Thank you for all your useful tips! The only one I would not recommend is using a mask as a coffee filter : the layers of face masks are made with polypropylene, polyester, polycarbonate, polystyrene, or polyethylene. To ensure the material is flexible, they contain small quantities of chemicals such as phthalates ,considered safe for its normal use but NOT when steeping in in boiling water which you will then drink. Apart from everything else, the coffee will taste like 💩! If you are really desperate use a thin handkerchief ( you know, the pretty embroidered ones you inherited from grandmother and keep as a memento in the back of the drawer )

It’s not necessary to remove greens from their bin, just add paper towel to top of green and replace top. Store bin upside down in refrigerator. When using greens, replace paper towel with new sheet. Keeps greens crisp for much longer. Love the useful hints!

These are excellent tips. I have been using a version of one of these for many years, and I think I have an improvement on the one about freezing minced garlic. Sam's Club sells bags of peeled garlic cloves at around $10 for 3 pounds. I put all of it in my food processor and process until it comes to the consistency that I want for minced garlic. I then portion it out into small Ziploc freezer bags, flattening them out so they stack easily, about 4 or 5 bags full @ about 1/2 inch thick. I then stack them neatly and freeze them. When I need a clove or two (or more!) of minced garlic, I just slide out a bag, open it, and break off what I need. The garlic does not get super hard like ice, so it's easy to just remove what you need, zip it back up and return it to the stack you have. I use a lot of garlic, so this system has served me well, both with saving time and money. $10 for 3 pounds of garlic is ridiculously cheap, and it comes out of the freezer just like using fresh. The ice cube tray method in this video is helpful, but the smell and taste from the garlic being in the freezer without containment is possibly going to get into other foods, even into the refrigerator. Plus those portions are huge if you only need a small amount of a clove or two. Thanks for all of the tips!

American eggs are washed and disinfected before being put in the carton. The covering on unwashed eggs saves them from spoiling. In the UK eggs are not washed and they are not refrigerated in stores. They do have cases of people getting sick from the bacteria on the shell every year, though. We don’t in the US.

I buy olives in a gallon jar. It is wider than my jar opener. The only way I can open it is run my hot tap water for about five minutes over the top of the jar in a trickle and then hit it on the bottom and pray it breaks the seal. Most times it works!
