I bought the Chris Ward Trident 300 around Christmas after much deliberation. It’s about as flawless as I could have imagined. It has an original case, unique hands, fantastic clasp with on the fly microadjust, and it’s a thin watch. They really considered all of the details when designing it.
Thank you for your input, Bryan! It certainly is packed with features and at such a great price point. It is pretty hard to beat. In case you did not see I just posted my solo review of the CW. Enjoy that awesome watch!
@@WatchDanReviews will do. Thank you so much. Keep up the great work!
What size did you get? I am looking at 38mm.
@@HamishCarpenter I went with a 40mm
@@bryanthebryan2638 My wrist is 6.63" what size should I get?
CW is just amazing. As a JLC owner, I wasn’t really considering these brands when I was looking for a dive watch, however when I finally got the a CW C65 Aquitaine GMT, the dimensions, the finishing and the design easily beats BB58, Pelagius 39 and seamaster 300m. 😂
Have the Silence Service ordered. Love everything about this watch. All the points you made, swayed my decision. Tried to look at other watches, but the Silent Service kept calling to me. I emailed them to answer John why i ordered it, 10 minutes later John replied. My God, what other watch company does that. I am completely happy and comfortable with my decision. Now i can hardly wait to have the watch in hand!!! Thanks for the effort on the review. Very appreciated!
For me, the winner in many respects is the CW 300. In addition to having the prettiest and slimmest envelope, which sits beautifully on the wrist and is more labor-intensive to machine and manufacture, the watch has the ability to quickly and effortlessly replace the bracelet with a strap. For me, this is another big advantage. I bought the black dial version before Christmas, in 40mm size. I have a wrist size of 17.3mm-17.5mm, and I think this envelope size is optimal. I recommend you to check it out.
Regards👊🏼
Great comparison vid Dan. I couldn’t agree more about the Silent Service-I have the date/no cyclops version. Mine is -1 second/day and I’ve been wearing it 90% of the time for the last 6 months.
That’s awesome! Enjoy that killer watch and thank you for the kind words.
Great comparison review. Putting in a pre-order (II) now for the Silent Service
Great comparison Dan.
I have a cw c60 and a SS which I only have about a month but I can't take it off! I'm memorized by this watch.
The monta is definitely on my radar also so I really enjoyed this review and look forward to the next one.
Thanks a lot, Luke! Stay tuned for my review video of just the Ginault. Hopefully will have it out tonight.
Great watch comparison Dan!!!
Thanks a lot, Tony!
Christopher Ward is the only watch brand I’ve ever had to return due to quality issue. The Ginault is simply stunning!
Fantastic collection, the blue Monta is very cool.
Thanks a lot, Joe! The blue is very nice to look at.
@@WatchDanReviews I have all 3 brands in different models
All are interesting watches, but the Monta and Ginault need something more unique, something that gives a "Monta design" or a "Ginault design" feel. Christopher Ward is finally starting to do that with their trident seconds handk and light catcher case. For a long time, CW felt like an Omega wannabe... but they are moving in their own direction now.
Also, what's really cool about CW is their new GMT, which uses the SW-300 series... a clone of the ETA 2892 movement (my favorite movement)
I have two Ginaults (an Ocean Rover 2 and Silent Service) and they are amazing watches (especially for the money) but they arent better finished than a Rolex - sorry that is crazy talk.
Not finished better than a Rolex, but I think it’s arguable that there is as much, or more, hand finishing than on a Rolex.
@@WatchDanReviews sure - Rolex arent hand finished much these days, but the difference in the hand and on the wrist in the quality is easily apparent when you compare a Rolex to a Ginault. My Sea-Dweller is far superior to the Ginaults I have. The best compliment that I can give about the Ginault is that you can wear a Ginault and get 90% of the looks and quality of a Rolex, without worrying that somebody is going to hit you on the head for it! lol
Ward.. get your all watches COSC certified, i don t mind paying extra usd 250 - 300 more for that. Tks for the vid, man.
Since they sell direct it’s a 3000 watch no dealer cost
Update: Just picked up a Ginault. So excited.
What an awesome video. I’ve been seriously considering all 3 of these are my first $300 + watch. The Monta has been my #1 pick because it’s the most visually appealing to me, but I wish it wasn’t so much more expensive than the other 2 options, as well as it being the longest lug-to-lug. I have a 6.25” wrist and don’t know if I’ll be able to fit into the Skyquest.
The main wrist model for Monta is 6.5" wrist. The design has changed a bit since this video as well.
Great comparison. Does Ginault only make black dial watches? I only see black as an option on their website.
Nice to see a comparison videos of divers in similar price range and quality.
I have a Monta ok, cward mk3, ginault OR2, and am awaiting a ss so I'll be able to see first hand the similarities and differences. I love each piece though.
