This device claims to be able to sterilize your phone and kill bacteria using UV light. But how well does it work? I decided to test it out myself.

The PhoneSoap is a device that uses Ultraviolet light to sanitize and sterilize your phone, claiming to be able to kill bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens. In this review, I test it for myself, and do a science experiment to find out how well the PhoneSoap can kill phone bacteria. I used petri dishes to find out how much bacteria was on my phone before and after using the phone sanitizer. In the end, I did find that the PhoneSoap clearly worked, and was able to kill basically any bacteria that was on the phone before.

As always, I am taking recommendations for more stuff you would like to see. I've been toying with the idea of a series almost like "Your Dumb Comments", except having to do with the latest tech news or something, and with must less autism.
That would be interesting. Do you mean comments taken from tech articles?
Also what about TNN or weird news, but more tech oriented? Like strange and funny tech news stories.
ThioJoe is this a real video or another fake? I don't want to destroy my phone
thio is real now
hey thio, how bad would be the exposure to this light? i mean, the power inputs are pretty low, is it actually dangerous?
Funny reviews would be cool. (As in, you review it, but in a joking fashion- not to be confused with your joke videos.)
hey Thio, I remember about a year or two ago Samsung said they would start using special antibacterial properties in the materials that they used to build the phones. this might be why we're not seeing bacteria on the phone, but we're seeing bacteria on the case because it's not a Samsung products with that feature
So... He made jokes to have 1 million subscribers and turned it into a serious channel?
He said he's going to do a mixture of both, rather than having one channel for jokes and the other for serious topics.
He decided to do that because it's what he enjoys most, it means that most of the people that watch his content will genuinely enjoy it, if that means he loses subscribers, that is unfortunate but he isn't forcing anyone to stay subscribed.
Great idea to test the bacteria! Top quality review man, keep em coming
1:16 Ah yes, I was familiar with UV-A and UV-B, but not UV-C \s
how about UC-Ds?
University California Davis?

As a biology student, I must say I'm quite surprised with how little bacteria grew on your petri dishes. People in our group of students had more bacteria in an actual sterile environment during practicals than you had in a situation with a lot of opportunities of contamination. Maybe the bacteria didn't have quite enough time to grow or lacked something. Then again, the result was quite obvious so I'd say there is a pretty good chance of the thing actually working. Makes sense if it's UV-C. Interesting video!
+Count Summon Yea it wasn't in a proper incubator, so probably just didnt have ideal conditions
The device turns off automatically. However UV-C can't harm electronics.
amazing review bro very interesting and detailed, liked the idea of making your own bio samples makes it more legit and fun to watch keep up thio!
I don't see why everyone writes "1st" instead of writing something interesting
1st reply.

Great work, awesome video! The film quality, but mostly the backdrops for the tables, made the video look really nice!
I'm here because of coronavirus
Me too
Oh shiet we all hea to try an prevent us from get it lol 😂
I bought one from Essential1ST worked really good. It was on sale for $45 It does wireless charging also.
Same. I did get one even if there is no definitive proof it helps with covid-19 yet it does help with a lot of other bacteria it's a good thing to have even if times weren't the way they are 😂
Mostly for cov facemask.
I just wanted to say I love your new none troll videos they are really interesting and fun to watch keep it up man. :)
loving the new real type of videos man, keep up the good work👍
expected a fake tutorial :-(
Valkyier911 too bad
Valkyier911 it fucking says review
you think this is real? That UV device melts aluminum, try to put your phone in it and see what happens after ten minutes :)
what can that melt aluminium
jirka merunka wtf... no they don't!
Great video, love the scientific approach you used, I'll even consider buying one of these. One thing though, I'm a bit concerned that the UV-C might degrade the AMOLED display over time.
Video and experiment are done and structured well, this is almost like a good guide to experiments for a school project
I really appreciate the effort you put into this video. great video as always theo!
I really liked this video. You should do more experiments like this one.
I love your tech videos Joe! Keep them up!
Congrats on 50 subscribers!!!

