@@JanMitoraj Not with "a gun" per se, that variant didn't come through. Constitution allows on to defend their live with "a weapon." Which, from legal point of view, is any tool that increases the defensive force.
Well, you still need a firearm license, which takes time and money, to buy a suppressor.

You should do this as a series. Go to each major gun country, Germany, Turkey, Italy etc and do this exact format for each.
I probably will. I did that in Serbia, and it was wildly popular. Miles did a couple from the Middle East. Maybe I need to make a playlist collecting all of them.

Since black powder guns are just as easy to get as in the US (in most Countries/ Germany for example only allows flintlocks to be sold license-less) it would be very interesting to know If there are Countries where you can Carry a loaded ready to shoot Black powder Gun without any sort of burocracy.

Yes European has so many different laws and culture it creates different vibes in different countries. Here in Austria cat c guns (anything over 24 inches that isn't semi auto or a pump shotgun) doesn't require a licence (just a background check and three day waiting period) so straight pull ARs and AKs (no gas system), level action and revolver carbines are hugely popular. Also the guns you can't own in the USA are pretty popular here too with people who have licences. Open bolt Uzi and VZ61s short barrelled rifles, Chinese copies, AK12s etc.

Hi from Czech Republic, in most stores here are very kind and professional guys. Cause the gun community is quite healthier then in US or other countries (no offense) :) and the part of it, is that way, you must pass before you can buy and own firearm(s)

@@imacahguy yeah, but read the top comment - mostly points 2 and 3 - you need to get permit from police before buying the gun, then you buy the gun and then you have 10 days to register it back at the police station in your name

@@TequilaBoyCz we have waiting days when we purchase guns. And several states have gun permits. (I do in Illinois, USA) and our government is secretly already automatically registering our firearms.

The CZ brand store in Prague has by far the most "luxury boutique" feel of all gun stores in Czechia I've visited. Others have mostly normal, modern look and feel, even if they sell guns 2x the prices of CZs :)
Pretty sure they exist in the US as well. Its a question of your wallet if you get to see them ;)

Historically, I can understand the sales spike after “special operation” in countries like The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Lithuania - where the Cold War occupation memories are still fresh. Totally a foreign concept here in the US.
What did he mean by a special operation happening feb 26th? I tried looking up stuff related to that date and country, and I couldn't find anything.

We wre occupied by them from 1945 until 1993, that's when their military left Poland. Next year we were in NATO, Ukraine was not fortunate enough to get in, they would not be in this situation now...

i love the Czech republic i spent three weeks there few years ago, and i am going back for a couple of weeks this summer.
if you visit get out of Prague and explore the rest of the country. the Czech republic is so much more than Prague ( i only spent three days there) i got all over the country staying in small cities that get no tourists......i even stayed in sumperk; just because.

@@Mustang6971 Yeah, it's all under the same "Colt CZ Group" umbrella nowadays, so it makes sense to sell some Colt items in Czech CZ store.
To clarify a bit: you don't have to go to the police for the extra paper (purchase permit) at all - you can just send a message through a web system and they send it to you so you can print it. :)

Jesus is that a gun store or a Rolex boutique? That shop looks incredible. Great presentation, I was contemplating if I wanted to expat retire when my service is done, Czech Republic looks very attractive right now.
Try learning Czech first and then decide😅 for a native English speaker it is almost as hard as learning Japanese...
CZ should be proud to have an employee like that representing them.
Czech gun owner here, I spotted a few minor things that were either told wrong or were omitted for the sake of simplicity, but I gotta say that as an overall intro into Czech gun laws it was pretty much spot on and the tour itself was very professional.
However, regarding the gun categories, there's a new, quite recent one called A-I created in compliance with the EU laws which includes formerly automatic rifles converted to semi-auto. The difference in obtaining one over say a handgun is miniscule, just a different form to fill out, but basically you're asking the police to give you an exception to own one (which they hand out to everyone) instead of just a simple permit. Legal talk, not really important. Also if you want to own large capacity (20+ rounds on short weapons, 10+ on long ones), you need to fill out a different form for that, you get a single permit and from that moment on, you can own as many as you want. Same goes for JHP rounds, just another one time form to fill out.
Overall the laws are quite lenient as long as you fill out your paperwork right and it's slowly getting better, you can now do a lot of this stuff online. We often joke around that we don't have mandatory psych exams because if you can get through this bureaucratic hell without losing your mind, you're obviously mentally stable enough to own a firearm.

