- In this video I go back and look through some of the original footage and describe the work and just see how much work went into building the body with all the modifications we have now, before moving forwards and installing all the Donor car parts and continue the build Project

YEH , its a custom car, not a concourse build, its the way we did it in the 70s and 80s, bugger the matching numbers and original paint and wheels, its an expression of our dreams, no grandpa spec, i remember people laughing in the 80s about original everything, this is an awesome build, love your outlook , i think this build is miles ahead of anything today, total respect to you and your vision....
Thats an Awesome comment John , you seem to really get where Im coming from, I appreciate it mate !
ive been there, transferred a poverty pack falcon to an awesome street car, the only thing left original was the roof, and bare bones caucus , but that was long ago, im really enjoying your talent and vision, respect to you..@@phatridesgarage3760
Exactly guys . Who wants the old technology and engineering. It’s the old body look with new technology engineering. Absolutely insane craftsmanship. Well done . Dream building for my xc
Thanks alot mate for the comment !
Great achievement guys well done… congratulations 👏 really look forward to seeing your car completed 👍🏻
I’m so pleased this popped up. Simply amazing. Glad we have so many gifted Australian craftsmen. 👍🇦🇺
Thanks alot, glad you enjoyed it !
You did an outstanding job on this project the doors set it off it looks fantastic great job definitely thumbs up on this 👍👍👍👍👍
Much appreciated mate !
Haven't watched this right from the beginning, but joined in fairly early on. I love this sort of custom work.
This has become one of my favourite builds on CZcams, along with Home Built by Jeff's Alfarrari and all of the Retropower builds.
Thank you for taking the time to allow your viewers to follow your progress. Look forward to the assembly process.
Thank you very much! and I appreciate you watching and following
I never realised the fine engineering that went into this car because I came in relatively late in the videos. But wow! So much respect for the work you have put in! Incredible 👌
Thanks alot I appreciate that !
Just came across your channel and I have to say AMAIZING. Still alot of old school handmade parts
Thanks for watching, glad you liked it
There are so many guys on CZcams doing car build videos and I'm always sceptical when I see these randomly pop up in my feed, but this one is exceptional. What an interesting build and well produced video. Thank you for sharing. Great work!
Thanks alot mate appreciate your comment !
Mind blowing build!! ... Love the "just watch me" attitude!!
Thanks mate!
Again, thanks for the great show
your most welcome Sam!
You must feel quite accomplished and proud of the work you've done, considering all the Engineers that treated your request like a beginner! Great work - so keen to see these next episodes, as this is where the good stuff really begins!!
Thank you very much mate, yes your right, it feels good!
Fantastic work, The car looks great and really compliments your skill. Can't wait to see more.
Thank you very much!
tHank you, this video was good fun.
Watching you build up the frame was really interesting.
Thanks very much ! Glad you enjoyed it
Love it. She's a beast. Your workmanship & attention to detail is a real credit to you. 👌
appreciate that mate thankyou !
Not sure how I have missed this channel but awesome work mate. Going to have to go back and watch it all now.
She is going to be a killa ride once done.
awesome thanks mate !
Thanks for the refresh. It would have been good to see it all but there were things at the beginning that I missed before I joined your channel. We will all be looking forward to seeing the drive train go in and see how she sits with the added weight. Interesting times ahead.
Cheers mate, very excited to start assembling!
Where have all those coupe's gone these days? It's good to see you restoring one. I had a XA 6 cylinder 4 speed one in the late 80's as did my old boss. His was a gold coloured XB Fairmont Coupe with a 351 column auto and skinny wheels, sunvisor and hubcaps. I've never seen a column auto in coupes but it may have been a special order as the chap was disabled and would put his wheelchair behind him. The long door helped.
Thanks mate
A work of individual work of art. Bravo!
Thankyou Steve !
WOW! Motorized sculpture!!!!
Thanks, Nice description)
I'm a big fan of Ford Falcon from PNG, watching your video seeing you build this car and guiding us through each stages of what you're doing is awesome... You just gained a follower... ✌✌✌
Thanks mate great to have you on board with the builds!
