- This video is about 2019 F150 XLT work truck with 3.3 and 6 speed. I do a brief walk around but spend most of the time discussing the drivetrain and illustrate what to expect on a morning commute to work. This a great work truck with some smart features like 4x4, extra large 36-gallon fuel tank, reverse camera, great paint choice, useful productivity screens, and sync, etc. For approx. $40K out the door (or less) this truck should get it done for many people while being reliable and efficient along the way.

Single cab short 3.3
Quiet smooth and 23.5 gas mileage.
Amsoil 100% synthetic runs like a beast.
NO ISSUES WHAT SO EVER.
so, I need truck for long time and which one is more reliable 3.3 or 2.7 ?
2019 with 3.3 and it is horrible. It constantly stumbles and misses and it has on numerous occasions had no acceleration, leaving a light and it will not pick up speed. My fuel economy is 15 in the city. I should of got the coyote. Oh I need to add it only has 44,152 miles

@@tedjones112it’s pretty much a pedal commander. I got it off Amazon. Just makes the throttle more responsive
No turbo engine for me it is only trouble in time, the 3.3v6 is a great choice lots a power and good fuel economy.
mrnovacan our ecoboost has been great. The torque down low is really nice. Makes it feel like your not even driving a truck.
@@FishFind3000 Great you enjoy the turbo boost let us know in 50,000 miles if you have no issues with it ,all the best I drive fords too, :)
Agree!! I have 2018 and love the gas mileage
@@FishFind3000 Honestly, how’s that ecoboost been??
Great Review!!!!!!!!
I love these base engine reviews and tests. I had a 2012 F-150 XLT SuperCab with the 3.7 and l loved the truck. I didn't have one issue with it all all for the 6 years that l had it. If i keep the speed to about 68-70mph, I'd get 23 mpg worked out by hand. It was a great truck. Too many people discount the base trucks because they just gotta have all the latest gadgets. But the base truck is awesome from my experience.
that blue is absolutely gorgeous.
i have a 2020 xl with 3.3l and 6 speed. Great work truck couldn't be happier.
I have a 2018 xl super cab 4x4 with the 3.3. I’ve got over 25 mpg with around 800 lbs. in the bed. Couldn’t believe it. Love that truck.
Hey, how do you think this truck would do towing 8k to 10k 3500lb loaded camper from va., to fla, to texas each year?
I love my f150 super crew, the 3.3 is nice and quiet and it cruises well.
Great job on your informative video. Thank you for taking the time to show others the Ford F-150.
That was the same color and body configuration as my 2013 F150 XLT 5.0 4x2. I now have a 2017 XL (I got messy kids) 4x4 2.7EB and it’s an awesome truck.
I too have fleet base XL white 2018 3.3 long bed reg cab. I love it but what a Great design on the SDs I hope to have one some day, love ford great vid thx for doing a review !
I have a 2016 regular cab 2wd for my business work truck and absolutely love it. it has about 65k miles on it no issues only tires and oil changes. Only regret I have is not getting it in 4wd. well, its time to get a new truck and looking at the 5.0, or the same 3.3L with 4wd. We don't ever tow so we don't need anything to crazy. But this I an super reliable engine and all the research I have seen supports that. I love Turbos but for a work truck, its just more things that can go wrong.
I like V-6 trucks. I bought my 2012 Chevy 1500 new (and still have it) with the old iron block 4.3, 2WD, ext cab and I've towed with it and worked it like a truck. Keep in mind that back in the day 1 ton trucks had six cylinder motors with less power than these. It won't win many races but very reliable and decent fuel mileage. LOL I drive an 18 wheeler so I'm used to going slow.
My 19 super duty has been in the shop over 45 days so far for electrical issues. Step on brake and airbag malfunction light comes on (airbags will not deploy while light is on) and HVAC turns off. Front two windows and seat heat/cool becomes inoperable and bottom two headlights turn on. Let off brake and all returns to normal. This time around, it’s getting an entire harness from front to up inside the tailgate. I’m in for the 4th time with this same problem. 22,000 miles currently. I’m gonna be going Lemon Law on this one.
My grand marquis' and Towncars all 4 report accurate MPG. My Chevy that I had and Kia both were 2.5mpg optimistic.
The naturally aspirated engine and high mpg is very attractive.
I have this truck with the chrome package extended bed with the liner beautiful truck excellent performance for the price 2 wheel drive though... but still no issues
Got a regular cab 3.3 . I absolutely love it. it is smooth!!!!!
I go 5.3 hunting in my rcsb 3.73 rearend. I've broke a couple hearts all ready!
Ive got a reg cab 3.3 also! Dont see many of them and its a great work truck! Pulls my mowers just like my 5.4 did.
I do not regret buying my truck. It's faster than I thought. Got 2 Chevy 5.3's under my belt. Sport mode brings it alive!
@@tweetybird2059 sport mode it only shifts faster kind of thing?
Remember the engine was designed to rev. The trans will hold lower gears to keep the rpms up in the sweet spot. So when you do get on it. Its get to max torque quick
I keep my trip 2 running between oil changes. every 5k miles it averages 22.5 to 23 mpg over those 5,000 miles.
I have a 2019 3.3 extended cab XLT and tow a 20 ft. Camper with no problem don't even notice it. It's a fantastic truck.
How much does the camper weigh? Considering a 3.3 for towing my Jeep
@@mmiller1188 if your jeep and trailer combined is 5,000 lb or less, you’re good to go.
I towed a car and trailer that was hitting between 6500 and 7k recently. Not an issue. Couple hills made it cry but over all pretty smooth.
Great vid! U can go a lot lower on price and options. Xl and stx come to mind. I agree 3.3 and 6 speed r great combo
I still love my 2020 F-150 XLT. 3.3.
48km on it. Needed a new check valve on my vacuum system. (So far)
But other than that. It’s the BEST
@@GobRogandid 2020 go to the 10spd?
Update from 7 months ago. Love it. Did the IWE delete. Just plug the vaccum lines no issues. Did that 3 months ago
83k miles changed spark plugs, installed 2.5 level kit and Fixed my IWE delete. Average 22MPG
Just bought a 2017 4X4 short bed regular cab with the 3.5 non turbo. I think they went to the 3.3 in 2018, but anyway I'm very happy with it. Plenty of power for day to day driving and will tow when needed. I do notice the downshifts but don't mind.
I plan on buying one too!
I love this engine and trans combo! That’s just enough truck for me. Cruise a/c 4x4. That’s all I care about. Cool truck. How has your expedition treated u guys? Been a little Leary of all that new tech
I agree...that engine and transmission combo is on target. Ford definitely gets powertrain related performance dialed in. I am at almost 27,000 miles on the Expedition. It's nearly 2 years old. Not a problem yet. The Hankook tires are getting worn though so I'm in the process of replacing those. They are getting pretty slippery in the wet and wanted good rubber going into winter.

