Guys have come a long way from never hearing Master of Puppets to discussing the riffs between King Diamond and Mercyful Fate. Keep rockin my dudes!
with Dave...
Love it! Representing Vegas in all the right ways.
Good point..
Real
most righteous dudes. rock on
King Diamond. Acquired taste. Like or dislike he gets respect for his talent.
Speaking of Acquired Taste... Leprous!!!
@@shapeshifter7676 Yes. I just looked to Leprous. They are good.
That is true and while I immensely appreciate some of his music, I've always found his vocals somewhat funny.
Totally agree
Mercyful Fate / King Diamond are some of the greatest bands of all time and probably one of the reasons and influences why your favorite metal bands exist in the first place.
The ENTIRE "Abigail" album is a win cover to cover.
Fucken 'A right
One of my favorite albums of all time. So great throughout
House of God was always my favorite. But DAMN I love his entire career of music.
If I had one album to take to the moon, Abigail would be that album.
It's no THEM, but it is a winner for sure ;)
King Diamond and the band musicians professional masters! Andy Larocque gigantic guitarist
Didn't Andy play guitar in a Death album ?
@@emilwahlroos5570 Yes. He played some great solos on Individual Thought Patterns.
Also Denner and Sherman ❤️
I only just started getting into King Diamond. I was already familiar with Andy's guitar work from the one album he did with Death. He's a fantastic guitar player
Trapped in a Corner!!!
King Diamond is the Stephen King/Edgar Alan Poe of heavy metal!
That's a perfect description
I wish he'd write some stories/novels. My brothers love his music, but I love the lyrics. He needs to write some books.😎
Somalia Gullette It would be cool if a good horror filmmaker turned this or another of his songs/albums into a movie.
he is also the only true satanist in metal
Perfect
Andy La Rocque. Riff master and crazy soloist. He even played lead guitar on the Individual Thought Patterns album by Death.
His guest solo on "Cold" by At the Gates is one of the greatest metal solos of all time
This
Yesss! I love both King Diamond and Death. Also Merciful Fate.
I thought his named sounded familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it.
Death is a band they need to do.
Savatage Hall of the Mountain King!
Mercy Fate and King Diamond’s bass player was also in Savatage.
I think they would love the groove in Edge of Thorns.
loved strange wings
Streets album was great! Another underrated band.
I like the Mercyful Fate "Don't Break the Oath" Album, the best.
a dangerous meeting is soooo good
Don't Break the Oath is a WONDERFUL album!!!
Its even better on mushrooms
@@federicoconsales250 Anything Mercyful Fate is a masterpiece. King Diamond is my idol
The scariest album I've ever heard....
Alison Hell by Annihilator, great story behind the lyrics, a mistery...
Annihilator is so underrated. They're by far one of the best thrash metal bands from the 80s.
Jeff Water is THE king 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Yes!!!
I agree
I was writing the same comment ahahahha
Abigail is fire. The whole album. The band is amazing. His best lineup and story
King Diamond is not a he.. its a BAND ;)
like danzig and ozzy.
King Diamond is a super nice guy, and an incredible talent.
And I love that he is a real satanist and not a fake like others in metal
not bad for a mediocre Danish footballer eh?
I’m a black guy. Heard this for the first time in 1987, when a high school kid (headbanger) gave me a copy on cassette when I was in 7th or 6th grade. LOVED this song back then and love it now. CHECK OUT BLACK HORSEMEN also by King Diamond! SICK SICK SICK riffs. TRUST ME.
Same year for me. New high school, one of the headbangers invited me to smoke a joint after school, and played Mercyful Fate Melissa for me. Wild, I was blown away
I've been a metalhead for 12 years. I'm a black guy as well..mixed.. Native American, British and Portuguese.. Metal is beyond skin colour. I'm mostly into the heavier stuff.
Please check out, Archspire- Golden Mouth Of Ruin
Loathe- Gored, and A Sad Cartoon (Vocalist is black)
HAARP MACHINE- Elder, and Nadir
I live in LA and it's so cool seeing black or Asian or Latinos in the scene, metal has no boundaries and it feels good seeing appreciation from all types of people. Keep rockin bro and keep the scene alive 🤘
Think of King Diamond's concept albums as the musical equivalent of Hammer Horror films.
with a smidgen of musical 'opera' aesthetic like Phantom Of the Opera
And then we have Puppet Master, which is a sad love story. An album I love, but Abigail, Them and Conspiracy are just Unholy!