also also, as far as I'm concerned, you *can* technically legally own and shoot a full-auto rifle (for example a vz.58/ak47, etc.). All you need is a convincing enough case of gun collecting and, as long as you have the required safe storage needed, you should be able to get a permit
So in the future you guys will not be able to have semi-automatic rifles.

Quick story...grabbed a last minute deal to Prague a few years back, zero research or planning. Turned out to be a fantastic 2 weeks with the coolest people I have ever met. Beautiful place, and for my other Canadian friends out there...We think we are big beer drinkers? we are not, not even close.. Those Czechs are savages!!
Yeah and the drinkers in Prague are still lightweights compared to cities in the eastern part of the country, and beyond.

My New York pistol license took 2 years! My Italian pistol license only took 2 months. Many foreign countries now have better gun laws then many states in the U.S.
That shop has been in Prague for years. I first visited it in the 1960's during the Communist era with My Grandfather(Who was Czech). A few years ago I went to the factory store in Uhersky Brod (East of Brno in Moravia),and got a bunch of mags and rare acces. We also got the factory tour courtesy of a relative. The Prague store is definitely much more of a boutique.
I love the Czech Republic! I lived there for 2 years, Prague for 2 months of it and love everything about that place. Definitely need to visit that place when I go back, even if it is only for window shopping

What range? There may be a range for cops and military, but not for private gun enthusiasts. In my town I must drive 30 miles out in the country to find a place to shoot--but you can do as you please there. I bring a trash bag and clean up the litter of others when I'm done.
Czechia: You walk in to a gun store with a license, buy what you want (silencers, long rifles, short rifles, whatever), leave. 7 times lower gun crime than U.S.A. that probably has more gun laws than Czechia has of any laws.

Yes but, it has many limitations, You have a problem with alcohol - you don't get a license, fights, violence, crime - you don't get a license and many more

@@Killerean it's enough if you drive a car with alcohol and you no longer have to get a license (or they can take it away). you'll get involved in some neighborhood scuffle in the pub and many other things. The law is very strict about who gets a license and who doesn't. You must be a citizen without a criminal record. So criminals and problematic people can't get licence. And you must learn about 900 not easy questions about weapon law, first aid, gun safety - that prevents idiots from get license. And result is - we are one of the safest country.
@@ras400I agree with this approach to an extent. My concern is that I do think some people who are rehabilitated or slipped up should be given consideration in being allowed a chance for a license if enough time allotted and evidence of rehabilitation.

Absolutely, I would just like to point out that this is the case in all gun shops in the Czech Republic, or at least my experience has always been similarly good.
I'm from the Czech Republic and it's very nice to see a famous CZcamsr and shooter visit our country and get to know Czech weapons and partially also the gun law. By the way, I thought Mr. James was a bit taller :D
Fun fact: The word "Pistol" probably comes from a Czech word "Píšťala" which means (flute) as in medieval ages there where used long firearms, that actually looked like a very long flute. :D
The word most likely comes from the Italian city of Pistoia, when pistols were manufactured in the 1400's. The French picked up on that and "pistole", the French word for pistol, later evolves into the English word we know as "pistol."

@@aveemoller8614 Nearly, but no, píšťala can be a flute, but if we are talking about where the pistol came from, it should be píšťala, but with different meanings which were handheld firearms used by mainly Hussites around 1430, they were one of the first who integrated firearms and cannons to tactics in battle. Even Howitzer ( houfnice ) came from them.