3,000 rpm is not that high, bud.
Great review do those come in black interior
Thank you so much for this review. I just purchased this vehicle last week. I just have to figure out how you put the computer onto the mpg mode.
It is a great truck!!! Enjoy!!!
Thanks for the video. What were your rpms at when cruising on the highway at 65/70 in 6th gear?.
Nice truck , have a 2003 Super crew , with the 5.4 triton , love the truck , it does not get nearly the gas mileage though .
Good job great review
I have a 2019 F150 XL super cab 3.3 and love it. Bought new for just over 27,400 and has the 101a and chrome package. Also the Blue jeans color.
Btw I have that in 4x2, same configuration except supercrew all priced at 29k.
On the way home with my new 21 3.3 10speed 2wd regular cab long bed 355 gears 50 mph 33.5 MPG. Then I tried another trip local to me 45 mph 37 MPG.
I work at a ford dealership in Center Point Iowa and we have a base base base model with no options 2019 f150 2wd for only $25,000. Brand spanken new truck. How crazy is that.
Seen some 4x4 with extended cab and not stripped for 28k on sale. Base v6.Seems a bargain. Think it has more power than my 09 4.6 v8.I paid 28 for it in 2008.
And I’m betting for a resale value these base trucks are one of the best ways in 3 years to capture money back.
About 33.280 $ in CAD (base base base model) Québec city.
Rumor.Im betting you feel that the v6 power is plenty?
@Rumor & Innuendo How much does the pontoon weigh? I'm thinking of getting one with this setup in.
You have a 36 gallon tank with a super cab? I have the same truck ford said I couldn’t get a extended range on a 3.3 super
I have the 2019 with the 3.3l and it has been great so far. I usually average 20-22mpg combined city and highway.
Only had mine a couple of months but my current average is 21.2mpg. Loving it so far.
1 year and a month with 21100 miles. I average 22.8 . All my driving is in the flats though.
Brandon Peet hey man. How reliable has your 3.3 been?

