Correction: going from glass bottles to plastic and thinner plastic equaling less waste is only true if the bottles weren't reused and recycled.
Glass bottles can be reused dozens of times before they become waste (and glass waste can be recycled into new bottles with ease), the thick plastic bottles can still be reused about a dozen times before they become waste (and they too get recycled into new bottles but that needs more added new material), on the other hand the thin pet bottles become waste after a single use and can't be recycled into new pet bottles (into other things though).
Atm glass bottles are still the greenest alternatives to package drinks, after just drinking tap water (where possible) and tightly followed by the thick plastic bottles (if they stay in the bottle cycle).
"Can be" and "are" are different stories
@@nexusinc.4367 yes!!!
You’re insane if you think people are sifting through mixed recyclables and picking out glass bottles and thicker plastic bottles and going “these will do just fine!” Only the drink manufacturers can do that, and they won’t because they’re typically not local mom and pop stores and it’ll take more money/plastic to safely ship bottles and to industrially clean them than to make a new bottle.
The only realistic version of what you’re saying, is if the drinks companies ship to restaurants in a single container and the company itself uses glass containers for the customers, in which case yes the glass can be reused almost indefinitely.
@@kevintse2870 actually, people do do that. And soft drink (soda) manufacturers definitely reuse glass bottles.
There is a reason people collect old glass bottles and still use mason jars, i know people using jars that are close to 100 years old because they inherited that and the tradition. And not only old people but some younger.

I'm pretty sure Mattpat nailed this one on the head. That's exactly what I was mauling over in my mined when I watched walle
I would love a prequel showing Wall-E's creation and how he is the only robot to manage to survive for so long.
He cannibalises other Wall-Es for parts.
If you've ever played the PC game, I think that, and a scene in the early movie is an indicator. Basically Wall-E runs back as quick as possible to the truck where they are based before the others whenever a storm pops up. I think it may also have to deal with him having a kind of conscious, figuring out the most direct routes back, then one by one the other Wall-E units deteriorate and shut down, and yes, he also does break down the other units for spare eyes and treads, which is also seen in the movie. That's just my theory anyway. Wall-E is my favorite Pixar movie, so I've put a little thought into it.

why is WALL-E in the trash in the first place?
Well that’s interesting and all but I have a few questions. This theory definitely makes a lot of sense but do to a ship that’s been sailing in space for hundreds of years, would money still even be relevant? And if so how do we know that people still even have money to give up on that ship? Granted the business that trashed the world is definitely plausible, especially for money, but how would they keep this up when people run out of money? Wouldn’t that doom humanity on the ship? Regardless, I love the videos, just had a few questions about this one. I’m kinda curious.
BnL probably doesn't exist anymore by the time of Wall-E, only their propoganda and robots remain, keeping humankind under their posthumous control.
It's no longer about money. They were already the only corporation. Now they are the undisputed leaders. Every facet of the, admittedly comfortable, lives of the public is now under their complete control. BNL's aesthetics, rules, AUTO programming, and entertainment reign supreme. Even without formal leaders, aside from the captains, the ships are a huge vanity project, BNL is viewed as a god like savior of mankind (and much like The Machine Stops, a story from over a hundred years ago with a vaguely similar plot, albeit less optimistic, I wouldn't be surprised if worship of the corporation eventually became mandated). This is the Bezos and Musk wet dream, that they would happily give up every cent of their fortunes to achieve.
@@PoseurGoth I doubt BNL as a group of people exists anymore. I think that by the time Wall-E's events happen, BNL is run by a network of AUTOs.
@@HOLDENPOPE It doesn't, but as a legacy it is insanely powerful. Culture, for all intents and purposes, is in an eternal stasis. This corporation had steered the course of humanity forever (until they returned to Earth). The executives will go down in history as humanity's saviors. I think that is a far more compelling motive than profit.
@@PoseurGoth I agree.
I knew ever since I was little that BNL was the main villain. Captain Auto was programmed to not let the humans go home, which means BNL never truly had any intentions of reversing earth's damage. That's why Wall-E was the only trash robot left and why Eve was the only assessment robot to be deployed. They never actually expected there to be a change
The BnL CEO actually initiated the A113 Directive in Auto several years or even decades after people were initially meant to return to Earth, WALL-E was just the only bot still working because they were meant to finish cleaning after 5 years but the movie takes place 700 years after they were supposed to be done (many modern cars don’t even last that long), and EVE was only one of several probes deployed to Earth, as several other models are seen in the ship with EVE, and it’s not unreasonable to assume there were other ships that were sent to Earth as well. I’m not saying you’re wrong or anything because it is very plausible that BnL never intended to take people back and everything else was simply a facade to trick people.
The captain specifically said that they've sent several probes, but Eve was the first one to come back with a plant