@@MrLagzy classic albums are... classic, but Puppet Master is unique in terms of music, concept, sound
And I like that he includes his Satanism into his albums
The whole album is a MASTERPIECE. By the way, it has a LOT of prog elements.
It's King Diamonds finest hour to this day.
Melissa already had them... those guys were truly pioneers
King Diamond has been called the man of a thousand voices, and has been called the greatest metal singer in history. Nobody has more range then him. All of his albums are concept albums. He tells ghost stories like Steven King writes horror novels. He also always has really incredible technical musicians in his band. If you guys ever get a chance to see him live go, he sings exactly like this live, no lip syncing, no auto tune.
Seen him live twice, incredible.
King Diamond - Eye of the Witch and Mercyful Fate - A Dangerous Meeting
Love dangerous meeting. Even the girl from hell demo one is sick
10:50 has got to be one of my favorite reactions to anything ever
Guys please react on Savatage’s Hall
Of the Mountain King. They are most underrated and the best band ever.
Love me some Savatage. I think ya boys might enjoy that one.
Jesus saves too!
Sasuke Uchiha definitely. Savatage are incredible. I’d love to see how they’d react to a vocal counterpoint in a track like Chance
Noah Simon yes! Hall of the Mountain King and then some When The Crowds are Gone!
@@Hawksandlagers When The Crowds Are Gone would be great too! Easily my favorite song by them.
Tickle me Elmo voice. Fell outa my chair. Long live the King!!
It's almost like a challenge. Maybe I should do that?
Your comment made me look like a crazy person as I read it wi my head phones on in a bar. Hilarious
Also sounds like Mr. Bill from the original Saturday night live!!!
Mercyful Fate - The Oath
Annihilator - Crystal Ann + Alison Hell
Judas Priest - Stained Class
Opeth - The Drapery Falls
Emperor - In the Wordless Chamber
Massive second for Alice in Hell- MASSIVE!
Micheal Denner and Hank Sherman say "the Oath is the greatest song King Diamond ever wrote.
The whole Abigail album is a metal opera really. It's best enjoyed when listened to as a whole. Listening to the whole album is a great experience.
Agreed, the same can be said about the album "Them"
@@northernredneck1593 I've always liked Them a lot, but I felt Abigail has a better production. The Them production just felt thinner. But Twilight Symphony has always been my favorite song off the album. I don't know why it gets passed over for Welcome Home so much. I even like The Invisible Guest more than Welcome Home.
Savatage - Prelude to Madness/Hall of the Mountain King
Good choice !!!
Old school! Upvote this!
Great pick.
Hell yes. DO THIS.
YES! YES! YES! Love that song!
Other song from the same album "Abigail" you need react guys is Black Horsemen, a masterpiece
That To Me Is The Best Song In That Album My All Time Favorite
Deadly omens.
1777🤘🏻
NO family Ghost is the best song
The album is FIRREEEE
Me: They will never cover this song.
Lost in Vegas: Hold my beer
Now go for Sleepless Nights by King Diamond! The riffs in that are extra nasty
Yuss!
Yes?!
THEN LET US MAKE YOU AN ETERNAL DEAL
Hell yeah!
King Diamond has a 4-octave vocal range and masterful control over every bit of it.
A2 to G#6
4 octaves is awesome and all, but his delivery is the issue. I own King Diamond albums, but damn his delivery at times is just awkward.
I'm a hip hop head, but I also grew up on metal. King is still one of my favorites. The musicians are 2nd to none
Andy LaRocque is an insane guitarist. Saw King live a few years back and he just shredded. KD was and still is the most unique metal artist out there. Like or not, he has an amzing imagination, a killer band and his live shows are awesome. He gives you a SHOW, not just standing around looking down at his shoes....
I just saw King Diamond live at Hellfest last week-end, and they pull out one hell of a show! Very theatrical as you might imagine.
I was there too was nice to hear something off the eye plus that new song was cool
This concert was killer, and they played some unusual songs. Awesome experience !
@@vladimirurss other bands play....manowar cancel
I'll be watching them this August in Stockholm a week after Wacken (which I'm attending too)... SO FUCKIN' STOCKED! \m/
@@toxikavenger9088 If I could torture Joey DeMaio right now...
I for one, really appreciate you guys doing the research you did. Great!
For the love of God, give the King some respect for the insane vocals he got! That's not an easy task at hand. It's unbelievable!
There is NO wrong with how he is singing over the riffs, it's progressive and technical. If he were to sing along with all the riffs, it would just be simple and dull.
So many good songs on that album, but a Mansion in Darkness is one of my favorites. King truly sounds like a banshee in that one.
