  • How to move off smoothly without stalling your car. It sounds like a simple thing to do, but when you are under pressure and trying to learn how to drive on your driving lessons for the first time, it will tend to go wrong.
    So in this video I will explain every stage what you need to do to be able to move off smoothly and at the same time no stalling of the car. I will also cover what mistakes most people when learning to drive do wrong on their driving lessons at the start. Such as stalling the car to kangarooing the car.

    Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. That phrase was my motto while I was learning manual. You just can't be worrying about everyone behind you. As long as you're not going egregiously slow and keeping up with the speed limit its their problem if they want to gun it after every stop sign and red light. Learn to be smooth and speed comes naturally

    I think when learners correctly set the gas and come up to bite the car sometimes starts to move earlier and more suddenly than expected. This throws you back into your seat a tiny bit and both the clutch and gas pedals come up together slightly. This is not what you want. To counteract the problem I like to add a little more gas to the set gas amount as soon as the vehicle moves and continue coming up with the clutch.

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před 4 lety +1

      This is a common fault on fast roads with learners.
      It’s usually caused by rushing.
      Try the 4th to 5th gear change in two movements(this will slow you down, but shouldn’t slow the car down much).
      Go 4th to neutral, then pull gear stick from neutral across more to you then 5th. Practice it stationer first.

      Makeup Rose no you can move the gear stick firmly so that it reaches the gears that you want to select.

    Tried this, and it works well, however the vibration from the clutch pedal scares me. I'm worried this will lead to very quick clutch wear, and clutches run for $2,000 USD for my car, will this lead to an early failiure?

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před 2 lety +1

      As you improve the technique you will spend less time on clutch. The vibration could be a cause of too much power and clutch being too low. But try playing around with it.

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před 2 lety +3

      At the early stages of your driving lessons it will help you to move off smoothly without stalling.
      As you improve your clutch control and speed the time holding the clutch still will become less and less to the point where you will eventually hold it still for about a second at times.

    • @JamesTravis
      @JamesTravis  Před 3 lety +1

      The best way to move off is gas then clutch. But some instructors use clutch to move off then apply gas.
      The juddering is the left foot coming off the clutch too quick with no gas. So applying the gas will help, but slowly lift off clutch to also help.
      I would ask your instructor if you are being taught in a petrol car or diesel car. Diesel cars don’t need gas to move off and are more forgiving and petrol cars needs gas to move off.
