At the ATM a couple of days ago, I saw a reflection in the screen of something behind me. Instinct kicked in. I "cleared" my cover garment and had my hand indexed on the grip to draw. Fortunately, it was just a lady who's idea of "personal space" was a little skewed. When I paused, she was just over 6 feet away, coming around my truck on foot. Keep your eyes on a swivel when you're out and about.

So I immediately thought " look how his weapon snags on the pocket as he's trying to draw". However, now I realize it's intentional, by design, specifically so the holster would stay in the pocket when the gun is drawn. Nice! I'm going to have to look into this further.

I agree with you about comfort. We need to function in society. Constant discomfort impedes functioning. As someone who suffers from chronic pain, I'm aware of how much chronic pain reduces my energy. There's no point in doing something that is going to produce a constant energy drain by adding a level of discomfort.
I don't think a Kydex holster would be comfortable in the pocket, but I've never tried one. I've never seen a pocket holster with the hooks that catch on the pocket. I've practiced pressing my holster against my leg so many times to facilitate the draw that the motion is automatic. If I could find a reasonably priced holster with hooks, I'd like to try one. What I like about my current holster is that I can get the gun and holster in and out of my pocket easily without drawing the gun. When I just want to draw the gun, I can do that easily as well.

Galco has leather pocket holsters with less prominent hooks, but they do work if you follow their instruction on how to draw. If not they can come out with the gun. Everyone demonstrates holsters with warm weather attire. With heavy winter coats, you may not be able to access waist holsters or pants pocket holsters. some coats have large pockets, and you can have your hand on your gun while keeping your hands warm.
Pocket holsters are handy if you are home, and want to go outside and not have to loop a belt through your holster everytime.

We all know the guys to say, "Man I carry a full size, Glock/44 mag/Elephant Gun, etc." and if you ask to see it, it's always at home or in the truck/car. Ignore these guys. I did notice Jason that you had a knife on a pocket clip in the same pocket. Personally I recommend that you have nothing in the gun pocket, other than the weapon and the holster. Use the other non-gun pocket(s) for other stuff.

I would like to point out that southpaws (like me) would have a harder time while seated in a car The space between the car door and the human body is just too tight in most cases. I see your points, and accept them as valid--for you. I appreciate that you are stressing the importance of the right holster!
I have fairly large hands, and my experience has been that not many trousers have pockets large enough for me to get my hand in quickly, let alone have my hand AND a decent pocket gun in that pocket. Even so, I keep experimenting.
I like the P365, but I find it too small for my hands in ways that make it hard to manage well.
That said, I have started experimenting with a small revolver (that does seem to work for my hand size and shape), and am looking for an appropriate holster.

Another consideration - is some jurisdictions, being spotted carrying will get a very negative police reaction. Pocket carry allows one to more easily be the gray man and get lost in a crowd of one. The Democratik People's Republik of Massachusetts is one example. Another is New Orleans where the PD claims the police station near Burbon street is a "school" makine a 1000ft a no-carry school zone under LA law. Even the LA attorney general says this is bogus, but that will not prevent an arrest, inconvenience and probably theft of the gun by the police.

The only safe places in the world where a single woman can walk alone dressed to the 9's and not get accosted, robbed, raped or killed are Monaco, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Switzerland and all of Japan, that's it. It cannot be emphasized enough that training is absolutely critical to concealed carry or carry of any kind. Training on how to handle the weapon safely and scenario training. The time to figure out what to do in an incident is NOT when the incident happens. You need to think through and train in scenarios before an actual event occurs.
I had to attend a course to get my CCW in Nevada's Clark County. We had a module at the firing range and it was terrifying to see. There were people who were REQUALIFYING who didn't know how to load their pistol. One man had to have one of the instructors load this weapon for him!!!
If you don't train, you are a danger to yourself and others.

So, even a little gun is better than throwing rocks, IMO.

I don't pocket carry because I need the stuff in my right pocket to be in my right pocket. I carry OC spray in my right pocket because I uses my right hand for OC spray. I use my left hand for my flashlight, so I can't use my left hand for OC spray. I also have a comforting strong side IWB holster!

I'm willing to bet you anything that my draw stroke out of a proper IWB holster is faster than yours will ever be trying to tug your gun out of whatever pocket you happen to have stuffed a gun in that day.
