  • Just thought I would do a quick update for my regular viewers who may wonder whats happening. Been dragging the chain last few months, with some health issues and holdups on the coupe, and Nissan 300, finally almost ready to spray the Nissan and now think I need a booth for a better job

For a painting booth, I framed one out of 1"x2" strips then stapled plastic sheeting on the timber for the "walls". You only need the timber for the edges & corners. This kind of booth will be airtight enough to keep overspray in the booth and not all over the shop.

Sounds good mate , only thing is my extraction unit might suck the plastic sheeting in

Gday Tom if you have the room then just look for a second hand booth and put it in a corner, maybe where you have your gmc pickup, it’s been my experience that temporary is just looking for a heart ache. Good luck with your projects from San Diego.

Hey Tom, good to talk to you today about a booth. Let me come back to you with some options. Looking forward to seeing the coupe on the road!

Plywood or fibre cement (whichever is cheaper) and timber would have to be the way to go. I assume it would be problematic opening the door with wet paint while the fan is going. You might need an intake with an air filter as well.

You might need to please the EPA with a full booth installation.
Why not ask around local panel shops. Often they will rent out time in their booth for you to paint a car, perhaps on a Sunday for example when it's not used.
Far more cost effective than having your own booth for what really is limited use.

Damn that 300zx looks good, its a shame that you will let it go. Craft diffs built my escorts 75series falcon diff 26yrs ago. Great update mate.

Thanks Jase, yeah I like the 300zx, but it was an unplanned project that now is really getting in the way of my major projects so, I hope to get it done soon

@@phatridesgarage3760 theres easy projects 20yrs ago. I remember calling a dude in Sydney early 2000s who was shipping them from japan. Mine had a quick cheap paint job that faded every two weeks 🤪 I reckon a massive party gazebo would be ok. Led lights everywhere ✨️. I'm a tightass so it would do me 😎

Nice update Tom, a good purpose built second hand booth would be the go, hand built booths never seem to get the flow to size correct, mine has a good quality VSD very handy for just the right fan speed setting per volume. 😎

What about one of those inflatable booths you can buy online? Pretty handy in terms of packing away when you're finished the job! around $1500

Use cool room panels to build your booth

  • @adelaideinvigilation5230

Not sure of how or what materials I do know that you need to have negative air pressure in your booth when working, that might be hard to achieve building on the cheap - sorry that is not helpful but I thought about a market garden tunnel out of heavy duty plastic with 20 mm conduit but not sure if it would achieve the results required. I worked in an area that needed to be dust-free I used an air ioniser that might be a solution to the airborne dust you can buy industrial air purifiers but at what cost

Make some frames out of 25mm shs or 50mm shs, eg, 2 side frames, a roof frame and a door frame, that way when not in use, you can stack it against the wall, for your doors hinge some alloy screen door's together and add filter's to them, cover the frames with clear plastic so some fluorescent lights can be hooked up on the outside to prove good visibility inside the booth, the end wall is your current open end booth set-up, so you end up with a cheap end draft booth, just wet the floor down before spraying, just replace the clear plastic as required, hope this idea helps out mate

Make steel frame & use Stylus Masked Taping Film or walls. You could double it up if ya want. You could frame up a door for it as well.

Buy a good second hand booth. I've seen loads of people build one out of junk and they're nearly always garbage.

Get a blow up spray booth they seem to work OK and you can deflate it when the total car job is done.🤔

Hey Tom have you considered one of those inflatable paint booths that you can out up and down when you want to? Not too expensive but not sure how good they are may not be "quarity number one" Lol.

yes I have thought about them Richard, but I think I want to use my open face booth and combine it with either a normal booth enclosure, or a retractable enclosure. Cheers mate