Thank you for a video I didn't know I needed! Suppressors classified as an NFA item in the U.S. is insane. Same with the 16-inch barrel length. Can you believe our congress is wasting time and taxpayer money arguing about braces? The rules in Prague are lengthy, and I wouldn't trade the 'no registry' aspect of our system to buy a suppressor quickly. But it's sad that laws don't reflect common sense.
Note: 18 inches for NFA shotgun in U.S. 16 inches is for rifles only.

It's good to know we have Brothers in the EU in Poland and the Czech Republic.
One thing that wasn't mentioned is that prices are including sales tax, which makes them look higher for Americans used to seeing prices without tax.
Wonderful interview and very fascinating! In my opinion, here in the US, CZ is a very underrated firearm. They actually are fantastic and I would not think twice about carrying one in combat.
My friend is a real big gun nerd. He tells me that he wouldn’t hesitate to even buy a used one; that they’re that good👍

My wife is Czech, I visit and shoot there regularly, and every gun store employee I've spoken too are like this. Very professional and very knowledgeable. It's a big part of the culture as they have such a history of firearm manufacturing.
Czechs are great people. Prague is a fun city to visit. Amazing beer too

Cheers from Prague. Yeah, the entrance is confusing as hell when you try to come in for the first time. And so is the licensing, or at least for James it is apparently ;) You only need a doctor's approval to get the general license, not the B gun permit.

Well, it is the CZ flagship store in the capital city of Prague. I'm sure they poured a lot of money into this store just to represent, it doesn't have to be the most economical store.

I thought CZ discontinued the 550s... I've been trying to get my hands on one, here in South Africa they are considered to be some of the best every day work rifles for hunting in the bush, specially the .308, and the safari magnum rifles for dangerous game hunting. Reliable, accurate, controlled round feed, not picky eaters, not fussy with torque for the action screws so maintenance is easy... just a damn good every day working man's rifle.
Need more of these videos it would be a awesome series to do this around Europe!
Very interesting, their laws are pretty similar to Australia's except a bit more relaxed in regards to self loading firearms, self protection and a few other things but it's back to front here. In Australia we have 6 categories (A,B,C,D,E,H) "A" being the easiest and "E" being the hardest (equivalent to A in Czech). Very insightful and interesting video. Thank you very much!
Hardest to get in Czech (knownledge-wise) is D or E, 74 out of 79 points, so E would be equal to E in Australia.
The coolest shop to visit in Prague is Beareka. That is where you go to get the exotic stuff like belt feeds and SMGs.

this was a top story I enjoyed TFB. thanks for making the journey for us! despite the registration the Czechs have to do, I really like their attitude. qualify, then you can get anything because, well, you're qualified. you now are an asset to society by taking up such an expense and responsibility. this is in high contrast to the US regime where it's "you might be able to get this or that, but we'll decide based on politics not facts, then take it away from you if we change our minds."
I definitely love CZ, and the way the Czechs love to "walk around". Case in point, vz58.

James, most Czech gun owning friends are saying that civilian gun owners in total have more ammo than the Czech Military at this time... Friends in the Czech Military are agreeing with that statement, F'ing hell...
I heared similar rumors here in germany but could not find any numbers yet. There is assumptions though that germany is far behind the nato requirement of stockpiling for 30 fighting days. I assume that it is mostyl artillery ammunition though that is problematic. Still, quick math:
German Army Personell: 185.000 (asume 50% are fighting force) --> 92.500 activeSoldiers
Civilian owned firearms: ~5 Mio )about 10% of these are Semiautomatic Rifles --> 500.000 pot. military style rifles
standard Loadout of a german Soldier with a G36 is 240rds on person. 240rds x30 Days )7200rds per active soldiers.
7200rds+92500soliders = 660.000.000 Rounds of rifle ammo.
660 Million / 500.000 Rifles = 1320 rounds per civilian owned military style rifle. On Average.
While I am sure there is people that have more ammo, there is many that own a rifle and a few rounds because they hardly shoot, therefore I question the idea that civilians own more ammo. At least when it comes to 5.56mm. Across all ammo types, including .22 the picture is probably pretty clear.