They are all excellent watches!
@@WatchDanReviews I agree. I enjoy each one of them for different reasons. Do you find yourself gravitating towards one over the others?
I gravitate toward the Ginault for sure. I find it to be the have the best combination of features of the 3.
@@WatchDanReviews atm I'm the same. I think it's also because I've had the monta the longest and it's a definite keeper (for sentimental reasons) so I don't reach for it as often.
@@ryan850r the Monta is an excellent watch. I will keep mine for sure! Unfortunately I’ll be without it for a number of weeks while my off centered bezel is fixed. So unfortunate it slipped past QC!
Great review. I want CW design with Ginault build quality. Subs were never my favorite looking divers.
the CW c60 mk3 black is an AMAZING watch that I think wins against the Monta Oceanking black and the Ginault Silent Service black...but you didn't compare these 3. The inky black dial, the 42mm size, the great bracelet (that I do wear all day without a problem), the refined hour markers. Whatever. It's obviously subjective. But for me this is the CLEAR winner at about $800. If you could get the Monta and the Ginault for $800 as well, then maybe it would be a closer call...but at 50% more (or an even higher % difference), it isn't even close!
Sounds like you should have got the 38 or 40 mm version of the CW.
Perhaps! I will try to get my hands on one and test it out.
Doesn’t change the fact that the bezel is ratchety sounding, flat clasp.
the silent service is a (copy type) of my omega seamaster pro OR is the way to go in my opinion ...enjoy your review ✌️
I completely agree I actually did a comparison between the three on my watch review channel and came to the same conclusion Ginault hands down
They’re all great but the Ginault is a cut above!
@@WatchDanReviews exactly 💯
Basically the bracelet is a Rolex super clone bracelet
It’s not quite there-the biggest gripe is that the glide lock is a wee bit gritty and the bracelet squeaks a bit when it’s shaken…you’d never see that in a Rolex. But ya it’s definitely a Chinese clone of a Rolex bracelet, and the one thing I wish they’d done on their own, but it would have become a $2,500 watch if they made their own bracelet.
Great collection, great brands! Unfortunately, I had to return the CW as it had a stuck rotor after its 2nd day...
Thanks a lot, man! I’m sorry to hear that about your Ward. I’m guessing that’s not a super common occurrence. I have never had an issue like that with my Ward. Now legibility, that’s a different story…
@@WatchDanReviews the stuck rotor was something was happening with some models for a short period of time. Seems like it was resolved and haven't heard anything like that with the new models.
@@ryan850r That’s unfortunate, Ryan! I’m glad they resolved the issue. Did you have a 38, 40 or 42MM CW?
@@WatchDanReviews I have a c60 Mk3 trident. Perfect size for my 7" wrist
@@ryan850r that’s a really nice looking watch. How’s the comfort level?
Excellent comparison of three beautiful watches. Absolutely would love to have all of them some day. Recently bought the Monta Oceanking in blue after watching your review video convinced me it's a stunner, looking forward to seeing that dial in person when it arrives. Also been looking at the CW Trident 300 for months, probably the best value for dollar. Their light catcher case, bracelet and clasp all look top notch. You introduced me to the Ginault Silent Service and now it's on my radar. The layout of the dial is probably the cleanest of the 3, the bezel and case are pure class. The bracelet and clasp are definitely the weak points. 100% certain The Ginault clasp is the exact clasp you can find on some Ali Express watches under $80, I'm not talking crap, it is actually a decent clasp. I've purchased Ali watches for SKX mods and some had that exact clasp, I was actual surprised by the quality especially for the price. The Ginault, CW and Monta are all winners, congrats on your collection.
Hi! I'm looking for the monta oceanking blue/blue too as my first monta, let me know if you end up selling or want to trade it off!
The Ginault clasp is much higher quality than the $80 Ali express versions. I’ve compared them. The Ginault clasp/bracelet really is spectacular.
I've never had a monta or ginault in hand but I do own a CW. Going by your video, in my opinion, the CW case is the most appealing, while the Monta has the best bracelet and the ginault has the best bezel. Being from the UK I can pick up a CW for pretty cheap but the Monta is much more expensive.
The CW case has the most faceting and interesting angles. It also hides the case bottom and makes it look far thinner than it is! It’s a rad watch 👍
@@WatchDanReviews I own the Dartmouth which is in the more vintage style case. American brand watches are hard to get used over here so they are much more expensive.
@@waynesellers4078 how do you like that Dartmouth?
@@WatchDanReviews I have the version 1 (pull crown no fauxtina and old logo) it's a great watch and cosc which is a bonus. I would say it's the perfect blend of dress diver and tool watch and I prefer that it has no crown guards.
@@waynesellers4078 right on! I would say post pictures but CZcams does not allow. Wear it in good health man!