Does your guys f150's when you let go the gas the number thing jump up to 6 gear ?? Then when you accelerate to go faster does it rerun to the gear you where going at example 3 is that normal is your guys truck doing the same thing??? Anyone?
Also, great looking truck!
What is the gear ratio? That will make a difference in the trans shifting down.
My 2018 with 3.3 v6 extended cab 4x4 is perfect couldn’t ask for a better truck would recommend to look into one especially for the price
Hows your truck these days? I'm thinking of getting one.
Donald Crosley it’s awesome can’t beat a ford

25.4mpg if you want to save 21 mins of your time.
Ford has the 3.5l duratec that nobody ever talks about
I need the cheapest trim reg 3.3 4x2 reg bed. Steelies I can just replace.
I have the 2017 base model, 3.5 non- turbo. It's totally adequate. It's slow to accelerate, but it tows pretty impressively. I would definitely recommend unless you plan on pushing the towing capacity on a regular basis. I'd be interested to try the 3.3
Hopefully you have had a chance to get educated on this subject. In the last 11 months 😂

Does the 3.3 have an timing chain driven water pump or is it external?
external on the F150 internal on suv's.
I added a throttle controller to mine. Made a worlds difference
Have a link for that?
Amazon link
Anyone using the E85 in their 3.3 liter?
Where is the water pump located? Is it external belt driven or chain driven like in some other ford models?
Good question...I am not sure.
Im researching can't find any information. I'm looking at 2015-2017 model's I don't want any 2018+ because of the 10 speed. Only model i would consider is the 3.3 as long the water pump is not chain driven inside the motor.
Just found it is in fact belt driven. Only front wheel drive applications have the water pump chain driven which is stupid imo of Ford.
John Hill That makes sense. This is one seriously quiet engine when idling. Thank you for the info!
Do you recommend the 3.3 with the 6 speed transmission or the 10 speed transmission?
10
Do you think Ford will pair the 3.3 with the 10 speed?
That seems like it would be a great combo for mpg.
I hope they never do. That 10 speed is a joke, I gave back my 18' F-150 after 11k miles and too many visits to the dealership. Its a dangerous transmission that put me and my family in danger and is currently the subject of a class action lawsuit. Ford is trying to keep it quiet but they are shooting themselves in the foot with this transmission co developed with GMC. So many Silverados snd Sierras are also getting recalled. Even the Manager of the dealership agreed with me , he himself had to give back his brand new Expedition after only 6k miles! Get the 6 speed auto or put your money somewhere else.
John, thanks for the 1st hand advice!
Now that I know this, and also how I’ve heard how others have been so happy with the 3.3 and 6 speed combo, it seems like the sensible choice.
Jason Shockley
I’ve also heard the same from people that the 10 speed was rough.
Just bought the 3.3 with the 6sp ....seems like a good choice so far from all the reviews I’m seeing
I traded my 2018 RC with the 5.0 /10 spd after 11k. Engine sounded like a diesel and 10spd terrible in town. All 2021 F150's have a 10 spd.
2021s only
Does your 3.3 have different drive modes like sport or toe mode or wet and snow mode
This truck was a loaner for me...I don't have it any more. Sorry.
Yes it does
My last 200mile roundtrip at 65mph I got 26.6 on my xl 2wd
How do you think this truck would do towing a 3500lb loaded camper 8k to 10k a year from va to fla, to texas?
@@joracer1 I tow loaded car trailers all the time and it does just fine.
@@joracer1 i have a 2018 3.3 and tow our 3800 lb trailer. Usually dosent get out of 5th gear. Towing in any altitude sucks. 11.5 mpg

