Great work my man, this is the best IRS swap by far. I’m swapping a S13 240SX IRS into my 77’ Celica GT Liftback and could use your insight on the modification and install. How did you factor in the height of the IRS in relation to the pinion/drivetrain angles, preferred ride height, specs from the manufacturer, etc?
Hi mate thanks alot for that comment, I would have to see your project to give more accurate advise, but I will that say for my project I kinda worked backwards, in other words make the decision where you need the pinion to get your driveshaft angle correct ie between 1 -3 degrees ( this would include height and angle of the IRS cradle) and then fabricate towards that ie: get IRS position set in space, and build to it. This could mean removing metal or adding it , in my case I had to remove part of the chassis rails and re-frabricate to allow the upper control arms full movement, and had to remove the boot floor and section of floor over the IRS, so I just had a big open space above it all. I then built the subframe between the chassis rails to accommodate the IRS in the position set. Sorry Im not so good at explaining things, I hope this makes some sense. You may see more in previous episodes showing what I mentioned here. each car is going to be its own challenge. ............. I think the main thing is if you can get the IRS set up in space in such a way that you have the 1-3% driveline / pinion angle, wheelbase required, and ride height required then fabricate. Using the chassis table i have made things much easier as I could attach the wheels and block things, position things and stand back and look/ measure and get this positioned where I felt it looks right and worked. Feel free to ask more if you want to, not sure if the answers your question well enough
@@phatridesgarage3760 I appreciate it, this helps a lot!
What is the advantage to do this? There is no anti squat with the four bar. I don’t see any bump stops. The spring rate is suspicious. Do you have sufficient travel? The cars ride and handle just fine stock. The stock springs had anti dive and squat because of the stiffer front of the springs. From showing cars at shows for 40 years, I can assure you nobody will notice or appreciate the new suspension
Take it up with ride tech. This chassis was butchered, nothing was original so I bought this kit from Ridetech , but yes I will have to make other changes if even just for the sake of engineering and passing road worthy
hi Tom , can you advise of the name & where to get the skin removal tools ?
@@phase6xe hey mate I think I bought both the skin removal and also the skin folder from Amazon, will be back next week if I remember I will let you know the names and models
Excellent work mate. But helps to have a forklift. And crane. Oh. And a camera lady..
@@johncarne1055 Cheers John ! for sure mate 😉 correct on both of those)
Change those wheels. Everyone has them and it doesn’t suit the theme of the car.
The wheels are for fabrication only , and moving it around the workshop mate
@@phatridesgarage3760 good to here. This car is to unique and such a quality build to wear something like those. Keep. Up the good work.👍
@@Louie2309 Cheers mate !
Thanks Tom for the grouse videos on the 57. I"m getting ready to do similar to my 55 with the Ridetech 4 bar and mini tubs. I"m thinking that the chassis really needs notching at the same time to allow for some decent rear suspension travel. Interested in your thoughts on that?
Thanks for the comment Glenn , not sure about the notching, I havnt looked at it for a while but we will see once i continue with the build, i have seen other videos of these installed and thye seem to work fine as is
Awesome as ever Tom, thanks. I agree with the drop tank and the rectangular exhaust ends, for all that’s worth.
Absolutely ! Cheers mate!
if it looks Bathurst that the shit! no brainer.
again cerakote
exhaust , no direction? I have blown BF XR6 , 2nd hand. I removed extractors to get ceramic coating, I find this flash gasket, Im 61. cannot find replacement?, rehuse, all goid, cant remember which way was fitted. Dont holes in heads line uo for you?, maybe left and right for you? Maybe does not matter? Good luck, I like build.
Cheers mate
Nice try a demurer on those holes swarf = Rust
Already did mate 👍
Hi Tom Coming together nicely. Your attention to detail is phenomenal. As others have mentioned drop tank or ?? A compartment for a kick arse AMP & bass. Even a custom plugged in laptop for tuning your ECU you name it. Keep the vids coming. Cheers & warm wishes from Thailand
Thanks alot mate 👍
Nice work mate, I get what you mean about weight distribution and a drop tank would fill the space up nicely but you could build something that looks like a tank but could house other things like amplifiers/ relocated fuse block from trunk etc just to hide things, anyway just a thought and another 100 hours added to the job lol
Cheers mate
I agree😊
Brilliant concept and execution Tom is great to c a master at work I’m in love with this car have u got a final colour/ colours in mind? Cheers and a few beers🍻
Thanks for the nice comment mate, not sure about master though lol! thinking about bronze Aston Martin color
Good job!!clap your hands yeah!🙌
Thanks Yui 😂
Nice job on the wiring and the electric p/s pump mount and the exhaust system coming together great just waiting to hear it start up again thumbs up 👍👍👍👍👍
Cheers Leonard!
Nice job. I mounted my Astra power steering pump in the rear hatch in my Torana and had no issues with it. Probably drops psi a bit but works fine, and easily accessible.
Definately needs a drop tank mate
agreed!
Hi, what model is the hoist? or the width between posts, please.
Hi mate, it is a Bendpak HD -9 Standard width/ 4082 KG Capacity
@@phatridesgarage3760 thanks.
kool vid bloke its taken shape, its going to be 1 mean untill once its all finished,
Thanks mate I appreciate that!
Good to see it's progressing !over your vision for the coupe !!!
Thanks Mate ! 👍
Coming along Bit by bit. Wiring Boy oh boy, Not sure if you have thought about it , But where the Main Battery cable is Exposed Black Convoluted (tubing) Covering to Protect it from Rubbing or stones etc Might be a good thing ,even down through the Chassis as there s no way to be held Firm. Because the black tubing is split you Should be able to slide it over the top and feed it thru in place. Its certainly going to be a Beautiful thing when its done . Exhaust Gaskets Generally The Raised side facing towards the head I feel. Cheers
Cheers mate ! thanks for the ideas