Best track by far.
I've been a King Diamond fan for well over 30 years. I guess I acquired a taste a long time ago... The Invisible Guests and Sleepless Nights are two songs I'd recommend.
Both good recommendations.
The Eye (though not many people's favourite) has some great songs too. They'd love the melodies and riffs
Lies from Conspiracy doesn't get enough love for being awesome
@@stevekozlowski5963 Lies is a favorite of mine as well.
Valagnar “That’s what the day is for anyway!!!”
King Diamonds voice is definitely an acquired taste. It took me awhile even though I was raised on the genre and my ears are used to “metal vocals”.
Baroness “shock me” next would be killer!
Maybe easier to swallow for us that grew up in the 80's. Thrash, speed, heavy, rock, glam all had bands with high pitched vocals... King just took it a little higher. 😆
Yes to Baroness!!!!! Tourniquet would be a good one also
I'd love to see them react to that heavy-ass riff in Isak
Many people wont listen to him due to him being a satanist either
I fell in love with his vocals as soon as i heard them on the oath
King Diamond is most definitely an original voice. An acquired taste for sure. But aside from his voice he has always surrounded himself with crazy good musicians.
This drummer was ridiculous, surprised that they didn't comment on him
I bought Mellisa decades ago not knowing and my first time I was like “What”?!!!!! Lol. He’s such a great singer but different.
His stage presence is massive... I saw him with Mercyful Fate in 1993 in a little club... freaking unbelievable
So did I flotsam and Jetsam opened for King. King walked by me about 2 feet away and I got goosebumps.
Still massive seeing Mercyful fate last year. Blew up the show over Kreator and Midnight.
Guys, I'm a hip hop/metalhead:
Abigail was the album that got me into King Diamond. The album is amazing. The lineup is the best they've ever had, the last song, "The Black Horsemen" is still my favorite King Diamond song ever! Y'ALL NEED TO PEEP THE BLACK HORSEMEN!!!!
Ps, the lyrics are " Abigail I know you're in control of her head" (not her brain)
:D
I have been a King Diamond fan for 30+ years. My absolute all time favorite artist. It's so fun and refreshing to see your reaction and respect for this band. I really enjoy both your takes on some classic horror metal.
You're doing great work!
Check out "Black Horsemen" from the same album. King Diamond always had an eye for the most badass guitar players 🔥
Definitely agree👍🏻
Damn, that title brough memories... now I have to search for Fatal, Abigail, and Them... Conspiracy and The Eye are good too, but a row below, imho...it has been more than a decade since last time I listened to those, about time
"Jonathan must kill Mirium" you could see the atmosphere there changing from laughter to sheer tension between them. best of Diamond!
Wouldn’t say I’m a hip hop head but I grew up on it but I listen to everything.
This is hard. I like his voice as well. Not sure if it’s playlist but I’m liking this a lot. The instrumentation is 🔥. Not mad at this at all
At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
I always get a great laugh watching you two comment on my favorite metal songs. Thanks:) Keep up the good work!!!
I saw King when he played this album front to back. It’s like watching a play.
Thank you for finally doing more King Diamond!
Definitely love the guitar riffs. King Diamond has a unique voice. I'm definitely a hip hop head but I listen to more metal music thanks to you guys
they used to play this single a lot back in the 80's. This is what got me into King Diamond and yes, it took a while to get used to his voice. This album as a whole is a real experience and worth a listen. It's awesome as a whole. It builds up to this song
These guys in 2019 are listening and critiquing a song that came out when i was listening to as a teenager... Over 30 years ago. I'm trippin'.
"Black horsemen" best King Diamond song imo
That is a great song.
The portrait and the candle
It's the best on that album at least.
Black horseman brought me to tears the first time i heard it. utterly beautiful, brings so many emotions from within so glad u love it too !!!!
Yup theyll love that 1
Rivers Of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name ( Music Video ) I wont stop requesting til ya do . I know you guys gonna dig it :)
Agreed that shit is incredible, they're gonna be like....wtf is that a saxophone? Lol
Agree
Finally a request for some good death metal!
@lost in Vegas , I’ve subbed to you guys for quite sometime. Love your videos. Because of you guys. My music taste has branched out quite a bit. Thank you. Thank you for covering the king! Looking forward towards your upcoming videos! Keep up the great work 👍👍👍
You have come a long way from when you started. Great work, keep it coming!!!
React to beyond the realms of death by Judas priest!!
I cant believe they haven't reacted to this yet.