Can it clean rotten fruits ? Also does it work in india ?
moh
looool
HaXz Wolf but does it work in india pro
HaXz Wolf ok thanks to u , thanks to papa thio
not recommended
HaXz Wolf i think indian company minhdv is better
I was expecting you to be using one of those devices where you swab any surface you want, then put it in the device and it gives you a reading of the bacteria count, though as you mentioned yourself I believe, the results in the end speaks for themselves regardless of if you used a device to get the results or not. And thanks for reviewing this product, I have seen it before and was skeptical to how good it actually was, and didn't want to buy it because I have a tight budget. But now that I know it works, I might consider buying it :)
Help me! My Iphone 6S has Ebola Virus
Hello, I have this question: Many comments of Phonesoap on their website aren't good. It has been 3 years since the posting of this video, does it still hold up?
Joe you're so smart, insane video idea!
It would be interesting to see the difference a simple Iso Alcohol wipe would compare for the case vs the UV light.
This is great to see, especially since I have one :)
huge fan of your videos man.
I would rather say he looks smart and quite intelligent .
What would happen if you place the bacteria in the containers into the Phone soap?
Or better put. How effective?
Yeah
This is a really really good video. Great job.
Could you please tell me where you got the lamp you have in your videos? Really like it and can't seem to find it anywhere.
Clever CZcams ideas. Your awesome!
For the record, as of today, 5/23/2020, Amazon shows this particular model of PhoneSoap as "CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE, We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock."
I'll have to update the link. There is a new version which is probably why
Great video Thio!
much better content I love the new videos
I miss the old videos, not going to lie, thiojoetech was meant for videos like this
Yeah :(
Every video is tech now. At least before some videos were trolls, others were reading dumb comments, and then others had more funny stuff. Now every video is solely tech. He claimed that the channel wasn't headed in a new direction as he's always done tech videos, but that's not true at all. Just look at the video list, real tech videos were not why this channel became so popular. I've tried a few times to reason with him, even to the point of just asking for some comedy like he promised, but I think this channel is done.
I thought for sure he would see how dismal the views are for these new types of videos for this channel, even TNN (Thio News Network, which I liked) got more views than this. I warned him ahead of time to make sure he's got money saved up as a million people didn't subscribe to this channel for real tech reviews. Yes, there were many who did for the free stuff angle, but not as many for the lol factor and the style in which he trolled those who thought they were real.
If he's ok with have over a million subscribers, but only getting 15k-30k views per view tops, by forcing tech videos on a channel that didn't subscribe for that type of content, then I guess there is nothing more we can do. I gave up trying to compromise with him (ok well one last shot at it here), as this is the third video now with no comedy since my last reply. Reminds me of SquareEnix, who never listens to their fans and just does whatever they want and can't figure out why their sales suck.
When did this vote take place? And who is this majority? I'm looking at views as the indicator of what people want to see. 9 videos without any fake videos is too long. If people wanted real tech videos, that's what the tech channel is for. This is like a bait and switch now.
The truth is, even the old videos didn't get many views compared to my total subscriber count. Unless I made the same fake tutorial or some random clickbait, I couldn't even hope for 50k views. If I'm not going to get many views, I may as well do what I enjoy. Obviously a lot of people subscribed, but not many people kept watching, which is a problem. Real tech videos are infinitely more sustainable for a myriad of reasons, and I am now considering the long term (5+ years). Obviously I'm not blind to the risks, and I know that in the short term (even many months out) I'll see a drop in views. However, I am not thinking in the short term. And ChaosX, know that you as a viewer have a very limited perspective, and there are more factors that went into my decision that you can even imagine. So please do not go around acting like you know what's best for my channel.
ThioJoe I never claimed to know what's best for your channel. I am giving you my perspective as a long time viewer and subscriber based on the information available and the thoughts you gave. If you describe a long time viewer's perspective as very limited, then how do you expect to connect with your audience?
All I asked for was some comedy, the reason why I subscribed and liked your videos.
Joe this was an amazing video :D
Great review. Thanks thio!
Nice idea for the phone cleaner where did you get it from
good video
I would bet the cracks on the side and the grill over the speakers had the same result as the case
I will probably swing for one of these
good job BTW I could tell you enjoyed the making of this video
Good job. Very informative. Subscribing on this channel.
So... do I need to buy a couple of those to sterilize every physical object before I touch it?
also it looks like the back of the case had several different types of bacteria. very interesting video thank you.
how to transfer steam games to Xbox 360
Did you use the same swab for all of them? I can't see you changing them...
Everybody gangsta till that 1% bacteria survives.
Haven’t come across your videos in years. When did you pivot from satirical tech videos?
+ThioJoe