issue with the glass -> plastic shift for bottles is that the glass bottles were reused. they were delivered to your house, and then picked back up at the next delivery (so less wasteful)
Additional theory: BnL got so big that they developed AI technology to run the company, eventually getting smart enough to create this plan to rid the planet of people, convincing the executives of the company it was just a move for profits as MatPat said. Okay, this makes WAY too much sense! And it actually fits with what we see in Wall-E with the efforts to suppress the evidence of Earth's restored habitability. After all, if a greedy corporation did all of this to ensure a monopoly, then doesn't it stand to reason that they'd set up a protocol in the ship's AI to try and maintain that monopoly in case there was ever evidence that the "need" for humanity to live in space aboard BnL's monopolistic cruisers had passed? This may be your best and most plausible theory so far! Good one!

When labor does itself willingly without demanding compensation, how are humans supposed to fulfill their mindless busywork quota?
Great game
remember machine are just too smart for plan strategy teaching learning survive anything possible
Not to mention that keeping the people complacent was probably a part of Auto's interpretation of his final order. In order to ensure that they never return to Earth, the humans must be distracted at all times. This is why the "advertisements" play despite anyone working or making money: it's to keep their minds preoccupied with frivilous activities instead of asking questions about Earth which, as we see with the captain, is something that the computer is capable of and willing to answer. It's no longer about making money, it's about following orders in the most effective way possible.
Mattpat is really great at what he does-- honestly. He could probably convince me that the sky is purple if he tried.
But hey. It's just a theory, a sky theory
The sky refracts light in a rainbow prism which the bounces around in until it builds up a good amount of energy and hits our eyes. The overload of energy overwhelms our eye capacitors so to see the blind bright skies, our eyes just choose a soothing color. Without our eyes assuming a color, the sky would be rainbow having purple in it.

Depends. Sometimes he’s just an ignorant fool
The way matpat tell his theories is so convincing that I just take that as truth
Some of his theories are flimsier than others... This one in particular makes a lot of sense though.
MatPat’s theory of BNL being the ones responsible is a good theory but it also got me thinking. Because yes people who live in cities are going to hop aboard but what about the folks in rural areas and those who would be stubborn and refuse to go on that ship and instead run away?
I like to think the Axium passengers discover all the descendants of these people living idilic lives away from the trashy cities
How does BnL make money if the passengers on their cruise liners aren't doing any work?
Arushad Ahmed they don’t make money anymore, they own everything
I imagine they had a plan like that, but then everything backfired
Holdup if no one is paying for anything and BnL is just hoarding a bunch of money with no one who's making products to give that money to, isn't that just gonna make all that money worthless? So does BnL want control over humanity, or are they just stupid?
Also don't the people and by and large live on Earth they're willing to destroy their ownfor money which doesn't make any sense cuz they control everything so wouldn't all the high executive's just get what they want free what would they buy with their money they own everything
Exactly what I said above! In the rest of the comments section.
The way he said “Cars” so sweetly in the beginning cracked me up😂😂

