
Falling kingdoms is really good. I have been wanting to get into historical fiction. *Wear your glasses more pleeeeeeaaaaaasssseeeee* Saga aka the most famous graphic novels in like ever...yet I haven't Picked up volume 4 yet ;( MORE GRAPHIC NOVELS YAS BOO THIS VIEEO YA YA YA
YES HEMINGWAY. He's one of my favorite writers of all time and certainly of the 20th century. I really loved that short story as well.
Veronica Lloyd He really is great
I'm reading The Miniaturist at the moment!
by far my favorite booktuber
i'm so intrigued by the miniaturist. the setting sounds awesome and the plot, really just everything about it. i'll definitely be picking it up soon!
i love hills like white elephants, we read it in one of my literature classes last semester and it's so great.
okay, I know I'm super late, but I just finished reading "The Miniaturist" per Regan's request and I adored it, couldn't put it down. But! I wish that thing that had happened didn't happen, and I also toooootallly saw both big twists coming.

HILLS LIKE WHITE ELEPHANTS. I love that short story! One of my favorites. We read it a few weeks ago in Lit and...yeah.
If you can write a three page short story that's still awesome, dang you're a good writer
I'm glad you like The Minaturist! I really enjoyed it as well and like you said picks up in the 2nd half.
I read The Duff this month too! I loved it, but I'm a sucker for kinda cliche, drama-filled plots because my teenage life was never like that, lol. I thought it had a nice message too and liked that the most of the book, mostly because I felt like Kody Keplinger got it across without being too preachy? You should watch Reign on the CW. I feel like you would fall in love with it.
You might be my favorite booktuber! I just really enjoy your videos and how you are so passionate about the books you read. :)

Everyone seems to be reading The Miniaturist these days! I'll have to pick it up for next month :)
The Miniaturist sounds so good!

I really want to read the miniaturist, it sounds so different! Another great video Reagan, they are always so on point :)
Alex+Ada for the win. My favorite this month.:)
Just found out that the fourth book the Falling Kingdoms series is Frozen Tides; no word on its release date though
I read 10 book this month. My favorite by far was the Knife of Never Letting Go. At first I wasn't sure if I'd even like it but I ended up loving it.
Totally agree with you
Tears fill my eyes whenever someone mentions their love for KONLG, you're right, and the whole series is amazing too :')
My favorite book this month was Vicious by V.E Schwab I can't believe I waited so long to jump in it! It was so good
I love that The miniaturist takes place in my country, I don't see many books set in The Netherlands. I will keep an eye on this one - I like historical fiction. Happy reading in March :D!
My thoughts exactly haha!
It's sounds so fantastic, but I've been waffling on purchasing it vs borrowing it from the library because I've heard such mixed reviews. Hmmm...
I loved The Miniaturist!
I've had to read hills like white elephants for two different courses this semester. Hearing my American lit class argue over it was kinda funny. One of my favorite things I read this month was Hilda and the bird parade by Luke Pearson. Cutest graphic novel ever. I loved it so much

Did you like Me and Earl? It made me cry! But it's definitely not for some people.
I did not like it, unfortunately. It was unique, and I wanted to like it, but I just didn't.
Watched 4 seasons of parks and reck and read the infernal devices this month!
Started reading the Falling Kingdoms series and I totally agree! It reads super quickly ~ too bad I couldn't finish book 2 in february with only 36 minutes left and a total of 100+ pages to go ~ XD;

The first book I read this month was on my ipad and that was Unravel Me by Taherah Mafi. ILY ILY
Ugh Duff was a book adaptation? I saw the movie trailer and just rolled my eyes so hard my eyes were at the end of the atlantic ocean.
I've been slowly repelling my massive, nearly six-month reading slump. I read all of the Dragon Age novels out to-date, Northanger Abbey, and started #yearofcosmere by rereading Warbreaker
I just finished Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. I really don't know how that man makes you think all is well in the book and then immediately slams you with an insane complication that is completely obvious after you've read it.
i did really good and read a total of 14 books... i was kinda proud of myself :,)
I'm reading Hard Times by Charles Dickens. I love his writing style!
I read The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith and I loved it. I highly recommend it, it's the sequal to The cuckoo's calling.
I really want to start reading the fallen kingdom series. I feel like it is time.
You should read Alex + Ada! Great graphic novel. Sci-fi love story similar to Saga. It actually reminds me a ton of the movie Her if you have seen that.
OMG I LOVE HEMINGWAY SO MUCH TOO OMG WOW
just finished rereading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and cried so much!! it was amazing though :)
I want to read The Miniaturist now!
Only Hemingway I read was Old Man and the Sea and its safe it say that I didn't love it. A much bigger fan of J.D. Salinger; I love Catcher in the Rye. Hello great wrap up!✌️
Cool! I read A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess and really dug it! :D
I see the red queen!!
I didnt really like the Duff either. I feel ya Regan, getting too old to care about the woes of high school.
I also read The DUFF this month amongst other things. I was really disappointed with it. I just felt apathetic towards all the characters and had some issues with the plot. I agree there are much better contemporary books out there.
Agreed! I think I'd have loved DUFF at 12 years old or something, for some reason I went into it at 20 years of age thinking it would be a really insightful read and, idk, have a bit more to it than it actually did 😶
I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt this way.
Can you please do a room tour? :)))

I just can't convince myself to read The DUFF. I think I'll just see the movie instead. (Even though they say it's really different).
Book depository looks interesting...
I do most of my shopping on amazon though...
how would you compare?
I like Saga, but I have to admit, I was shocked by the level of violence. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it didn't need to be there, I was just a tad disturbed.
Hi - I was wondering if you were planning on going to the North Texas Teen Book Festival!!!
The Duff movie is better than the book imo.

I gave The Duff 2 stars and was in a good mood. One of the worst books I've ever read lol