I have a propblem when I double-clicked on every old app it's said to me "the app was stopped working" plz help
I'm that Nuke bacteria
I learned something about uva uvb and uvc light today. ty :)
I love these UV lights so much now I sell them on my site. Ive made some videos about using UV lights to disinfect at home also. Thanks for this great vid!
I came here for UV sanitation, stayed for Michael Cera.
Great advice. Are the UV sanitizers doing what they say and kill most bacteria? I hope to find one for children. Any recommendations/knowledge? blessings,
Hi, the Amazon link isn’t working and I can’t find the exact Phone Soap you tested. Do you have another Amazon link so I can purchase this exact model? Thanks so much
congrats for 1M subs.
UV-C was discover recently in the space mission Director F12 on mars 2013. China created a new type of living cells, then they saw this was dangerous and UV-C was only a prototype. We tried C30Z8, a strong decontaminant and it didn't work. From the space ship, they could turn on or turn off these UV-C lights so they did. The operation was a sucess. Whoever is wondering where UV-C spectrum comes from, it's the shattering of light against a really dark matte pellicule. This is the story of UV-C light mates.
Biology student here, I cant necessarily hear what you're saying but a few things i noticed is that you had your bacteria in petri dishes that are in ziplock bags. if you had these bags closed no air would be permitted and that could be one reason you had low levels of growth on your phone. also taping your petri dishes would also prevent oxygen into the petri dish which would kill bacteria. If you didnt do this disregard this message i cant hear what youre saying because im in class lol
Even though I think this device is useless, because having bacteria is not that big of a deal (your body is constantly riddled with it, inside and outside, and it can fight off bad bacteria pretty easily), i still enjoyed the scientific experiment of this video.
Interesting review but would you recommend using this device and what would be the case if you aren't using it. Getting sick?
If he's using it as his daily driver of course he recommends it.
I would have liked to know why I should be using this device. Besides there are so many other stuff bacteria is on why would it help if you would kill them only on your phone.
Olá, este produto já está disponível no Brasil?
When you phone needs tanning
they put silver pins pins in phone screens, silver kills bacteria. high end sports base layers sometimes have silver threads
My science mind is yelling this entire video saying this is not a actuate science experiment
Would it be a good idea to wipe your phone after nuking it with a clean, moist paper towel or a clean microfiber cloth? That way, you do not have a bunch of dead germs on your phone.
first rule of the internet: DONT FEED THE TROLLS! was it that hard?
when u feed a troll = thiojoe
Reminds me of this video I seen, of this lady leaving containers etc out in the sun. Saying it cleaned them.
Cheaper to buy a UV LED Nail Lamp. Got mine for 20 bucks. Same UV wavelength. 80 bucks or 20 bucks? your choice!
This actually looks real, seeing as he didn't make any jokes, and it seems to be mostly sound science
What to do when my phone get viruses
That was a cool invention almost like the iPhone fan plug in before is screwed my phone up pretty bad,but I did get it fixed so that's good.
Hospitals and water treatment plants have used UV-C for years so the tech is proven for years. This version takes 10 min. to sanitize whatever you put in there. You can put your watch, jewelry, glasses, etc. It does not harm them. I have been using this device for a couple of years now. Well worth the investment.
Haha your channel is about fake tutorials which I love but I got so used to it I couldn't tell if it was real at first, but this vid was actually legit :P
Bacteria" Another excuse for not answering my phone =)
Can this damage my phone's ambient light sensor?
Is it safe to touch after though?
*can work it moon in.. question is that the*
"Kill viruses" seems legit.
It seems REALLY legit now!
I really am still confused what the detotated wam is! Please help me!
Do the cameras on a phone get damaged the UVC light?
You have to test it 3 times to make sure it’s true that is a science law I learned about in school
Instead of doing that, you can use rubbing alcohol to clean your phone.
So would you recommend uvc for my n95 mask? Ty
what material used in the case is an interesting for replicating technology
Huh... So yellow specks are what bacteria looks like
Yeah, I wouldn't use one of these if you have an expensive phone like an iPhone 11 Pro, with an OLED Screen. OLEDs is what they use in super expensive TV's for 4K and under. Now they have QLED for 8k but I don't think we will be getting that type of screen on our phones until like 3-4 years now.
Drop that skin care routine 😤
Can I use the phonesoap with a charger cover on it I have an iPhone 7 Plus.
Should have done few more tests after like a week or so of the sanitazion to see if they'll just come back immediately. It might work but it's still pretty useless if it goes back immediately.
Guys can it damage the speakers of phone? Yesterday I started to use but something happened to its speakers today.. sounds like as if there is parasite or something..
1 phone soap 50 bucks,50 alcohol swabs 1 buck. ThioJoe priceless.
Will this give me cancer?
HA I bought this right before coronavirus and I get the last laugh
Thio when you do a tech review you should give the product a mark out of 10
Ever notice you come down with a cold or worse after going out to eat at a cafe? Well try your test on the table...
why not use black light?
is there any device to sterilize CZcams?
Nice test.
Nice job maaan 👍🏼
I always wanted one of these......IN MY NIGHTMARES!
I know that every video in this channel are fake but I like to watch it
