This product worked incredibly well. High recommended for any doofus who thinks it’s a good idea to scrap ice off your windshield with something metal.
Great to hear.
Guilty
Omg I just did it with a license plate and now I’m here 😂
@@yulissaguerrero8314 lol
@@yulissaguerrero8314 Well do I have a recommendation for you. I literally did the exact same thing. I had a license plate sitting and waiting to be put on my new car and thought this would do the trick. It got the ice off but also scratched the hell out of my windshield.
A very good video cureing a common problem to day with Sand and other matter that scratches your Windcreen.
Glad you were finally able to get this fixed!
Me too. It was really bothering me but now I can drive with no distraction.
That is awesome! Had a storm back in December with freezing rain. Blades collected and stick with ice. Was able to get them moving which resulted in the ice literally cutting into the windshield. Had defrost on and literally was only going 25 mph. I was so mad. it was just replaced due to a hailstorm. Thankyou for this video. Huge saver!
Awesome. Thank you for watching.
Fantastic video. Thanks
I didn’t realize how bad my wipers were until it rained for 6 days in a row and they scratched my windshield. Definitely going to have to give this a try. Thank you for the video and proving it works.
How was it?
did you try and share the result?
@@prernaawasthi7346 I tried it my crack was a bit to deep for this. However if it was just slightly shallower it would have worked perfect. Wound up just replacing the windshield.
great job, just what I needed
Thank you so much.
Man i have glare problems in general but having streaks of light at night is a nightmare having streaks come on your side of the road i think it was my eyes at first going to try this before replacing it all together
Thanks for the video. I'll have to try this on my Avalanche. That has been one of those things that bugged me since I bought it.
It takes a little effort but was so worth it. That scratch was driving me crazy at night. :)
did you do that ? share your thoughts please.
This worked. i got most of it. have to go back to get some small spots i missed. thanks
Glad it helped
Good job... nice presentation !
Thank you so much. :)
Recently bought a fruit machine that somehow has a massive hairline scratch in the glass. This is exactly what I'm after, gonna order this kit!
Let me know how it works. This is a great idea.
Did you end up doing the whole windshield?
Hey John… Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Sorry if you’ve already answered this a in a previous post, but what speed did you put your cordless drill? I know they usually only come in TWO speeds. Was it set to the highest? I went ahead and ordered the product, so I’m hoping it will take out this dang minor rock scratch I just got last week due to a big wall of slush hitting me with a small rock getting aught under my wiper blade. Also, would it behoove me to tape off the section of the scratch? The windshield is only two months old. Thanks in advance!
Thank you so much for watching. Yes, the highest speed possible is what I went with. Take your time and don’t let the windshield get too hot. I didn’t tape anything off and I really can’t tell, so I don’t think that you need to. Let me know how it works out for you.
I just went to the dentist the other day to get a couple fillings fixed, and I'm having PTSD flashbacks to the sound of the drill and polisher listening to the drill.
Lol. Now that will be the only thing I hear when I watch it. Lol.
I had mine in 2012 and it haunts me to his day
🤣🤣🤣
Had some light razor blade scratches in the windshield (from trying to remove melted on rubber). Tried this product with both cordless & corded drill. Spent an hour using this to remove them. followed the instructions to the "T". Cleaned up the scratches, made them a little less obvious, but in the end didn't completely remove them (maybe took away 60% of them). maybe if I spent another couple hours I could get them out. Bottom line: don't expect this to be a "miracle cure".
Great info. Thank you.
Like dude that's magic bro plus I'm more of a BMW driver but stile your car is beautiful what model is that it's looks old skole love it
Thank you so much. It’s a Ferrari F430.
Thanks. On a side note, one has to be careful not to make a localised hollow which the wiper may skip over. I believe windshield glass is softer than general purpose.
Great point.
I really don't think one could make a "hollow" in the glass. It's not like using a belt sander with a grit 60 🤣
John, have you thought about using a lavalier mic to reduce/eliminate the echoing reverb in your videos? I believe they are not very expensive.
I do agree. I have one for my old setup but switched to the 77D and a Rode Mic. I guess I still need to work on the sound quality. :)
P
I have a gas glass top kitchen hob. The kitchen fitter left some really annoying scratches, I thinking of using this on it
Should come out well. Keep us posted.
Hey I’m sorry if you answered this question in a previous post. I loved the video and it was very informative. I had just got my windows tinted and saw that there are many scratches on it. Does this work for the driver and passenger windows as well? Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for the comment. Yes, you can use this on your side windows. Just make sure to take your time and not let it get too hot.
Nice, if you do this again I'd use better lighting, the most important thing for viewers to see on camera for this video is the before and after shots.
Thank you so much. :)
Impressive work 👏 especially on a Ferrari
Thank you so much. I was a little worried trying it out on the 430 but it worked well.
