  • We reupholster our fly bridge helm with some ready made cushions, saving a fortune. We repair an air conditioning pump and a broken refrigerator, among other things, after visiting the boat for the first time in 3 months.

Repairs repairs repairs......I have to install a new air conditioning unit on my 2000 SeaRay 340 next spring. The compressor was going bad and would only work on the cooling side. As soon as I tried to switch it over to heat it would trip the circuit breaker. Had an AC tech look at it and diagnosed it as the compressor going "bad" It was drawing a more amps than it should. I guess after 23 years it had done its job.

I get condensation in my engine room too. My pump area sometimes looks like that.

Starter capacitor inside the hump housing is often the culprit on a non starting electric motor for future reference. We feel like we have to be on our boat nearly full time to keep up with it. Lol. Yesterday on a day trip we found the bilge for the shower/sinks catch basin had quit. Add it to the list. Rodger out.

I know this is your boat channel Ed, but I would’ve loved to see your 2 month remodel on your apartment in Pennsylvania. The one picture of the kitchen looked great, but I’m sure there’s so much more. Maybe next time, still enjoy watching all your little fix-ups on the boat too.

Mystery leak, I can relate. We had one for years only leaked in rough waters. I think it was a anchor locker drain. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the video. Maybe the Tesla did all the driving for you.

For the motor on that pump, check Grainger, you may be able to get a spare motor for much cheaper than the whole pump. Then you can swap them out and get the old one repaired for spare stock. Motor Technology Inc. In York PA does them.

AC on our 2004 44' sailboat has been a very consistent problem. We have two systems, both of which have been replaced three times in the last seven years. And, you can't (comfortably) have a boat in Florida without AC. Unfortunately, it's $4k to replace. Re the 'fridge, "re-melting" the housing is very ambitious!! Oh, the joys of boat ownership.

What can happen with iron and steel parts in humid environments is condensation. If the metal is colder than the humid air around it, water can condense on it and cause corrosion. That is probably what happened with your air conditioner pump. One thing that can reduce the corrosion is to spray exposed iron and steel parts that do not move with clear Rustoleum paint and keep moving parts lubricated.

It sure is nice having a Sailrite machine, last year whilst zipping the top of bimini on for spring commissioning the whole seam ripped out. Fortunately my house is 20 minutes from marina, rushed home and sewed it up and back and whilst finished installing the second zipper seam ripped out. Fortunately I said self, bring that machine with you just in case😮😂😂😂.

Hi Ed and Lynn , let me know if you need help when you're boats back in Philly, I would like the experience working on any projects you have coming up......I will be getting one in the future so any experience working on them and learning the systems would be great !.....thanks, Tom (originally from Bristol)

The Tesla is actually nice for long trips. We have to stop a little more often for charging but we do it at convenient places to get food, etc. It takes about 25 minutes per charge. However, the self steering makes the ride a lot more enjoyable.

It’d be worth investing in a dehumidifier for the engine room for when the boat is at the dock .

It looks like you were driving a Tesla down to Florida. Did you take the autotrain? If not, what was your range between charging stations?

    • @tryingnottosink9107

The Tesla is actually nice for long trips. We have to stop a little more often for charging but we do it at convenient places to get food, etc. It takes about 25 minutes per charge and there are plenty of super charger stations along I95.. The self-steering makes the ride a lot more enjoyable. The range is supposed to be 300 miles, but driving with headlights and air conditioning on knocks it down to about 240 miles.