Thanks I decided to get the 5.0 or keep my truck and spend some $$ on it got to do something this year...
If your Leasing yeah go with the EcoBoost. If you're purchasing naturally aspirated all the way. The EcoBoost are disposable more expensive parts to eventually wear out they run at a higher temperature excessive heat is the absolute enemy of a internal combustion engine. You want that engine temperature just enough to burn fuel efficiently. Both engines have direct injection which can cause carbon buildup on the top of the valves which means cleaning every hundred thousand miles. No need to do it on the EcoBoost about 300000 it's done new motor time. With a well-maintained naturally-aspirated you'll probably get half a million miles out of it.
Can you get this exact truck also in super crew?
Yes
180k on my 2019 xlt 3.3. Zero issues. I average 19.1 with 32.6 inch tires and a leveling kit.
Your truck is a great example of how good this engine / transmission combo is!!! Thank you for sharing!
I have the same truck. What maintenence have you done to get that mileage?
I've had mine about a year and a half. I bought it with 37k miles on it, now it has 73k miles on it. 3.73 gears, I averaged about 19-20 with normal snow tires. I just put on BF KO2's, dropped at least 1 mile per gallon, but it's well worth it. Much, much better ride. Mine calls for 10 ply tires. Does anyone else have to put 10 plys on? No issues, yet.
3.3 is nice so I've read..
2018 CREW 4X4 XLT 3.3 LOVE IT UNTILL I HOOK MY WATER TRAILER TO IT. IF YOU DONT TOW ANYTHING I RECOMMEND THAT YOU BUY ONE. AS SOON AS I CAN FIND A 2021 2.7 ECOBOOST WILL PROBABLY BUY IT. DEALERS DONT HAVE ANY TRUCKS.
Hey... do you know what’s the real towing capacity of this truck?
I only had that truck for a few days last year. But it should be around 7,600 lbs for conventional towing. Here is the 2019 F150 towing guide. www.ford.com/cmslibs/content/dam/brand_ford/en_us/brand/resources/general/pdf/guides/19Towing_Ford_F150_Oct25.pdf
Unfortunately the 10 speed is not a long lasting transmission the 6 will last forever if taken care of properly
You can get the 3.3L in 4x4?
Yes
Not a basic F-150, you can get an XL for a lot cheaper.
Very true...I agree. A few weeks ago my wife and I had both of our vehicles in the shop. I got a 2019 F150 XL and she got a 2019 F150 XLT. Mine was nicer than hers in several ways...and it was $1,000 cheaper on the MSRP. Should have made a video on those 2 trucks.
91 OCTANE & k&n air filter. & watch her fly...😎
15.5 is a alot more realistic number than 20. I drive a 2019 equipped the same on a 64 mile a day commute.
I get average 23 and 25.5 hwy.
I am considering the 3.3 and want to put a 1000lb camper shell on it plus 1-2 people and stuff. I don't need a drag racer, I just want low initial cost and good efficiency. (suspension upgrades aside) Do you think the 3.3L will perform efficiently carrying a regular load under the max payload?
You should be good the truck has like 250 torque almost 300 horsepower
It will be slow but capable.
Cbskwkdnsl Whanznamdm not the 3.5
RB Jynx I own the 3.5, it is an absolute monster
Cbskwkdnsl Whanznamdm I’m sure it is I’m talking about the base v6 don’t go to crazy 😝
There's no way that was a 2 or 3 degree hill. 2 degrees is a 3.5% grade and 3 degrees is a 5.2% grade. You would definitely be able to tell if you were on such a steep grade. At 5%, you'd be able to roll down hill at 60-65 mph with no accelerator or brake. Trying to go back up that hill you'd need a serious portion of the available power to accelerate.
45K for a base engine? hell no.. if you need basic, you can get one for 30 out the door. even the 2.7 is only 600 dollars more
He's quoting the MSRP. In the real world, this would be priced from 32k-35k, perhaps even lower around holiday times or sitting on the lot more than 120 days.
It's possible to see this around 29-31k on a good day.
Um where is the 250?
If your duty is not that big you need more fiber
I'm thinking about the F150, but your problems have me concerned.
I don't foubt the engine and transmission are great, but that price is high! I got an XLT with the 5.0 for much less....
What u lack in mpg u make up in horsepower. I got the 2018 3.3l but I’d rather have the 5.0 for the horses. Also, I kinda thought the 5.0 was more expensive. Idk hmm
Only way I can see a 3.3 being good is in a fleet of work trucks, easy and cheaper to maintain than an ecoboost and the fuel economy. I had a 3.3 super crew f150 as a loaner while I had my Fusion getting warranty work done. As a Coyote (Mustang) owner, and ecoboost owner (Fusion Sport and my Raptor) it wasn't too bad of an engine! Would I buy it? No, but in all honesty its all engine anyone would really need. That said! for, I think, $900 more you get a 2.7 ecoboost and the 10 speed, which is a no brainer
Hankooooook 😔
You are right! ;)
45 visits over 2 years on your Super Duty. Wow!! At that point I would be looking at a Tundra for reliability.

I have a 19 that looks identical. There is no way it gets 20 per gal. I call bs
3.3 does get better gas mileage than all the other engines. Maybe 1-2 gallons better. Not by much.
All that it’s normal for a FORD I just don’t understand Ford lovers
Don't buy a pickup for fuel mileage.
Very true.
Buy a 2004 toyota Echo for that 😂
@@m.morininvestor9920 True...that would get better MPG but you could never do all the word a truck does. When trucks like the F series are the best selling vehicles on the road for so many years MPG does come into play for many people but I get your point. If the sole focus in MPG a original Honda Insight 2 seater might be a good choice. Thanks.
I bought my 5.0 for both. Tows 9,200# yet it gets 23.8mpg down I-95 in Florida all day every day empty. No one in their right mind would pass up a more efficient truck all else equal. You sound like one of those tundra fanboys trying to defend their bullshit 19mpg on a good day.