This NEEDS to happen!
czcams.com/video/65gr4MNmIKs/video.html
@@wastelander1015 thanks, just listened to it. The version of this song on the 'live in London ' with Tom Owens singing is also kick ass.
I said that months ago n got 8 likes... but good call ;)
Savatage In the Hall of The Mountain King or Morphine Child
Hall of the Mountain King for sure as an intro to them
New York City Don't Mean Nothing
Thank you for trying more from King Diamond. I'm glad you guys liked this one. That was def my favorite video so far. It's cool to see you guys discover good metal. I'm glad you did the intro explaining the story too. I think you would enjoy the entire album if you liked this song. You're right about King Diamond having awesome riffs and telling scary stories. Great drums too.
I´m a big King Diamond fan and I think it´s great to hear what people who is not used to his sound thinks of it. Keep it heavy!
Years ago, I heard a story from somebody who said his band opened for King diamond. He said he went backstage and saw King diamond sitting in his underwear playing Madden. It could be complete bullshit but the mental image is hilarious.
Eddie Garcia god I hope he was playing Madden in his face paint 😂
Flotsam and jetsom toured with him and saw him on the floor of his hotel room surrounded by Black Candles doing a satanic ritual
“A Dangerous Meeting” before you leave Mercyful Fate behind. You will never forget it and I know it will be added to your playlist.
he's "acting" through his vocals & lyrics,, vocal dynamics & delivery,,,,then classically charged gtr riffs
I am a old school rock and rap head very recently become a big metal head and I love this song ahahahaha no shit I think this is some underrated awesomeness
King Diamond is great in Room 24 by Volbeat.
And Michael Denner, one if the guitarists for King Diamond/Merciful Fate is great as a guest in 7 shots by Volbeat, which also has a guest vocalist too, the guy from Kreator. Both great songs, and Volbeat is one of my favorite bands too!
King diamond - Arrival
Best king diamond song with lots of groove
This Song really stuck, I love you guys, and your channel, spent some nice time virtual hangin' out witchoo guyz - Really love this metal riff groove and high forced phalcetto screams with dark fantasy themed cryptic storytelling.
haven't watched in awhile,,,you guys terms & descriptions have come a long way,,,,it's like you've learned a language, or different musical dialects of music,,,I can really tell it in the metal songs you cover,,,i know this one really well,,,,you're gettin off where you're supposed to bros,, KING DIAMOND is no easy listen for just anybody,,,,,keep it up!,,,,,& yeah, his friggin band rocks hard,,,awesome players
Love KD (no not kraft dinner)..You guys really need to be slayed by some great classic metal!
Judas Priest...”Dissident Aggressor”........”The Sentinel”........”The Rage”
real science great suggestions!
1. He changes his voice for each character that is being portrayed in the story
2. Invisible guests is a very accessible song so go with that one.
david paulson the chorus is epic. King Diamond is the only person on earth who can make tea time with grandma sound badass and evil
Ryan Kats right you are! Love the king!
SLEEPLESS NIIIIIIIGHTSSS
He uses different voices for different characters within a song, and its similar to where individuals have different cadance of speaking so I always felt this is what Diamond does. You have to condition yourself to King
KMJ, YOU Hit the nail on the head!!!
I love that you guys can really appreciate talent in all shapes and sizes, and the fact that you guys being rap heads can see a certain beauty in a group as niche as king diamond is awesome man. Props Ryan and George!
Mikkey Dee on drums one of the greats
Andy La Roque baby!
Love this vid... As a "hard rock/Metal enthusiast" i could NEVER get past his voice.. but Andy's guitar work is so good... that I just FORCED myself to ignore the vocals.. and at some point, i just understand they are what creates a HUGE part of the emotion of this album... and now I cant imagine it being any other way...
I love watching you guys and the passion you all have for music.
And this explains why Abigail was not in the patreon poll! Haha! I'm not expecting good things, but I hope Ryan has a little more fun with this. He just seemed sad the whole video. But it doesn't matter if you hate it, just laugh at it! (Edit: WOW! Was not expecting playlist from both of them, not after how poorly they received Welcome Home!)
Love King Diamond, btw, but no one who is a fan expects anyone else to like this stuff. It is bizarre, without a doubt :D
Epica, the Cosmic Algorithm, of course!
Hip-Hop head/Country head/Metal head 🤘🏽
Country nu metal tunes🤘
Same here 👌
I'm loving you guys more and more each time i watch your uploads. You go point for point on songs and really explain your feelings. And that is what music is about. How it makes you feel. Abigail was a frying pan to the face for me. I didn't get it at first, but hearing it a few times, I loved it. Thank You both for this, you are going to be Stars.
