The most difficult part is getting that top bolt. I think also not having a lift would make this even harder. I was able to get a 13mm socket with extension to the top bolt under the AC compressor. You can see the bolt head from the top of the engine so once you find it guide the socket through then you can clip on your ratchet. Once it was backed out I pulled it out of the hole from underneath. It is actually easier to get the alternator it back in once you have it out. It took me from about 1000 to 1400 to get the job done. Thank you for the video Haynes! 🎉. Good luck, cheers!

Just changed an alternator today. The top bolt is a fu&"(ing knightmare. Quarter drive and a lil extention. If you can crack it off a little remove the bottom 2 bolts and you can spin the alternator a little to give hou more space.

You can do it with out take off compressor is addition and not necessary costs.

By removing 3 bolts of the compressor, and removing one support of the airco tube, you can carefully move the compressor a few centimeters to the back and now the upper bold can be accessed.

This video is so stupid. When the engine is in the car the top bolt is almost impossible to access. This video shows the engine out so it's easy. Took me 1 hour to remove the top bolt and had to do it from under the car

Yes, it's not ideal. Pretty difficult to film too!

You have made a video showing a technique and tells that can not be used to do the job. For anyone attempting this it's easiest to attack the top bolt from the bottom of the car. Once u have loosened the bolt you can use a 3 inch extension with a 13mm socket on the end and using 2 or 3 fingers reach down from the top and twist the bolt out.

Can you please describe how you got the top screw out? What spanner did you use? I spent like 4 hrs underneath the car and didn't succeed for the first time in my life servicing my own vehicles. A nightmare to replace this. Removing the air condition pump is stupid as it generated a high cost of refilling the system afterwards. Thank you.

@@danke4051 I was able to loosen it while under the car by Coming at the bolt from the passenger side. Your blind but if u have someone watch from above to tell u how to get the spanner on it it'll be easier. I did it alone. Once I had cracked the bolt I reached down over the air con pump with a 3 or 4 inch extension bit on a socket and twisted it with my finer tips. I was also able to reach it by reaching down under the engine from the battery side and stretching but again I was blind as alone so just guessing where it was. Luckily my bolt was very loose once cracked and easily got it off with fingertips down the back of the Airton pump

@@sirdigbychickenceasar4474 Thank you for a all these details. Looking at the video I think my car has even more of thouse pipes in way blocking access to it (Fiat Tipo). I'm thinking if losseng the engine mount and levering the engine a bit would help... Will do second attempt soon as my alternator is very loud and can break any time.
