  • Most cyclists just buy a helmet that's within budget without thinking much about it. As long as it looks decent and is comfortable to wear, that's good enough. But how sure are you that the helmet you have will protect you in a crash? Xnito made an innovative helmet that's supposedly brings the safety of bike helmets to the next level. Is it worth your money?

    I read somewhere a helmet is ineffective after one hit and should be discarded even if no apparent damage.
    Good review I’ll get one. I usually ride early or late in summer.

    I have been using my monkeylectric lights for over 5 years, i think they are out of business now and dont make em anymore but imo, they are the best lights ever made. Its like a stroboscope on your wheels, super bright, creates an aura of light around your bike, has over 50 design and over 50 colors so its also fun, attracts attention a lot, cars usually let me pass and steer clear of me. Get a lot of smiles and comments from pedestrians and cops know me and wave at me when they see me.

    How's the weight? Most cycle helmets are quite light compared to hard shell helmets. My daily is a Giro Isode MIPS which weighs 270g. As a comparison, I've got a classic '70s hard shell Bell which weighs 465g. You can really feel the weight, and the less effective cooling (11 NACA style ducts, similar to that Xnito).

    • @therealkakkamakkara
      @therealkakkamakkara Před rokem +1

      375g (one size) according to link provided. which is too heavy for long rides and race position (must be sub 300g imho). Its uncomfortable, may wear your neck out, and it's less safe because it's more mass and momentum for the head in the event of a crash. Personally I don't want another lipo-battery on my person in the event of a crash risking chemical burn on my head too. In general I dislike "smart" bicycle products, attempting to turn the simple bicycle to a lazy motorized vehicle with all the amenities. It's ceases to be a bicycle at one point.

    Hmm at 150 bucks it'd be competing with lots of good brand helmets like Giro or Kask ... Which would have all the vents you'll ever need, some even come in highlighter orange or yellow

    Funny how it follows the a Dutch standard for protection, yet it technically isn't legal in the Netherlands. Police probably won't stop you for it, but in the Netherlands lights must be fixed on your bike or on a non-moving part of your body, which means your back and chest.

  • @peterbaskind9872
    @peterbaskind9872 Před rokem

    Wow. With those vents, I could wear that helmet in Memphis in January. Maybe February.
    The light is a nice touch. But long ago, I attached a couple of those super-cheap Chinese strap-on lights to my MIPS helmet. They, of course, run off those flat batteries that are roughly the size of a nickel. They work great, and last a long, long time. Indeed, you might want to buy some for the folks who show up without light for your ride. They are not appropriate to replace REAL lights, but they are far better than nothing and darn-near free.

    • @event4216
      @event4216 Před rokem

      @Bebo 3sp is tricky to set up. With wrong ratio it's either too low or too high. It also depends on terrain, mostly it's good to set up 3 as a regular gear, 2 for long ascents and 1 for climbing steep bridge passes etc.
      Shops sell bikes set for 2 as regular gear, people spin out on it, go for 3 and blame it's too hard.

      @Bebo You miss the point. In holland the car/bike culture is different. In many areas the bikes are completely separated from cars.

    • @ilovephotography1254
      @ilovephotography1254 Před rokem +2

      -DOT certified motorcycle helmets don't have MIPS, yet offers far greatest protection at speed past 28mph.
      -NTA-8776 in contrast to MIPS, does not have receive patent license fees. It is a helmet certification dictated by the Dutch, to protect those ridding power assist only e-bikes that can reach speeds up to 28mph.
      -The reality is MIPS only offers protection only in a specific types of falls. The developer of MIPS has a patent and receives licensing fees. The license holders of MIPS, are doing a good job of promoting their technology. You can have both MIPS and NTA-8776 protection in one helmet. Unless that MIPS helmet is NTA-8776 approved, the level of speed protection ends at 15mph.
      -If you happen to be in a crash, ridding down hill at speed between 16-28mph, what helmet would you want to be wearing?
      -Final consideration. The Xnito helmet with built in head and tail lights, makes the ridder better seen at night, therefore possibly preventing an accident.

    One result of progress: airbag systems for cyclists. They also have pros and cons.

    Brakes could save your life, but, eh, fixed OGs, yeah?
    Leave helmet advocacy to bicycle shops. Advocate for an environment where people don't think they need a helmet to ride a bicycle.
    Helmets don't stop concussion. They "could" prevent your head from being scuffed or your skull from being fractured, but they won't stop your brain smacking into your skull wall during rapid deceleration.