Seriously
I work in a DC and our in house boxes are and have always been made from recycled materials. Those boxes get easily damaged and many don’t make it to the truck without getting damaged. Our returned boxes are often horribly beat up.
There's still something wrong.
In the spaceship, we can clearly see that the only human doing what mostly looks like a job is the captain, and even him barely does something. Everyone is just sitting in their chairs and consuming, they basically don't have to pay anything and don't get paid since they don't work. So that means the only money the company got from that project is what the government probably gave them so that they could build the spaceship and the entry ticket everyone had to pay to be onboard.
You could say that everyone probably had to pay a lot to have that ticket, but we have to remember that they were meant to only spend 5 years in space.
So clearly, the company wouldn't have got this much money from doing that

But it’s not on “earth”.
this theory could easily disprove the cannibalism theory, as if BNL knew they were going to be up there that long, they could’ve easily prepared the correct amount of food. the cannibalism theory has BNL doing this through means: the humans they recycled, motive: they did not have enough food at all, and opportunity: they had 700 years to make the human food, but with this new theory that takes out the motive for BNL. you could potentially replace this motive with the motive that it was cheaper to recycle humans, but you would need a whole other theory for this.

And the fact that it was all kept to the descendant generations. That makes his theory even more believable, that all along it was a plan for the monopoly of humanity as a whole

I do have one minor disagreement with your theory. You say Buy and Large has a motive: to get money. But it is clearly shown that the humans can no longer do anything except, you know, sit around and get waited on. There would be no new money coming in, as none of the humans have jobs. The food and other things the humans get would have to be free. And they have to continuously spend money on maintenance of the robots that do everyone's jobs for them (Detroit much?). Yes, they may have charged an initial fee to get on the space ship, but that would be nothing compared to the cost of running a that thing. And for that matter, why would money matter in space? There is nothing for Buy and Large to buy anymore. They essentially own all there is to own, because all of humanity is on that spaceship. Am I crazy, or does anyone else agree?
Edit: You know that moment when you come back to a video three months later and have more likes and comments than you've ever gotten ever? And said comment was actually intelligent? Yeah... It feels good
TheVenator was coming to the comment section just to see if anyone else had caught all of this lol especially the part about them not being able to do anything with the money
I was thinking this throughout the whole video. Nothing about what BnL is doing in the theory *makes* money. Destroying a planet, and building interstellar ark ships that support every need and function to ridiculous excess, of completely passive and non-contributing humans AND every generation of their decendents for 700 years... that has to cost thousands (if not millions) of times more than the entire savings of that first generation of people. Plus, yeah, where the hell would they spend it?
So every human on earth just got on a ship to space for free? I doubt it. Maybe 700 years after the ship has been in flight things are free but, there had to at least be a boarding fee.
I understood it as, since everybody is just lazing on those ships, BnL would have a monopoly on the planet's resources. Although i still don't get why they would do this since even if you have all the resources in the world, what are you gonna use it for.
Also all the space junk which would be troublesome for bnl's ships proves this is humanity
No one is being left behind though, so that would mean that everyone's family is coming with them. Buy and large is giving everyone a FREE trip to space. I didn't see anyone in that ship that had a job except the captain. What's the point of making everyone captive, they wouldn't have money to buy anything on that ship. Everything is free.
I think that the robots are to blame. They wanted to get rid of humans and sent them to space maybe AI got smarter than humans.
Right I was thinking the same. They are on the ship for generations, so no money left to spent.
@@baggioverbert6249 well it was only supposed to be a short trip. My guess is not all of humanity made it to the ships (because you really did have to pay originally). BnL did plan on cleaning things up once they got a bunch of money from people, but the environmental impact of their plan was more than they bargained for. So they went into emergency mode and just told the ships to stay out. They were forced to save humanity off of Earth. BnL was gone by the time Wall-E starts, but the robots and ship were programmed to show and use BnL stuff from the beginning, so they just kept using it.
Could be important political figures, wealthy businessmen that ran BnL or had stocks in it and their families, Workers high enough on the totem pole. 600,000 people isn't everyone on the planet, at least I assume there wouldn't be that few of people given that the current population is about 7,794,798,739. While the Axiom might be one of many ships, there are division. Executive and regular "Tours". Let's say they had about.... 1,000 ships that all had the capacity for 600,000 people. That still leaves about 7,194,798,739 people on earth if the population of earth at this time is what it is now. That is a small fraction of people. No doubt this wasn't a free trip, at least not for the common person. I believe somewhere they mention "Thousands" of ships.... so They would have needed to make about....7,794,799 ships... But again, they mention "Thousands" not tens of thousands, not millions.... Suffice to say they still left a chunk of people behind because they probably did not have ships. But then again, we do not know of this Earth's population. For all we know it could have been on the brink of collapse making is easier to fit everyone on their ships.