G'day from West Australia😉 May not be painted, yet still nice to see the mock up stage Tom. Wiring going in fuel tank position pondering. Almost makes me think you might try starting it up sooner rather than later Tom😊

Really enjoying watching your progress Tom,I’m sure you’ll be glad when you finish this project and get to drive it for the first time

You've been busy mate, are you going to vee band the exhaust?
Dosnt seem busy enough , I dont know what you mean by Vee band?
@@phatridesgarage3760 like what turbo use, they are heaps better than slip joint's as they don't get corrosion in-between the tubes
Ah ok mate , For now its staying as it is, trying to save any extra work and money if possible. and it is stainless, so should not need to worry about corrosion
As someone that hasn't really started their hardtop resto this was great mate, very concise. Can't wait to see the coming progress. Cheers.
Thanks alot mate , alot more to come
Great work brother love this build and love restomods in these coupes
Cheers mate I appreciate that !
Phatrides is my favourite channel by far to watch on Utube
Thanks Toddyboy thats great to hear !👍
Are you going to be running a turbo or supercharger?
The plan is to run a Whipple Supercharger, but first I just want to get it running and get it through Engineering and road rego
@@phatridesgarage3760yeah I'd do the same, I'm getting a xc coupe that I'm going to fix up but I'm thinking about running the coyote engine since everyone likes to crash the mustangs, so I'm just trying to work out how much work/money is involved, reckon it'll be worth doing?
@@yeahmate6729 It all depends how far you want to go, this one is huge amount of work more than even the videos can show, even just putting the engine and box in would still require a large amount of modifications, for shock towers, and trans tunnel possibly, you could maybe also look at putting a Ford Godzilla engine in? I dont think they are as wide but still make good power
@@phatridesgarage3760 yeah that's definitely something I've considered just didn't realise they aren't as wide, I think I might have read the dimensions wrong when I first looked them up, I won't be rushing the build so I'll have plenty to decide
Surely you know that it's bolt in so someone can install it at home themselves ?
Yeah , welded it because its what i wanted rather than some self tapers
Nice work! That coyote ilooks massive, such a good motor. You made that steering column change look easy 👍
Thankyou Jase !
if possible id suggest the power steering pump remains under the bonnet. there could be issues with lack of power in the pump or pump overheating with long pulls of oil as they werent designed to pull that far
Thanks Peter, I will look into that, but I want a clean engine bay, that's why the fuse box and battery are in the boot. So I wont be putting the pump in the engine bay, but possibly it could go under the passenger guard if there will be problems with it so far back
Good to see you again Tom , so much work to build a car Is the chev on a different channel or you not filming any of it 👍👍
No working on it yet mate, running a business and trying to build some cars is too much for one guy sometimes haha
Good stuff,
Cheers Sam
Are the front & rear suspension from a mustang donor ?
The Rear is, but the front is aftermarket, its a Magnum IFS from United Speedshop
Great job mate it’s looking awesome. On the engine harness is it worth exploring a bulk head fitting as an alternative to having a grommet and pushing through a Deutsch plug?
Thanks mate ! on the bulkhead idea , Yes it is, I just need to find the right application , any suggestions?
@@phatridesgarage3760 TE connectivity ,Deutsch make HDP connector - in various PIN arrangements. So HDP20 as an example. Top of line would be auto sport connector these are metallic but will hurt the wallet a lot more.