@@peteraugust5295 On the 25th of February 2022 I was telling all my Czech Gun Friends this will be just like the US after the BLM Protests started. After approximately 7 days all 223, 7.62x39, and 9mm Parabellum was sold out. After a couple of weeks all Glocks were sold out, and after about a month all new AR-15s were sold out as well. Tactical Shotguns, Buckshot and Slugs were also sold out within about a month. People were buying guns that they did not have any ammo for... 223 and 9mm were the first to come back after a few months, and 7,62x39 towards the end of last year. When a small Gun Store would get any popular ammo in stock they would only sell small amounts to a single purchaser. The panic buying was crazy...
Just looking at the sales of last year it might give some idea of how much the people had. When speaking with friends the last months everyone is keeping stock. Only the gun owners know, no one else. The military knows what they have, and that isn't much today...

To the owners of CZ you have a wonderful sense of taste for that lobby and showroom, we have wholesale jewelry stores with less style and taste here in the states haha.
It would be interesting to do one of these in the UK. We have some of the craziest firearms regs there are, for instance a rifle of any calibre can have a minimum barrel length of 30 cms (just under 11 3/4 ins) but shotguns cannot be below 24 ins. However, moderators are no problem at all, in fact they are so encouraged that if you apply for a particular calibre like 308 or whatever, and happen to forget to specify a moderator, the Police will remind you to apply for it!

You should move to the channel Islands or Northern Ireland. In the Island of Jersey you can own semi automatic pistols and rifles of any calibre, same in Alderney. In NI you can own Pistols and SBRs of any calibre
@@PivhydrazineThe Channel Islands aren't part of the UK and you can it just move there. It's incredibly hard to get residency in the Channel Islands. Northern Ireland is easy to move to, but there are a range of reasons why moving to Northern Ireland is not something many people want to do (lack of work, continuing issues resulting to The Troubles etc).

In Scandinavian countries (part of Europe) it is now also possible to buy suppressors over the counter if you have a weapon it fits on. But you are not allowed to mount them on short guns like pistols. Shotguns can be bought over the counter with hunting license, but rifles and short guns need specific licenses that takes 2-3 months to process before you can pick them up.

Great video, even though they are exaggregating Bren's popularity. I know ton of people with other rifles and maybe 2 with Brens. Both of them bought them from nostalgia because they served with them in military. CZ vz. 58s, AK-47s and AR-15s are definitely more popular here. Vz. 58s were very popular few years ago, because it cost something about 200 USD and ammo was really cheap, like 15 cents/rd. Nowadays it makes more sense to buy AR-15, because endless stock of soviet era ammo dried up and the ammo costs almost the same. There are some local manufacturers of ARs, like Antreg, VAR, Luvo which makes decent quality AR rifles for good price. The greatest "freedom" here is, if you get license, you can get your 11-inch AR-15, stick 100rd drum in it, screw suppressor on it and go to shooting range.
I'm jealous. I live in Canada and we have a firearms test and licensing system that is similar, but our government hates firearms so we can't have nice things.
We can carry in czech rep and slovakia too :). And rules are much, much simpler over here. You have basically few types of firearms - full automatic (hard to get permit), pistols (short ones), semiauto rifles, bolt action and revolvers and shotguns (non semiautomatic are in same category as bolt actions). No artificial lwas saying these one is allowed while basically same type is forbidden like in Canada.
Getting a firearm licence is quite easy - if you are able to get driving licence, firearm licence not harder at all.
That’s it - if you have money, buy it. If you have carry permit (which is as easily to get once you have firearm licence), you can conceal carry it.
Thankfully Prime Minister Stephen Harper ended the long-gun registry in 2010 so that largely kneecaps Trudeau's efforts to confiscate the semi auto rifles that are not restricted category and thus not registered.

Tbh in most European countries you can purchase and detain firearms, the main difference with the US is that a carry permit is almost impossible to obtain (excluding the Czech Republic that is)
Well, why is that? Seems to work pretty well for them. Fourth lowest crime rate in Europe, last I Czeched (haha I'm not funny), and one of the three lower than them is Luxembourg. I'd say that's a good indicator of effectiveness.