Looks great. Interesting to see the finished weight of this to a stock xb. It looks super strong and stiff.👍🏽
Thanks Jim, yeah Im hoping it is between the weight of an XB and that of a Mustang GT
that is an amazing job. Great work
Thanks very much mate
Far out, talk about a master of your craft, this car is stunning. Look forward to the final product
Cheers mate appreciate the comment
too many people have no understanding of what is possible and see it as too hard , forget it,
just like those engineers that have dried up shrivelled, too tired worn out no hopers .
good on you for following the path, stay strong
Thanks alot mate I appreciate you !
Outstanding! You`re a clever man .
Thank you very much!
A true craftsman at work Tom.
Thanks mate
doing my dream build bravo! Love your work
Thanks mate !
Amazing skills and work!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great work mate! inspirational!!
Great to hear that, thanks alot
Hey Tom, as always great video. I've been following along from the start yet had forgotten just how much work had gone into the project. Progress to date is a testament to your skill and tenacity. I'm looking forward to coming episodes. Bring on the donk!
Thanks Brendan I appreciate that and thanks for watching and the support for the channel mate 👍
Awesome Build. Looking forward to watching it progress. 👍
Thanks mate, good to hear
Hey mate, there's nothing wrong with the quality of your videos, usually I say to builder's of cars is there's only 2 people that have to like the build and that is the builder and the owner, in your case of being a owner builder, it's you and the engineer, its good to be an individual and break the norm
Thanks very much Michael your spot on !
Ya a legend old mate keep it up love watching your progress on both the xa and the coupe cheers 🍻 👍
Thanks Graham ! 👍
some bold custom work mate great workmanship. love to see it finished
Thanks mate I appreciate that 👍
Great recap Tom, very interesting to watch that journey again, also absolutely love the new lay out and the new hoist 🤩👍😎
Thanks Kim , yeah I should gave done this with the workshop ages ago , cheers mate
Hell of a fabrication looks good..👍
Thanks mate !
Very cool project 👍 I'm so impressed how cleanly you integrated the Mustang floor pan and fire wall section.
I live on Vancouver BC 🇨🇦 and wish classic Australian Falcon GT's had been available here.
They look like a interesting Ford combination of Mustang, Torino and more. That's going to be a fun ride. Hope we get to see it rip down the road.
Thanks alot I appreciate your comment 👍
Wow! Love the detail
Thank you!
That was an awesome catch up Tom, I've been keen as to see a video like that so good on you. Keep up the awesome content 👏
Thanks Aaron 👍

Thanks mate ! Will do!
Mate congrats on the build so far she is awesome! I have been tracking this for the start and would attempt something along the same lines if I ever won lotto. Love those mirrors and door handles also!!
Thanks alot Anthony !
bloody awesome build ive been watchin the build for a long time OH & your vid are cool & real,
Thanks so much Adrian appreciate that mate
Hello, stumbled upon your channel, incredible detail and workmanship. You might want to tell the engineer he needs a new chair (24th minute). LOL I hope you wrote down all the measurements in case you want to recreate it for a customer in the future. Thanks for the detailed video. Hopefully we’ll see an update soon on more progress. TY
Thanks alot mate appreciate that !
Amazing amazing 👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Very cool build - done YOUR way for YOUR wants! 👍😎
It's not like you dropped an LS/LT or Hemi into it, so it's all good - and with all that chassis re-inforcement it's going to be a LOT stronger and more rigid than the original ever was.
As it is, some very nice fab' work - even if you don't seem to rate it that much!
Thanks mate really appreciate your comments 👍
Very talented man
Thank you very much for that 🙏
Happy new year Tom! That was a neat recap of the massive amount of work to-date. Cheers Tony and Anna
Happy new year Tony ! thanks alot for watching the videos
Bloody luv it work of art
Also luv the concept shit hot 👍🏻
Thanks alot mate I do appreciate it !
