Can't understand how this lesson can be disliked. Cesar's style reminds me of the greats from the past. He successfully combines post-modern techniques with classical techniques seamlessly.
Probably all of the cubists ;)
They are the ones, who can't paint a ball and think they are the biggest artists :D
Maybe because the pose is wrong, with 3 main errors ... the neckline is out of alignment, the head is not turned enough nor is the rearward tilt sufficient other than those failings, I enjoyed his description and will continue to follow him but I did find those errors annoying!

@@lyndonbaxter7399 You misunderstand, that’s the difference between classical realism and hyperrealism. He isn’t drawing from a photograph where everything is a whole lot easier to get accurate.
I have absolutely no intention of ever in my life learning to paint like this, let alone a portrait, but I still watched this entire video. i work in science but the arts are so important for me to have balance in my life.
I knew Caesar was masterful but I have a whole new appreciation of his work after watching him move a mouth nose and eye. I can so relate!

Cesar Santos is the best contemporary artist, along with Andrew Tischler, but Santos has the high excellent quality of the old masters, while Tischler is more contemporary.

Look, Cesar is a great artist and i bought the dvd long time ago, but honestly as a decent painter myself, personally i didn't learn much from his dvd or anyone else's. Maybe it's just me but the only way i have ever learned is by doing it myself and failing on my own. You can learn about preparing a canvas, about materials, about the whole process but the application of paint is going to be different for everyone because every person paints based on what their eye tells them and how every person interprets color, shapes, tones, shades, details ect. Then it's how you apply the paint that gives everyone a "style look", the amount of paint on your brush, the kind of brush, kind of paint, the kind of surface, how much medium, how you layer it ect. You'll never have his eyes and he'll never have your eyes, this is why your painting will never look like his and vice versa. Nothing wrong with that, were all different. There's only one Rembrandt, one Velazquez and one you. Take it with a grain of salt and just paint, that's how you learn, watching videos a thousand times won't help you from 3 times.
I agree, but there are some valuable videos out there that I can guarantee you’ll learn something from. For instance “Marco Bucci Color Harmony”. He’s a digital painter but the way describes colors is definitely an eyeopener. His entire “ten minutes to better paintings” is golden.

Well, you gotta remember he tried hard every single day 7 days a week for several years. Same thing with those olympians. None of them try hard a little here and there, but every single day, all day long. No stop.

Great video, just wondering how he is going from a dark colour to a light colour back and forth with same brush? Is video edited to cut out brush washing to save viewing time?

I couldn’t count them but let me share a story.
I lost total vision in my dominant eye in an accident. ( blow to head) My eyes were covered (both) for about two weeks.
The tape came off and I had to learn to adjust to new light. My wife takes me to the Hollywood Bowl. Thousands of people. Lights all over. It was fireworks night.
When fireworks went off I had these millions of stimuli coming at me . The sound ,the colors.
In a short period of time I went from total darkness ( eyes covered for two weeks) to total mayhem of light and color.
Cezar is unique in that he may be one of a few that might understand what I went through at the Hollywood bowl that night.
These classes are amazing. Unfortunately in Brazil the price for them is equivalent to buying a 40 inch samsung tv.
I've been following Cesar's work for years and I'm a fan, but I can't pay for a DVD lesson,
because of the huge difference between the currencies of our countries.