I wish the Ginault was using SW-300 for that price.
Also, for full transparency, you should disclose any discount you may have received for reviewing the watches.
I know that Ginault offers a big discount to people who are willing to review it.
Even bigger discount for reviews with comparison to other watches which is what we see here.
The SW200 when fully regulated is an excellent movement. My watch is very, very accurate. And I received no discount for doing my review. I paid full price for the watch and did the review entirely on my own. I did ask if they would do a discount and they said their margins were too thin to give a discount to every person who reviewed their watches and that they had stopped doing that a while ago. Hope this clears it up!
Edit: it’s just a really great watch.
@@WatchDanReviews thanks for the clarification!
The accuracies of SW-200 and SW-300 are the same.
The main benefit of SW-300 is longer power reserve. That would bring it a bit closer to the big house watches in that regard.
@@kelorednaxela No problem. The 6 weeks of regulation is the real kicker with the Ginault. But a heavily regulated SW300 would indeed be that much better.
The CW has the Sellita SW200-1 movement, not the SW200. No, it's not the same thing. The teeth on the ratchel wheel, ratchet driving wheel and two reduction wheels got changed, and the SW200 got upgraded to SW200-1 around 2008.
Thank you for that clarification, The Gorn!
Rolex replica without being a replica
Zodiac super seawolf would have been great 4th watch for this comparison
Obviously
I’ve had my Ginault for a few months now. It’s outstanding I figured for $1k it would be similar to other $1-2k watches and wow, i was blown away. The quality is amazing. If someone handed it to me and told me it cost $5-7k I would think that was about right. I really haven’t worn any other watches the past few months.
Totally agree, Jedi!
It's interesting that you kept saying "like a Rolex". There's substantial evidence that the principals of Genault got their start building Rolex replicas. No judgement from me. It's up to each consumer whether that matters or not.
Appreciate your input, Carl!
What matters to me is how good the actual watch in hand is and I’ve never seen anything as good as the Ginault for anywhere near it’s price. Not even at double it’s price. Omega beats it in the small details and movement quality of course, but you’re at $5k at that point.
@@Jedi391 I should do a Ginault Silent Service vs. Omega Seamaster video, huh? Maybe my neighbor would let me borrow his.
@@WatchDanReviews Definitely.
Buy this watch it so much to offer. Does not fit and uncomfortable , but buy it anyways
Thanks for your input, Jim 👍
It's evident Ginault didn't want to just create a watch brand and sell watches, they wanted to make watches and it shows.
Well said, Zypang! Thanks for the comment.
Sounds like you like the Ginault the best. Curious would you recommend the date and cyclops? I am thinking about giving the watch a try and was not sure of no date, date, or date with cyclops. Thanks
Date with cyclops would be my choice. Second choice would be no date, no cyclops, but then you have a ghost position. Go fully loaded or go home I say!
How often do they have sales? I haven't seen any in many months
Not often. In fact I had trouble getting any watch companies to send me any watches for review. So now I’m only reviewing watches as but them, which is a slow process because they’re quite expensive. Also I just haven’t sold any of my collection in quite some time! But thanks for checking in 👍👍
Rolex clone bracelet
CW is just insane
Good video. So… “the finishing is more than a Rolex”. Between 18 and 19 minutes. Ummm… That is a big statement. I wouldn’t argue it, because I don’t have first hand experience, but that’s a big statement to say that. I enjoyed your video. Good job. 👍
There is no jaged edges on this watch!!
Which watch do you mean?
@@WatchDanReviews I commented on the wrong review lol
Ginault is made in a superclone factory. 😂🤡
Really? Have you been there?
Ginault is definitely on the rise! CW is my pick all day but I’m going with the mid size. I’ve owned a Monta and honestly, after the honeymoon phase passes, I found it to be ehh. Good watch but way overpriced for what they’re charging. Should be more around 300-500 USD range.
The Christopher Ward is by far the best. The Ginault is made in China, not the USA.
Thanks for your input, Frank! Just out of curiosity, what are your sources?
It's common knowledge. Google it, CZcams it. The controversy is common knowledge.
@@frankdirscherl2345
So no sources, got it.
@@driller7714 well you can google: exposing ginault’s illegal past, and a Reddit post should detail all the evidence of it being a fake Rolex brand that switched to making “homages”. I couldn’t imagine they make anything in America. With that said, lots of people are aware, and don’t mind, so long as the quality is great.
Ginault has a much to busy dial. Not good looking. Plus a horrible deal-breaker cyclops.
Of the 3 - CW tops.
BTW, CW comes in 40mm with 20mm band which is lighter than your 42. Might work better for you.
Thanks for your input, Checkmate!
You can get the SS without a cyclops. I just ordered the no date version.