Honestly this reflects heavily on the modern day. Corporate greed has always been the largest contributor followed by demand.
So dinosaur *isn't* the deadliest movie?

There’s one looming problem with this theory, as matpat said, “Don’t trust everything at first glance”
since the people on the BnL ship apparently don’t do work, (they were never shown at any time of day to be doing anything else other than sleeping, talking, eating etc) the ship could not have any economic productivity, everyone in humanity is doing practically nothing, so, everyone is supported by the BnL ship.
Does this mean everyone on the ship is broke? or that BnL just has a really good Universal Basic Income? I don’t know.
but I do know this, for everyone to live, they need the necessities of life, but since they are not working for those necessities, there is no economy.
so to conclude this pointlessly long comment that nobody is gonna read, the ship can’t have any economy, because there is no working class.
Greed could not be a factor, because BnL destroyed the economy by making humanity useless at working.
Regards, Random guy on youtube.
Yeah I was thinking that the whole time I was watching. It makes no sense.
ikr I was like where do they get the money?
BnL thought the cleanup for their mess was only gonna be 5 years. Plenty of time to drain the passengers of all their money then drop them off back at home broke and penniless. They grossly underestimated the length of the cleanup program so now they're stuck caring for generations of people or out themselves as the bad guy.
That still doesn't make sense, even if they were the biggest company, would it not become apparent to the public that they were doing something wrong? Especially if their products were much more wasteful compared to other companies who could easily promote their superior go green product. I understand they have a lot of money but they still have to compete with Free Market. Also if people expected to be gone only 5 years then would it not become extremely suspicious that they were on their for waaaaaay over 5 years. Wouldn't people start demanding an answer?
If they don't need money then what's the point of sending everyone onto a ship? Why waste money making big space ships in the first place. What would be the motive?
hmm but where is the money even coming from, all the people on the ship seem to dont work anymore and only consume.....
Way too much stuff comes packaged in pointless plastic
This fits really well in the pixar theory, since it states BNL is run by AI first developed by Syndrome, and trying to control the earth and people, so a world contaminated by trash could force people off, where AI. wouldn't be affected. There's more but i really don't want to type it out so I'm just gonna leave it here.

Alright who else agrees it's about time for Mat to make a film theory about Gru??? Like how he's 14 feet tall and his rocket would cost trillions of dollars to make, how he moves at almost 600 miles per hour. I would like to see that.
Edit: he can also effortlessly lift up and toss the moon around.

