When he joined the force, Nashville had just become one of the first metropolitan forces. The sheriff that had controlled the county before that was known to be corrupt. He and his partner were involved in investigating aspects of this. The sheriff was still in office in charge of corrections and had many corrupt deputies that were loyal. Some of these deputies joined the police department as they wanted to maintain their law enforcement powers. Some of these former deputies were in high positions within the police department. There is another video where a cop sees two cars parked illegally on the street (It is a narrow street and is is all a no parking zone. In addition, they were mostly in a lane of traffic.) There are not a lot of houses in the area, so it is obvious what house they belong to. He goes up and knocks on the door and shouts that he is police and just wants to talk to them. It appears no one is home. He goes back to his vehicle and calls two two trucks. It takes about an hour for the tow trucks to get there. While he is waiting, he knocks and shouts a few more times before giving up because clearly no one is home.
When the two trucks show up and start hooking up to the first car, a young adult female runs out of the house screaming. She is on the phone with her boyfriend. The cop explains that the tow company now has possession of the first car. If she can move the second car before the tow truck hooks up, she can avoid the tow charge on it. She can't. She says boyfriend owns the second car, his friend owns the first car, both of them are less than five minutes away and they are on the way.
By the time the boys get there, the second car is on the truck, and the first car is gone.
If she had talked to the officer thru the door, he would have told her to move the cars, and they could have just put the cars in the huge driveway that had plenty of room for them.
Don't ignore police. Don't have a casual conversation with them, but it can pay to listen to what they have to say.

I got pulled over once, fair and square, speeding. This was in the late 90's in a midsize town. I was doing 52 in a 25. That said, I was within sight of the 55 sign, and was speeding up, but I admitted to the officer I was in the wrong for that. It was about 2:00am and I was on my way home from work. I was 20. I was driving my Dad's car, because mine was in the shop. He first questioned me about the car. Asked if my Dad knew I had it. I told him he did. He asked me if he called my Dad and asked him, if he'd corroborate. I told him feel free to wake him up. He'd probably not be too happy, but he would. Then he asked me if I'd been drinking at all. This town is a college town. I told him I had not, and that I was on my home from work. He asked me if he gave me a breathalyzer if it would definitely show me having not had even one drink. I told him it would definitely show him that. He never did ask me to get out of the car or anything, but this whole process took well over half an hour. He did give me a speeding ticket, and because it was so much over in a 25 zone, or something like that, I would need to go to court. No payment through the mail. When I arrived at court, the officer wasn't even there. The judge said the officer noted on the file I had been respectful, and followed all instructions without question. I felt like the officer knew he was in the wrong and was hoping for an easy out. The judge threw out the case. I still remember that incident to this day.

@@StatesMusic First, who's deciding what's "right" for who? And no, others going "Because I say so for you" isn't cutting it. The fact is things aren't black and white. It's ones one actions and choices at the end of the day. Which will have consequences. If you play your cards right you can turn the tables on a cop. Even if arrested. It's all about getting them to realize there's no moral high ground. That they're just as bad as what they judge somehow. People are often blind to their own actions. The truth is the truth though. Just present the logic with straight answers to questions and sticking to facts. If they play the "legal" cards then play the "You're a hypocrite" card.
Some cops know they're pricks. Their own words. Some know they can do better but maybe aren't sure how. People pretend standard training is enough. It's not. If I was teaching cops I'd do it while also teaching criminals. By making a point about how dishonest can cost lives. What would I make this point? Because cops are trained to lie and use fake evidence. Once that becomes a habit then how can you trust yourself when used to lies and deception? Even if knowing the truth first, if you tell yourself something so many times you can believe the lie. That's if you mean to do it. So imagine but easy and common it is from bad habit alone. It's no wonder the law can't be trusted.

My brother has always been the most sensible man I've ever met. Never drunk-drove; never did drugs; no fights; never got in any trouble, etc. But in his early 20s, he was very tall, well-built, and he just accidentally looked... like a bruiser 😂
Anyway, one night at 2am, he was driving home on a Friday night from his studying (of all things!) - in his university town. A cop pulled him over and didn't even give a reason. He pulled him over, said he could smell alcohol, and asked him to do a breathalyser (this is the UK. It's straight to breathalyser, we don't do sobriety tests. Which I personally think is better, as it answers the question without all that faffing around).
My brother blew a straight zero. The cop was shocked, and said he'd never found a lad my brother's age - at 2am in this university town - driving completely sober, on a Friday night. My brother would have been within his rights to get angry, but he's so calm and peaceful, he just thanked the cop for 'keeping the roads safe' - and shook his hand.
He was so nice to the damn cop, the cop said he'd reconsider his assumptions in future. He then just said 'drive safe', and let him go.
I'm not saying you shouldn't challenge cops, if they behave badly and profile you. But my brother's demeanour was so calm and peaceful, it actually made the cop think twice. Hopefully that saved some other young men in future, from being profiled by that cop.

More than 10 years ago I was in Lakewood and used a resturant bathroom without buying anything. I left my phone in the bathroom the hostesswould not give it back she had it in her hand. I thought I would get my phone back be able to go on my way when she called on me. I did not have money to buy anything on me . I was falsely accused of being drunk. I asked for a breathalizer test they refused to give me one. I was put in jail I got a $200 fine for drunken disordely. I starved was given no food. I got a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on the way out. I called my father to pick me up. I actually passed out on the sidewalk before he got there. I had this exponged a few years ago the drunken disorderly. I was sober. Was put in jail and fined. I kept trying to argue I had not drank anything when I was in the cell. No one would listen.
