  • Well the day finally arrived and after mucking around getting a boot latch setup so we can close the boot, the XB Coupe goes off to the Engineer for Torsion Beam testing to test the strength and rigidity of the body shell after all the modifications I made to it over the last 18 months-2 years . How good can it be? will it even Pass?

      The overall weight of the car is something that I have been thinking about since Tom started to build the car. The car is stiffer with the double sills, that’s good. But it may weigh a bit more. Fascinating journey.

      @@panners125 Just thought Id add a little on the topic guys, I'm sure she will weigh more, but not so much because of the sills, I'm sure they will only add another 20kgs max, but for the rear sub-frame built to mount the IRS, and also the front chassis rails had to be plated where the mustang joins the Falcon rails + the United IFS Cross member which is fairly solid , but I'm hoping shes not much more than 100-150 kg's heavier than the stock 1580kg or so for a 302-351 v8 Coupe/ Hardtop ,whatever you like the call them ) The 2016 Mustang is by some reports on the internet around 1773 kg's , but I see that figure varies depending on the website. As long as it isn't heavier than the Modern Mustangs I don't thinks there is any problems, but lets wait and see 🤞

    • @rustydog1805
      @rustydog1805 Před rokem +3

      Amazing, we look at cars built in the 70s as big heavy steel tanks but a modern Mustang weighs 200 kilos heavier even with all its modern components, aluminium, plastic and thinner gauge steel 😄.
      At least any weight gain is all in strength, which will only improve the ride and handling. I'm sure you're not too worried about the fuel economy.

      @@rustydog1805 Yeah your right mate, actually the mustangs are built very tough, sure the sheet metal is thin, but the frame work, inner sills inner rear quarter structure and rear subframe all seems to be made from toughened steel, I had to strip the donor car and I soon gave up trying to use drill bits and just blew out the spot welds with the plasma cutter or air hammer

    I'm in SA, and the first time I'd even heard of this process was early 2000s with a Datsun 1600 we were building for a client. Luckily we didn't have to transport car as the engineer came to our workshop to perform the test. He was surprised how strong the car was compared a VB-VL Commo, especially since the back side of sill panels still had large chisel holes in them from the crash repairs(we didn't do them).

I was talking to the owner about the build of his car and I mentioned that I had two h/tops an xbgt and an xc cobra … anyway I was looking at some of your earlier videos and wouldn’t you know it … it was your gossy I was parked beside … haha!! Not really , I guess once its finished we will know for sure once compared to factory weights, but im guessing at least 100kg, but then the coyote engine will be almost that much less than a Clevo. I think it should come in somewhere between a stock coupe and a 2016 Mustang GT

    Dont take it outside,, it will be rusty in an hour.
    Engineering?? shortning the IRS diff to have big offset wheels. Dumb and dumber. Shortening a normal diff is the same, bloody stupid. The 19 or 20" wheels? Dumb and dumber. I suspect the front suspension mods will make the car worse as well.
    Whatever this test it will drive and ride poorly. No car ever needs those huge wheels, they look dumb and just stuff up the whole car. The suspension loadings get thrown intio the chassis and then things break