Happy new year Tom and family
Thanks Jason ! Happy new Year
BRAVO Tom magnificent faultless you must feel good about it all your too modest on your ability
Thanks so much Russell ! I glanced at the old video of me making the front shock tower and A pillar brace and for a moment realised just how much work I had done and that it was all my own design, so yeah in that moment I felt quite proud, and also felt I needed to make this video as closure on that segment of the build before moving forwards
Thanks so much for watching and the support mate
@@phatridesgarage3760 Appreciate the time you take to reply too
Next level tradesman,
Thanks alot!
Brilliant effort on customising the ol girl. Going by all the extra metal to add support and rigidity do you have and estimate of total weight.
Google reckons 74 xb hardtop factory was 1395kg.
No doubt the coyote will make up for the power to weight ratio over the stock version with a 351.
Thanks alot mate! as for your question, Im not sure , I think Ive added about another 100- 150 kgs to the body, Google says that the Mustang GT is about 1700kgs approx , Engineer says as long as we end up somewhere between the Falcons curb weight and the Mustangs curb weight we should be fine, as long as we dont go over the Mustangs weight
great project
Thanks mate!
That was a fun watch Tom I enjoyed it. It was nice to go back and look with older eyes. I couldn’t help wonder where you were going to put the battery I don’t remember hearing you talk about it perhaps I have forgotten I suppose the boot is the best place. Hope you had a great holiday and Christmas. :-)
Hi Andrew , glad you liked it mate, I felt I needed to make it, glad i did , the battery most likely will go in the boot, unless I find another spot , hope this year is a good one for you guys up there mate !
Congratulations with the car mate 🎉 loving your work so far with all the cars you have built and building looking forward to seeing them finished BTW happy new year 🎉looking forward to seeing more videos
Thanks mate happy New Year also 👍
Really Impressive Mate!
Thanks a lot mate
Great work man but i love xa falcon sedan my favourite
Cheers mate
Great work Tom! Kudos for your attitude about continuous improvement. I'd humbly suggest you focus on audio quality improvements first.
Thanks alot mate, yes I hear you, will try different mic combinations, as for music I will work on it too
A better car . Worth the weight gain ❤it
Thanks very much mate !
Phatrides is my favourite channel by far to watch on Utube
Thanks Toddyboy thats great to hear !👍
Loving your format in this video top stuff Tom, don't listen to the haters😊 Happy New Year to you and your family and all the best for 2024🎉🎉🎉
Cheers🍻🍻🍻🍻 KC 🇦🇺🇦🇺🤝🇳🇿🇳🇿🇦🇺😊👍
Happy new year KC ! Cheers mate 👍
@phatridesgarage3760 my pleasure and thankyou 🍻👍🇦🇺😊
You have balls to take a project on like this? How do you not get scared and always motivated?
Thanks mate, The vision I have for the car fills me with creative energy, but truth is there were plenty of times when I wondered if i was ever going to get through it, and it was scary cutting it all up once I had rebuilt the shell, but from that point there was no going back, so could only go forwards haha. But now all that fabrication is done, its exciting going into the next phase. Thanks for your comment I thought it was a very interesting question
Actually really like the look of the mirrors on the car, think it suits it. Not sure how much difference the rules are in regards to engineering in different states in Australia. I know that 10+ years ago I was looking at putting a V8 into a Cortina, yes it's been done to death. Anyhow here in Victoria I wanted to be able to fully seem weld the rails, as they are only spot welded on and this can be a weak point. I wasn't allowed to do that or even strengthen the rails by modifying them.
Thanks Rob I appreciate that. Im no expert , I think rules do change a bit from state to state, but what I do know is that whatever you want to do, its best to find the most qualified and experienced Engineer to advise you, because some advise only to their own levels of understanding of the rules, which may or may not be correct.
Love the build man. Quality work. What wheels you running and sizes. Cheers
thanks alot for that mate, not sure about the wheels, I would like to go for a set of custom 3 piece wheels
Should have put the front guard on as well to see how front sits.
Yeah we did mate but unfortunately it wasnt on camera
Amazing work mate. I had to have a chuckle at some of the numbskull comments from so called engineers... and yes I am a qualified engineer, tradesman and car enthusiast.