Ordered from Amazon, to remove light scratches from windshield , left from my watch clasp when I was cleaning. Removed them all. Used cordless drill, worked fine. Thanks
Awesome. Thank you for watching.
Anybody else feel like they were in the Dentist there.
I truly have a fear of the dentist and now every time I do this process, this is what I’m going to think about
wow! Have the same problem....I will try this product...thx. Great video...keep rockin!
Thank you so much. If it’s a light scratch this will help so much.
I was hoping to find a hack that doesn't involve a buffer (cordless drill) I do not have that and cannot afford it, but I am so glad that I am NOT the only one that knows that a scratch may not be a big deal to some people, but to those who have to drive it has to deal with it and it is distracting, annoying, and dangerous.
I totally agree.
Once i got into paint and polish i got rid of all my battery powered bs lol
My arms are too weak. Lol.
great vid
Thank you so much.
Well damn! it's working. My windshield, WRX, glass sucks balls. It's gotta be the softest windshield I've ever seen. Tons of microchips... like hundreds, if not more than 1,000. You can't really notice except at night or sun a certain way. Can't even feel them with my nails. So, i figured I'll try some cirium oxide polish, or maybe this kit, to get them out. Except that when I'm done, i'm probably going to get the outside of the windshield get a protector put on. It's like $500 bucks, but better than replacing a windshield.
Let me know how it goes?
Can I do it in cooler weather? It's in the 50s now and no garage. I bought this kit. Stupid me cleaned driverside windshield with water and a plastic scrubber pad, may have had fiberglass in it or something. Ty
That’s a great question. The colder the windshield the more chance of cracking.
Hi there John, what is the name of the kit you’re using here?
In the description
Did it leave any light scratch swirl marks where you polished out the scratch, or did it restore it to perfect clarity? How is visibility through the area at night with oncoming lights etc? That would be my main concern when trying to polish out the windshield on the drivers side. I tried a glass polishing product recently that left more swirls than it removed. I'm keen to test this one out if it can restore the windshield properly.
It will not leave scratches. It polishes it away. There is a slight distortion after during the product but 100% less distraction than before.
@@JohnEngel Did you say this distorts the windshield permanently where it's used?
@@kay9156 It really depends on how much you take off. My scratch was quite deep and it’s not a distortion that you can see while driving. It’s a distortion when you run your hand down the windshield you can feel a slight dip.
@@JohnEngel Thanks for your reply! That sounds a bit concerning though? Now I either have to live with a scratch or a dip in the windshield 😅.
Dang it looks like you are really bearing down hard on that drill. Do you need to have that amt of pressure for this to work? I'd be worried about too much heat generated by the drill.
It wasn’t the amount of pressure it was trying to keep it flat against the glass. Yes. I stopped often to make sure it didn’t get too hot.
What do you do when you have marking in the glass that are scratched with something in glass cleaning solution at a wawa gas station island ??? The scratches are as if a sharp diamond was cutting into the glass. Thanks John
You could give this a try but if they are deep, not much you really can do.
@@JohnEngel Let me be a little more descriptive. The swirls lines on the window are lines that have a prismish, glittery shine when the sun hits the glass when you are shiiting in the drivers seat. Hope that helps us touch base John. Thanks for your time. vf
@@victoryfirst2878 what year is the car? It sounds like it’s from the long use of a windshield. Not much you can do for that. You can try to seal it with a ceramic.
@@JohnEngel Thanks John. I will get a new car.
U have that expensive cars and u don't want to buy new glass 😂😂😂
Lol. You obviously have not looked at how much this cost.
they have another compound looks creamy brown I think for harsher scratches and the white as finish polish
That’s good to know. Thank you.
I have a vertical scratch on the rear passenger window glass, do you think I might be able to use this technique on the side windows? I think a tree branch caused the scratch.
Absolutely. Just go slow. You don’t want to hear the glass up too much too quick.
Anyone ever notice how the scratches always happen on the drivers side.
Right in your line of sight. I totally agree. 😂
I used toothpaste, and a buffer with a cordless drill to get out my scratches.
I’ll have to give this a try.
@@JohnEngel Don’t use any gel toothpaste. It has to be white toothpaste, because of it’s abrasive properties.
Hello! My car got Minor scratches from the wiper. Idk if this will help me to remove the scratches? I check out the product from your link in description on Amazon, but the product said not suitable for wiper blade scratches.
Thank you so much for the email. I used it for just that. As long as the scratches are not deep this product can help.
Was the glare from headlights at night reduced significantly or completely gone?
Significantly but not 100% gone. It made a huge difference.
Did the product do the cutting or did you have t bare down pretty hard ?
I used both. I did give a firm pressure but the product does the most work.
If possible can you please tell me the name of the cordless drill you used in the video.
It’s a DeWalt. :)
What do you use for driver side glass scratches?
