  • We’ve had almost a week now of Manor Lords gameplay and discussions on videos, reddit threads and discords and there are plenty of people who love everything Slavic Magic is delivering with the game and cannot wait to try it out for themselves & naturally of course there are also loads of people who are put off by what they see, underwhelmed by the lack of some gameplay mechanics & features and are calling it all a little bit overhyped.
    Over 2 million people have wishlisted it so there’s a lot riding on Manor Lords no doubt about it. In this video I want to talk about 2 important factors that a lot of people who are underwhelmed by what they've seen so far seem to be missing. This is an EARLY ACCESS game all made by ONE DEVELOPER. Today I want to talk about why those two key points are so important and how by understand the humble beginnings of the game & how far it's come, you may appreciate what Manor Lords does and it's future even more.
    I really hope you enjoyed this video and found it informative. Drop a comment with any thoughts or questions & subscribe for more Manor Lords content, gameplay and news just like this! Thanks for watching!

      That's because there's a point at which expansion of the company starts tacking on more and more extraneous positions that are not about the game-making. It's like schools and hospitals having tons of administrator roles and less doctors and teachers. At some point you just get to having administrators administrating administrators, or PR teams giving a British comedian a free Egyptian vacation for PR for your dramatically overpriced and underwhelming Total War game, heh.

As Total War veterans we claimed it would be a kick in the teeth to CA in which Manor Lords battles at under 1000 troops is more immersive than Total War games with the same number of troops. CA battles haven't progressed much in 10-15 years. This game proves it.

    Thank you for posting this. So many Total War youtubers (you included, if I'm not mistaken) have been saying that this game is the one to finally put Creative Assembly on notice and provide some real competition to Total War. And I've just been over here confused as hell because it looks more like it falls in the same genre as Stronghold and Medieval Dynasty. It's a city builder. A very good looking city builder, with some cool-looking combat, but definitely not competing in the same market as CA and Paradox.

    Well said. A lot of gamers tend to build this image of what a game is going to be based on a few screenshots and clips. And when said game turns out to be something different, they lash out and all of a sudden it's the dev's fault for not giving them what they 'deserve'. Personally, I am/was in the camp that hoped the city building would be supportive to what would at its core be a grand strategy game. As it is now, it looks like it's the other way around, and there's nothing wrong with that.....
    Even if this is what it is, it will be something that shakes up both the city builder genre (which has become quite stale if you ask me) and shows the (grand) strategy genre an alternative. At the very least this is a showcase or proof of concept for new directions to take city building and strategy gaming.

    I hate that it even gets mentioned with total war, they are almost completely different. It’s a real time city builder with limited 3D combat. Its focus is city building and management not combat. Like you said where the individual is the focus.
    Total war is turn based empire building centered around combat, massive battles. Where the individual doesn’t matter.
    People saying it’s like total war are doing the game a huge disservice. Sure it has 1 element that is kinda like Total war, kinda. If you could zoom all the way in on total war to the town level, the granular level, this is what you might imagine you would see. If you zoom all the way out in manor lord and go 100 years in the future you might get a total war like scene. When your little town has grown into an empire.
    So excited for this game but I hope the people expecting total war do their research and if not and they are disappointed, don’t take your lack of knowledge out on the game.

    To me it seemed more of a Settlers competitor maybe more like settlers 3 but I’m just echoing Worth A Buy aka Mack’s video on it but i think he is right and I don’t believe he even mentioned total war in that video. It’s also releasing on pc gamepass for those who wanna just try it.

    Even if it isn’t a TW-killer, it still offers some measure of competition. And hopefully, that means that the industry will improve.

    I am going to purchase it during Early Access because I enjoyed the demo a few months back, and because I honestly believe Creative Assembly needs some competition, and finally the cost is peanuts for me.

    It looks really good! However the hype train is strong, the game should focus more on city building, and court intrigue, the combat and military is passable. Having an avatar on the ground is nice but without interacting with anything it becomes useless, its not mount and blade so im not expecting the avatar to fight.

    @TheTerminator, what a great review. As always your honest. This game looks so appealing,but im going to need a P.C to play it. I get all the stuff about there being one developer and it being work in progress. Its a great story too and makes me buy into this game. Also, it's brilliant how the community are involved. That will make the game grow to be a true master piece over time. The title of your video is "Manor Lords is a city builder NOT a total war killer". I love city building games and total war. Do you think over time it will grow to have bigger maps, battles the size of total war and a mechanical engine an indepth interface face such as crusader King's?. Imagine all that rolled into one would create a true game we all dream of. I imagine modders will get involved in this project and be able to bring that to us. Look what many talented people have brought to total war. I would imagine maps will also grow over time and then possibly add different geographical areas like tbe middle east or
    Greece etc. Do you think this is the vision of the developer?

    • @TheTerminatorGaming
      @TheTerminatorGaming  Před měsícem +1

      I think that anything is possible to be honest. This isn't a Total War killer, but Slavic Magic has a lot of passion for what he's making and he wants to build Manor Lords into a game that is replayable and fun. I don't think it will ever be something as grand as Total War or Paradox games, I think he's trying to do something unique and special within the genre, which is why it's captured so much attention. I WOULD LOVE mods to take the game into new settings! But we'll see what the future holds :)

    Buying Manor Lords in early access is no difference from buying a AAA these days. The only difference being that Manor Lords is transparent and up front about what you get for your money. And with a much greater chance of further development and delivery of whats promised in the future. And ironically also in its current state despite smaller in scope, more of a complete game already than many AAA titles are even years after release.

    It's brilliant - but you know unfortunately there will always be the haters and the nay sayers. This could be Greg's biggest problem - look how it affected Cities Skylines 2 - and that was a whole dev team getting dispondent due to player reaction to their the distributor. Mind,Manor Lords is clearly stamped Early Access. So, lets keep our fingers crossed that he rolls with it. I have utter admiration for his hard work and vision. If it sells well he can hand pick some assistance to polish the edges and get it to version 1.0 in short order. A fantastic base to build upon. Regarding modding - I would rather the core structure was polished before letting anyone vandalise it. I wish him and any future company that is born out of this game fabulous success. Needless to say, I can't wait to get my hands on it.

    Ya I think that was the only sad realization for me that this game wasn't going to be competing with Total War. Now that's not to say the game doesn't look amazing and I'm not excited, because it does and I am. But when I first heard about this game I was hoping it could be a game that really pushed CA to finally start putting some passion back in to their games, and get back on track by giving some competition to the Total War series. I have come to terms that this game will probably not do that though, which I can accept. So I'm just going to focus on what this game delivers, and I really do think it will be a fantastic game that I'll never be able to put down 😂

    • @pl-AthEE_Three
      @pl-AthEE_Three Před měsícem

      It was never meant to, though. Originally it wasn't even supposed to have combat. Content creators have been doing this game a massive disservice from the start. This has always been more of a Stronghold/Settlers competitor than anything resembling Total War.

    I became very careful about solo devs or even teams of less than 10 people. Even if they get cash flow it doesn't reinforces proper development after. People can get money drunk like Valheim guys. Or if it's solo dev he might get some hiatus from development.
    If you haven't already I recommend to check Soviet Republic. - THIS is a city builder I never experienced before (on realistic). With some core issues that now can't be fixed this game still is really really something.