*A few interesting CZ gun law details that may suprise you for foreigners, who are interested.*
You CAN own an automatic weapon (category A weapon), but as mentioned in the video, you have to provide a "good reason", which is almost always in the sense of repairing weapons, selling weapons, or special training for civilians. It depends largely on the administrative discretion of the respective police department. You also have to endure an unpleasant thing (for many). And that is that a police officer can enter your home any time to check how you store your gun (In this case, you must have a special safe).
Weapons, all parts of which were manufactured before December 31, 1890, are considered historical weapons and a firearms license is not required to acquire them (category D). But although you theoretically have the right to do so by law, they won't sell you ammunition for your gun in the store without license.
You can legally buy components without license to make ammo (up to a certain amount). But manufacturing and reloading ammunition without a firearms license is a felony (from a certain amount).
Airsoft guns and BB guns are also category D (lowest) weapons, and to acquire them you need full autonomy (rights) and at least 18 years of age (general requirements for category D).
You can also own percussion weapons (muskets) without a firearms license, under the same conditions as for category D + you must register it at the police department.
The highest caliber that is found in the Czech Republic and has a valid test mark of the Czech Office for Testing Weapons and Ammunition is
50 BMG). Guns for this cartridge are available primarily for bolt-action and single shot rifles. However, this caliber can only be only used on special shooting ranges or on shooting ranges where it is not expressly prohibited by its rules.
Any mental disorder does not mean that you will not pass the examination. The law clearly sets out the list of disorders that prevent and do not prevent the acquisition of a firearms license.
The law requires not only a clean criminal record, but also "responsibility" - a maximum of one offense in the area of public order in three years (otherwise you will lose your gun license).
Shooting outside the shooting range is not a "felony", but a misdemeanor with a high financial penalty (up to 50,000 CZK - around 2300 USD). And it's also considered as an offence in the area of public order.

not completely true though. Antique and antique-like (i.e. based upon antique styles of firearms) black powder guns (single shot and double barrels with all types of locks up to percussion and needle rifles) are category D, meaning every autonomous citizen over 18 can buy and own these without any need for noticing police.
Black powder guns of modern design are category C-I, meaning everything above applies, but you must also notice the police that you own it (no weapon registration though).
Black powder weapons with larger capacity (i.e. revolvers and rifles with magazines) made after 1890 are just like any other modern firearm as far as the law is concerned...

James and team, I just want to say thank you for making content like this. Nobody else even comes close to the variety, cleverness and out of the box type of programming ya'll are producing. Nobody is doing high end factory store tours in Europe. Nobody else is doing things as clever and fun as your Colt 1903 pocket pistol video. Not too many GunTubers are shooting videos at Beretta and S&Bs world HQs.
I'm a producer and I watch GunTubers with a pretty critical eye and conceptually, you consistently hit it out of the park. My only caveat is whatever camera system you guys are shooting this with, the AF is not good. When it locks, it's fine but there is too much stuff where it just can't find AF for too long. Not the end of the world but it slightly lowers the production values. At least sound is almost always good and that's more important.
Keep on doing what you do, it's so much fun and so engaging to watch!

CZ rimfires bought back in 2007...high quality. The turkish walnut stocks are stunning. Bought a friends full metal CZ semi auto 9mm exudes quality.

TFB , You should visit Poland. You can buy silencer like bread ;-) No licenses, no permissions. Swipe credit card and it’s yours. No mag limit, rifle length etc you can have 10”AR-15 with silencer and 60 round mag for sport shooting. Having gun license you can walk out from store with such setup 🔥

so our USA friends arent confused, here in CZ, when a gun is military grade, it usually means that they selected the best they could prefferably from a national manufacturer.

Wow great video, thanks. I visited the exact same CZ shop in Praha 9 months after they had got independence. They didn't have any of the clothes and the cabinets were light on inventory, no suppressors and evil black/FDE fun guns but they did have some great pieces, the engraved guns were works of art. Great people and country...sure miss the 15 cent beers and croquettes.