An absolute magnificent album. Masterpiece. Killer that you did a reaction to this song. Keep it up!
Annihilator - Alison hell, please
There was a rumor going around for years that King Diamond lived in a haunted Danish Castle.
In actuality, he lives in Dallas! Texas
Frisco. Right next to a pastor
You looking for RIFFS? ICED EARTH - "Dante's Inferno" (Alive in Athens)
Dude, yes. All day long...
yass
Riffing? Iced earth - stormrider
I just blasted this a few hours ago
The entire Alive in Athens set is just amazing.
Ryan: the more you listen to WELCOME HOME, the more it will possess you!!! 😈
I think you're ready for King Diamond - A mansion in darkness
Behemoth - O Father O Satan O Sun
I do believe they would appreciate the lyrics especially the spoken word towards the end of the song
Jam Sena
I’m thinking they’d like The Left Hand ov God more...or really anything off The Apostasy album
The best part of any videos you guys do is watching the true joy as you discover different music.....it’s amazing in every way....
I absolutely love to see y'alls reaction to this!!! I was listening to King when I was 13... I'm 45 tomorrow, and it's still some of my favorite music. I like everything from Hip Hop to country, and classic rock to metal so I have a wide range of musical love! Cool to see the variety of music you guys review! Keep it up 👍🤘😁
you fellas are my favorite... I love King Diamond so much and to see you fellas checkin it out makes my heart so warm... you dont have to love it... but to give it a chance just makes my insides smile... thank you sirs...
Accept - teutonic terror
Angra - angels and demons
Extra vote for Angels and Daemons
both yeah
Abigail brought me here and now I just subscribed to you guys. Nice. Always loved this song. For the record, I love Metal, Hip Hop, and Country
always appreciate the extra thought and lyrical observations, not just knee jerk reactions. Keep up the great work !
*KING*
I love hip-hop, country, and King Diamond. :D
Ahhhh I freaking loved king diamond in high school. My friend Aaron dressed up like king diamond for Halloween and I did his makeup. It was amazing if I do say so myself.
I hope you'll do Sleepless Nights. I REALLY DO
EvilForgemaster Yep
that's a great song BUT I think Family Ghost would be better
Guys, you MUST review Suite Sister Mary from Queensryche. Also, please do Harlequin Forest from Opeth. I swear you both will love both. Love the channel.
Queensryche!!! They loved Queensryche, so I don't see why they don't do more reactions
Suite Sister Mary only really has an impact if you listen to the full album.
@@shmick6079 that's a good point
By the way, "the guy" narrating Thriller was Vincent Price, one of the most beloved classic horror actors of all time.
...And he's from St. Louis!!! Loved Vincent Price from my childhood!
I love your guy's videos.... Yes, King Diamond's voice does take a bit to get used to hearing, but given the narrative of the song, and understanding and comprehending what he is saying and talking about, I found out long ago, how easy it was to learn to love it. Now I don't hear what I used to dislike about his voice. Now I cannot imagine another voice, or him singing it any different. But yes, an acquired taste for sure. But once you acquire it, it's almost addictive when it comes to this type of music.
This is brilliant..you guys are great!
Accept - "Fast As a Shark"....where many believe speed/thrash metal was born.
Overkill by Motörhead??
Ace of Spades??
Nah man in my opinion Motörhead was where Thrash/ Speed metal was Born they were the dirtiest n fastest band in the Late 70s man
@@jayfeelix2168 no question Motorhead was the first of many things..but as far as the model for Metallica, Megadeth and others..the twin assault of Accept was the time in music history where it all came together. Motorhead was always more punk to me than metal honestly.
Mmm ok I see what u mean true Motörhead didn't get metal metal til about 1993 when they Released Bastards
Nah man, 'Sweet - Set me free' did that sound 10 years earlier.
Loved that you guys did some King! A favorite from my teens. Very dramatic and cinematic, maybe the most dramatic metal band ever. King is always telling a story and setting a particular mood. Gotta keep that context in mind when listening. And the vocals do grow on you when you listen to it more deeply. VERY difficult to perform correctly. Operatic level skill.
If another song with King D is to be reacted to, look deeeeeeeply at Sleepless nights!
yes!!
Yes! What a great song!
Martin Dahl Nielsen Yessss
This, Burn and Eye of the witch
I saw king diamond on graspop last weekend, his voice never gets old \m/ such an amazing show to!!! And keep up the work guys, never get enough of your video's 💚
