    Im hoping that GameMax find their way into the "trusted" group of PSUs as I think they have a lot of offer. I have a GameMax 650 GP series one in my server and its not given me any bother. At this price point there are certainly a lot of options, maybe if this was a higher efficiency rating it might better justify the cost, especially as a semi-modular unit. Thanks for the review Mike and Kath :-)

      I would definitely pay more for it to be higher efficiency. Extra 10-15 quid for Gold ain't much. Wouldn't even mind if it was a 650W.

      Gamemax atleast their bronze psus would not find their way into trusted group 78mv of ripple you're just asking for your components to die out at that point not worth the risk. The other thing we do not know is their quality control and warranty scheme and how good are their customer service i'd only go for used topbrand psus at this point atleast gold or a silver from aerocool for efficiency incase uk would put a bill only allowing gold psus to be manufactured. i just saw a season gc-500 go for £43 on amazon which is really impressive you might be like its 500w it would just shut off it it spiked to 600w trust me seasonic powersupplies are built for endurance.

    Hey Mike small correction - 70 amps X 12 v equals 840 watts on main 12v rail. Not a bad looking PSU and good value for sure - but I will probably stick with cosair or seasonic.

    Good review Mike...only question i have is regarding pcie cables, why do they put two plugs on one cable? Surely power draw safer when using two sep cables due to safe amount power that can be drawn or have i muddled up! Thanks again Mike👍

      Good question! it must be able to deliver that amount of power through the cables, almost ever PSU i have had used the same design expect one be quiet 450w that only had a single 8 pin and that was it

    • @SmittyAZ
      @SmittyAZ Před 2 lety

      Probably money? On my early 2020 PSU installs on MOBO with the 'unneeded' extra 4 pin CPU power, I had to buy a Molex to 4/6 pin CPU adapter cable. My recent modular PSU's actually have two separate CPU cables available, along with two separate 6 pin for the new GPUs that I refuse to buy, right now...

    Hi, Mike. I'm decided on an EVGA SuperNOVA 850 Ga, 80 Plus Gold 850W, Fully Modular, ECO Mode with Dbb Fan, 10 Year Warranty. It has a good rating on Amazon and the reviews are not full of horror stories like the Gigabyte PSU was.

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  Před 2 lety +1

      could be, the design is an ODM one and gamemax just add a box and sticker so it is likely that there is an aercool, evga, coolermaster etc etc all using the same design

    Hello, what's the difference between semi modular, full modular o non modular?
    Should I consider it as a buy since I bought radeon rx 6800, since like you said it's 2 year warranty and I'd like to spend more longer warranty

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  Před 2 lety +2

      modular means the cables are all individual, semi modular is normally the main 24 pin and 8 pin eps are fixed but the rest are modular or individual cables, non modular is all cables are fixed and non removeable

  • @JohnDavidSullivan
    @JohnDavidSullivan Před 2 lety +3

    4:32 It seems they fixed an issue where one of the PCIE connectors was wired upside down - as someone reported on Amazon - or maybe that was only the 750w/800w model.

    • @ninjatall15
      @ninjatall15 Před 2 lety +1

      yeah that's really dangerous i don't trust gamemax after they lied about one of their psu's being 650w i'd probably get a used seasonic or corsair or evga top brands i've never seen a psu blow up some only minor issues like coilwhine.

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  Před 2 lety +3

      if you are referring to the gamemax in the ebay listings that TYC was looking at, it seems that was a fake and nothing to do with Gamemax

    • @mikesunboxing
      @mikesunboxing  Před 2 lety +1

      i would be interested to see that as they are tested before they leave the factory so it would have triggered a fail. not saying it didn't happen but until seeing it for myself i would reserve any judgement.
      EDIT
      after searching the post in question the physical block on the PSU was upside down, this can't cause any harm as the keyed connector physically cant fit in the plug. definitely a production issue though, but not dangerous as you can't actually use it, just a pain as it would need to be returned

    I was looking at buying one of these, but going for the non modular version 700 or 800w as its only £50 on amazon. Its a bit overkill on power for my current needs but i wanted to future proof my pc for buying a bigger gpu, rtx 3070 or 4070. Im currently using a 5600x and rx6650xt. Ive currently got a corsair cv550 and have always used corsair power supplies in all my builds so im a bit sceptical of changing psu brand. Are gamemax psu a safe bet for longevity, and do i need to worry about my pc blowing up if i use one?