I would agree with this if it wasn't for the fact that companies (and individuals) don't tend to be good at long-term decisions in the first place
The only problem is that sending everyone into space is a horrible buildings model. I mean sure, the first generation will give every cent, but everyone born over the next 700 years? There doesn’t seem to be any form of currency on the Axiom, so it appears that BnL is just providing these people with food, water, and round-the-clock service without making any profit whatsoever. Fortunately, there’s an easy way to explain this that’s already well-established in the Pixarverse. Most people theorize that at a certain point, BnL was taken over behind the scenes by an AI that was originally programmed to help the company. This AI then set about taking over everything, but because of the parameters programmed into it, it couldn’t directly attack or kill off the humans. So instead, it found a loophole, forcing them into space with its awful business model that destroyed the earth, while still technically caring for the humans so as not to violate its programming. That’s why it still takes care of the humans centuries later, when no logical business or extinction strategy would justify that. And as a result, the AI has the entire Earth to use for its own ends.
There is no proof of that last part in the movie though. It's 100% speculation.
great Theory but the only problem is wouldn't the AI second main program be making Revenue for the company.......
And so the story of Nine begins. ;)
the cruise was only suppose to last 5 years... not 700
Nate TSO I’ve also heard another theory about how humans are used like a power source, In Monsters Inc they use the fear of children as a power source so why wouldn’t an AI do the same thing? Your theory about the AI not being able to hurt humans could work too but as shown in cars 2, in a world with no humans they are having a power crisis. Coincidence? Probably. Anyway I believe the humans are used as a power source for the AI thus letting it live on for ever
Also don’t forget that the WALL-E robots are pretty cheaply made and break down easily. You literally see WALL-E scavenge parts off of a dead WALL-E robot just after a meager days work.
But another thing that I think you forgot to mention is that BNL controls all humans so money doesn’t even matter because they would also control the currency and what exactly are they going to do with money
To control all the money
First you'll have to own all the money
Then you'll own all the products all the materials ALL OF THEM
And you could live a life of a king you are ( minus all the king's problem like war and stuffs since you're the only king, the supreme king of the human kind )
Imagine what mand kind could do if they all work together, no need to imagine since BnL had already covered that. With their humongous weath, they made robots to do their bidding
Now since they don't need to worry about money anymore cause there is no money anymore, they share their products with the people
After all a king need his people and a god need his followers
Not that they care
It because they need to feel supreme, it's human's nature
BUT HEY, IT IS JUST A THEORY, A STUPID THEORY
Also
BnL did not need to make robots that able to clean the trash for forever
All they need to is to convince people that they made such things
They sent robots to Earth to fulfill their promisses just to let people see that they was doing their job and but... as you might have seen
If the Earth is suitable for living once again, no one would know
And the directive A-113 programmed in A.U.T.O make much more sense and is even more evil because that means BnL thought about the "What if" Robot are still functionning and cleaned the planet or the planet become habitable again
Well wall-e is probably hundreds of years old. The entire planet is devoid of life, so he couldn't be brand new,
ThatWDude why do you think I compare it to INGSOC?
Jokes apart , this is very terrifying thing and it is happening at this moment too
In many ways we cant even think of
Have you guys ever thought “Hey let’s just not make any trash” ?
Let's be real here.
BnL is something that I fear a company like Walmart will turn into. I mean, you all know how greedy Walmart is!

