    • @hungrysurfer9471
      @hungrysurfer9471 Před 3 lety +8

      How many miles has it got now ? I drove one before choosing the 1.6 tdi. I felt the 1.2tdi turbo didnt start to spool up until after 2200rpm. There was no 75 horse power or any useable torque until the turbo starts working. Seriously trying to use 5th gear on 50 or 60 mph B roads was a problem because without the turbo it only has 20 hp, not 75hp. I needed to shift down to 4th gear to rev up the engine up a bit to access the boost. But doing that hurts the fuel consumption. There is a solution, for £500 you can get a full emmission delete which unblocks all the filters and pipes that feeds the turbo. This will spool up turbo from 1400rpm. You also need to adjust the fueling with a remap to match the turbos new performance. It gives you over 100hp and loads of torque low down. 5th gear becomes useable from 45 mph and up. The greenline has very long gears that dont suit the standard engines turbo not spooling until 2200rpm. This emmission delete and remap will transform your car. Id guess you would get atleast 20 mpg more afterwards. Well over 100mpg. My 1.6tdi used to get 70s mpg on the motorway. Now its 100 mpg plus. £500 would pay for itself within a year or 2.

It was a company car, 1.2 petrol using LNG, had 300k KM on the clock and was in generally terrible condition, but even so, it shocked me how a relaxed and reliable drive it was. All in all, if you don't care about the boring looks, this definitely seems like a great workhorse machine, and the 1.2 petrol + LNG combo means its dirt cheap to run.

    I've owned a slightly older Fabia and I swapped for a Volvo V50 1.6.You can find 1 just as old for a few more hundred quid(300 should do),you can get slightly better gas mileage,you get leather seats,climate control,heated seats,cruise control,heated mirrors(you can also find ones with electric seats and other options) and it is way way more spacious and comfortable (starting from seating position to even arm position),also a lot of compartments anywhere,and the seats in the back are border limousine.Also the trunk is like 3 times as big(like a minivan).It is sluggish,but so was the Fabia in all honesty.The big downside for them is parts are not usually cheap(had a pheasant jump in front of my car going 60mph and destroyed a headlight,cost me 65£ and that was cheap,replacing a mirror is like 50£ - just the mirror),second downside would be the fact that some things are made harder to acces than they should(cabin filter you have to take the fusebox apart and it still is not easy),to change the mirror you have to dismantle the whole door,they are well built but not very ergonomical when you need to work on one.

I used to drive like a nun but normally got 80mpg without trying and once got her up to 95mpg over a long run. Very simple motoring, even main dealer was less than £100 for a service and it was only the lack of an automatic that led to a car change. Skodas are great cars.

    I test drove a greenline 1.2 tdi before choosing the 1.6 tdi. I needed to shift down to 4th gear to rev up the engine a bit to access the boost. But doing that hurts the fuel consumption. There is a solution, for £500 you can get a full emission delete which unblocks all the filters and pipes that feeds the turbo. This will spool up turbo from 1400rpm. You also need to adjust the fueling with a remap to match the turbos new performance. It gives you over 100hp and loads of torque low down. 5th gear becomes useable from 45 mph and up. The greenline version has very long gears that dont suit the standard engines turbo not spooling until 2200rpm. This emmission delete and remap will transform your car. Id guess you would get atleast 20 mpg more afterwards. Well over 100mpg on the motorway. My 1.6tdi used to get 70s mpg on the motorway. Now its 100 mpg plus. £500 would pay for itself within a year or 2.

    100-200ml per full tank of quality low smoke mineral two stroke in the diesel, (synthetic 2T will fall out of solution) will quiet the engine, make it last longer, increase efficiency, clean the combustion chamber and increase power and especially torque.
    I haven't tried Automatic transmission fluid in diesel yet but if it doesn't fall to the bottom of a test jar after a few days it should be even better for cleaning the combustion chamber, and especially the exhaust system including catalytic converters and any sensors within it.
    I use about 100-200mls of ATF in the engine oil to help clean the carbon and contaminants out the engine before an oil change which works wonders.
    You can safely use the car for a few days with ATF in the oil but it will clean and diffuse so much grot from the engine it will turn golden brown oil to black as night in short order.
    I prefer to raise the oil level 5mm above the full line on the dipstick to help ensure all the "high tide" deposits of gunk are removed during the process, however, high RPM is not a good idea when your oil is slightly thinned, and when the level is above the full mark, at high RPM the crank can whip air into the oil vastly reducing the lubricity, cushioning and temperature control of the oil, and I shouldn't have to explain why that's best avoided..
    Maybe a test of the different upper cylinder lubricants and even engine oil flush products, off the shelf and DIY, would make a good upload?