Thankyou so much! Good to hear from you and its really cool that you are an Engineer you get me on that aspect haha!
This things goung to be a leap in chassis stiffness. My XB ute, if I wrapped my hand around the A plllar while driving, and placed my fingers on the outside of the windscreen, I could feel the screen moving around in relation to the pillar.
Thanks mate! , never knew the utes were like that
🍺👍🏻👏
Pity you didn’t make all that stuff up using maraging inox. Sure all steel alloys are about the same weight, but maraging steel, expecially the stainless variety (inox is easier to type) is so bloody strong you could literally make it all as thin as paper & still get a engineers pass as long as it was done right. Mind you you’d have to taper up the thickness where the welds would be. Of course I’m being silly, but I’d love to do a car where the front shock towers, front windscreen frame / firewall & everything in between them are made of maraging inox. & the only bit of structural roof is a slanted elongated titanium rollbar rising up from the floor below / behind the side waistlines, with a Porsche 924 style rear hatch & screen directly mounted behind the titanium rollbar & a carbon fibre Targa top between the ti rollbar & the top of the windscreen frame.
My son is starting to look for an apprenticeship so I'd like to ask what suggestions woupd you have for him to become a restorer like yourself ? Should he be looking at body shops that do restoration work or is the average body shop a good start to build skills ? Love your work and looking forward tp see the completion of the falcons coup.
Thanks for you compliment, Im not sure what to advise you , I never did a trade , just self taught . If he really wants to learn this type of work Im not sure the average bodyshop is the place, it may be , but he needs to be sure hes not just ending up doing smash repair . It would be good if he could get a foot in the door at places like Downtown customs, Southern Classic and customs , Maskells Customs , these are some that come to mind but there are many more depending on what state your in . I think its a case of finding someone you think is doing the work you like and approaching them to show your enthusiasm for that specific type of work . I really hope he can find a place for himself there are some outstanding tradesmen out there that wish they could find apprentices with the right attitude im sure 👍 goodluck !
Thank for you time. Much appreciated. We are in Brisbane Qld. Ww will start looking around up here .
Love the mirrors mate where are the from ?
Thanks Scott, they are just from an late model American assembled Mustang GT, I think Australian regulations require the larger mirror, but I think they look off , so i sourced these from Ebay
Do you think you will finish the build this year !
I would love to say Yes, but I really dont know mate, The main thing Im aiming for it getting it running and driving first, then strip, body, paint, upholstery later, Cheers Ben!
Unlike original falcon mirrors atleast you’ll be able to see all the holdens behind you lol
Great video yet again, love the workmanship and pride you take in your work.
Haha! yeah you got that right mate, I could never see F'all outa the orginal mirrors , Cheers Dean!
How many days in a week have been working on this build?
Thats hard to say mate , maybe 1 day a week now but during covid maybe 4-5 days
I didn't know Bendpak lifts were available in Australia. You usually see them given away for free to bigshot CZcamsrs in the U.S.
Where did you get yours from if you don't mind me asking ?
I got mine from Genesis Equipment but there is also a Bendpak Australia Branch, I looked them up on google
Looked like you had RRS shock towers there before. Why not stick with their suspension front and rear?
yeah originally I bought the shock tower kit, but what I went with didnt cost much more and I think much better all round fit for the build
The copper.. coppers fantastic drop..the Xa,b,c falcon two door best shape and ,with a 460 mmmh..need to rob a bank
Link to car craft engineering ?
He dosnt have a website mate, but you can find Him in the Automotive Engineers List , he is in Bankstown NSW. Con Constaninou - Kar Kraft Engineering www.transport.nsw.gov.au/system/files/media/documents/2023/VSFC01%20VSCCS%20Bulletin%201_0.pdf
@@phatridesgarage3760 thank you
I had a chance to look under a XB gt coup and I was shocked to see how week the rockers where . C section not boxed was like 🫤 I can see the skill in your build . I’m fussy but wow ! This is art and science . 👍🇦🇺❤️
Thanks again for that mate happy to know others can see my vision