Can’t wait till the next Disney/Pixar movie comes out and the plot is ruined.
Travis Elzinga me too
I've taken this to consideration an ive realized Wall-E is an emotional great story I don't care what you say.
Recycling used to be important to me. Then one day while throwing out trash I watched the dump truck empty regular dumpsters, the plastic recycling, and the paper/cardboard recycling. At least in my county, it all goes to the landfill regardless of what bin we put it in.
Just... one thing. How is BnL still profiting off of the people in space? Nobody on the axium really does any labor that BnL can use (correct me if I’m wrong, it’s been a while since I’ve watched wall-e), and if BnL already has all of the wealth on the ship (or the whole planet) then what do they do with it, and why do they even still have the ship?
Andrew Korchowsky well, th ey probably got massive government funding, peoples' life savings, company investments to save the human race. They have tons of money and are just now waiting for the Earth to be clean. (I have no idea, just my guess...)
Though I would like to think these people are paying rent and when they run out of money they get kicked into space.. xD
ORRRR... it's not about money at all its about control of the world/people
xDarkTrinityx why would BnL try to eliminate any possible life on earth
I bet they bought a spot on the spaceships in order to ride
A version of the pixar theory theory says that after incredibles, ai became super intelligent, and rather than skyneting us, they decided to slowly enslave us matrix style. The "ceo" is just a fake guy, controlled by BnL.
I mean the ship wheel was manipulating and controlling the captain for a bit (and the captains before probably)
matt patt also forgot to mention that BnL burned trash to remove the overflow problem, resulting in the atmosphere getting poisoned even faster than the naturally occurring methane would.
*Lord Daret* Yeah, for Someone who said "They Dug through all the details", Film Theory missed the One Piece of Detail in the DvD scenes, where that part was mentioned.
Except that burning trash has less of a negative Impact, because landfills also produce CO2 and the additional methane is a 30 times more effective Greenhouse Gas than CO2. Not to speak of the Problems with seepage of toxic waste materials into the ground and watersupply.
*Rumplelumpa Snickerdoodles* The burning Trash would have the Same results, as it Would have just sped up the process. Burning it meant Acid rain from stuff like Litium Ion Batteries. Not once did BnL recycle, they just burned indiscriminately.
Lazarus056 0:55 watch that Part again since i guess you misheard what Mat said
*silverSTONE 98* I didn’t. That part from the DvD was literally saying it as is. It Wasn't hidden surprises, as it made every single prop throughout WALL.E make complete sense.
This is Why i hate Film Theory. Game Theory, he tries to do it right. Film Theory? He sounds like an utter Nutjob.
Wall-E compacts trash but doesn’t touch roads, signposts, other robots. So somewhere in his programming is an algorithm that separates trash from non-trash. One day he runs across something that defies catagorisation, and unable to process it he simply stores it for later... this was his first trinket. As time passed his programming grew to encompass more and more trinkets and more self-awareness. It was this expanded reasoning that allowed him to make the leap of salvaging other robots for parts. As centuries ground past all the other robots broke down but wall-e was able to keep going.
I now feel much more hopeful for the future.
And I don't mean that in a sarcastic way, I feel genuinely hopeful
The problem is that the people on the ships out in space don't do any work. They don't have an income to spend on BnL products, which also brings up the question, if they don't have any jobs, why are they getting service and food and things like that? BnL must be getting something from them if it isn't money.
I agree. What’s the answer? How do these people have money to spend?
look up the carlinbrothers, they have the answer
We are so ingrained into the system that there's no other possible outcome. . . . .
Hmm yes
Basic universal income? But even that doesn't properly address the problem...
A question I have: What happened to the other Starliners? There were many of them built, so what were their fates?
1. They will never return to Earth because they don't have a Wall-e to screw up Auto's plans. 2. the people revolted on the other ships and maybe it fell to chaos. Also a possibility is that the people took control, went back to earth but died due to toxicity levels or decided to never come back. 3. they didn't manage to survive, maybe because of famine, illnesses, lack of energy, riots, meteors or other space dangers, maybe a solar eruption.
Evolve in another planer or die I guess
Probably still cruising through space.
But unlike the Axioma, they weren't sending exploration teams back to earth to find and recover plants.
A single shuttle had a lot of EVE droids, but somehow Wall-e only found one in 700 years... So either they where stretched too thin, or only the Axioma was making said missions and really far between them.
@@jonumine6250 The world where human have FTL, AI ROBOT, HOLOGRAM but cannot grow a plant. Humanity will be ultimate stupid being lower than animal despite the advancement we made
probably in space forever
With that being said, pretty sure BNL had already gotten it's comeuppance before the movie even began.
Are we sure that the corporate entity still even exists?
Sure there's the Axiom and possibly all of the other Starliners still floating around in space, but BNL as a corporate entity with executive leadership is basically Dead, possibly been so for around 700 Years, give or take.
Ever since their plan to recolonize Earth backfired in the face of the CEO that remained on Earth, although for all we know he'd probably escaped on a separate Starliner reserved just for him.
I mean if I were him, I'd also wanna reserve my own escape ship in the event things do not go to plan, and Earth ends up becoming an uninhabitable rock.

I always thought they just used the same microwave as on the star trek series. Energy and molecules placed in a way that mimics the exact taste and texture of food. Obviously it would get boring as there is only one preset for each food(the perfect one as determined by the computer), it'll lack the mistakes and innovations created by actual humans.
Ok, this theory mostly makes sense, but however, why would BnL need to send people into space?
They already rule Earth, they already have a captive audience, they already have no competition, they don’t need to force people into to space.
Edit: Also, it was said that evacuation was mandatory so people didn’t have to pay.
This also works at the fact the computer on the Axiom is extremely against humanity returning to earth.