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001RAQGXC/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=engelgroup-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B001RAQGXC&linkId=e6bee5afc95cfad0b5c137322e62f44c
Do not do this on side glass. The side glass is tempered and any disruption (especially thermal) can lead to shattering. The windscreen is not tempered.
thank you John i will buy it!!! i heard Colgate toothpaste clean the headlights is this true?
Thank you so much. A toothpaste is a decent way and a good start, but it will not take out as as deep of scratches.
You should check the temp of the windshield as you are polishing… it is layered..
Absolutely. I did just this.
Hey John, I have a scratch from my wiper that I can barely feel when I run my finger over it. Not very deep. Sound like this product will help reduce the scratch. Should I do toothpaste first, and then the product? Thanks great video
Absolutely try toothpaste first. I don’t think you will get enough result but it’s worth a try.
thanks for the quick response! I have one streak from the windshield wiper that must’ve scratched having debris. When I run my finger nail on the windshield it barely ticks when I run over it. It’s not deep. I’ve ordered the kit. Thanks! Any advice?
@@austinduriez the kit works well. I think it should do the trick. :)
Will this get rid of light scratches caused by wipers?
Absolutely.
Do you think this product can be used to clean headlight covers as well?
I wouldn’t use it on plastic. I do have a video on a great product got headlights.
Hi John, yes I do actually have a corded drill haha! That being said, what speed should I go with? Also, how long would you go over the scratch before you’d rest and then put water?
It states that you should have it on the fasted setting. When you are snaring you will see the water dry up quickly. Keep it lubricated and take breaks so it doesn’t get too hot.
@@JohnEngel thank you John!
Hi John, just a final follow up. Just got done performing this task on my windshield as I had a wiper arm streak from a storm I drove through that took off my blade. Yes, you’re absolutely right that you MUST have a high speed drill and must watch the heat. I took tons of break and used water constantly b/c I didn’t want to crack the windshield. Also, my first white pad got destroyed early somehow and I was so lucky to have the 2nd. It takes a lot of elbow grease and patience to get the look you want. In the end, I still have a slight streak but nothing very noticeable. The product works great and if I wouldn’t have destroyed the first pad I prob would of tried for the last little bit but I was very cautious about the heat and just stopped! Do you have any idea what type of pad that is so maybe buy aftermarket? 👍👍
Well that's my luck. Product no longer available. That's only the 3rd time today. LOL
amzn.to/4d7ZnhI
My brand new AMG service centre went AGAINST buffing it, i only I “HAVE” to replace the windshield 😡
lol. That sounds exactly like what Ferrari told me.
Can I do this without the machine lol
JOHN THANKS allot for sharing this with me and please can u send me the name of the product thanks and appreciations 👍🇩🇰👌
Thank you so much.
I have the same problem but I think they stopped selling that product on Amazon. Is there a similar one?

Any idea what could cause a fairly deep cut into one of Tesla’s glass roofs? Not as simple as a tree branch right?
That’s a great question. I have seen scratches from rocks falling off a truck on the highway. It would be deepest at the beginning.
All it does is when you use the power tool it just takes the cleaner stuff deeper into the stretch and that's why you can't see it no more but when it's rains all the stretches come back to life
So far that hasn’t been the case.
hey John after about a year does it still look good? is this something i can do and it last forever?
So far so good. This is a solution that will last. You are actually polishing the glass so if it is a light scratch this is a great method.
@@JohnEngel thanks so much

You defo need water spray and keep in cool as its laminated glass.
Wet sanding with #3000 grit sand paper by hand is far more effective.
how much pressure did you apply... if any?
I did use firm pressure. Just enough to keep control.
Check with your car insurance, you can get screens replaced cheaply without affecting your no claims, well in the UK anyway...
We have that as well. It won’t replace a windshield for a scratch. Plus these F430 windshields are on the thousands.
Hi I used a scotch brite pad on my whole windshield and it is full of tiny scratches Replacing the windshield is not an option what would you recommend, should I buy this kit or do you think ceranium oxide is better
I think this would do the trick.
@@JohnEngel is there enough of the solution to do my whole windshield or should i get the kit and the cerium oxide powder
@@arbaaztoor2559 you definitely can do that. There is enough in this kit to do your whole windshield.
Do u think its works rockhip scratch on windshield
If it’s cracked then I would use a epoxy. If it’s a light scratch than it would work great.
What product would I use to remove scratch/small nicks from a stone from my windshield?
You could try something like this.
czcams.com/video/63wfgZZZYL4/video.html
How do you remove scratches from inside of car windows?
You can use the same process but make sure that you cover everything before making a mess.
I don't get how it removes a deep scratch. Does it actually remove surrounding glass to make it level with the depth of the scratch?
So, if it is deep than this is not for you. It polishes the glass, so it actually removes a thin layer.
@@JohnEngel do you think 80 grit sanding scratches from an orbital sander would be too deep for it? I'm actually painting a bathroom and I stupidly got some sanding scratches on wall tile. It's glazed porcelain which is similar to glass.
Use rubbing compound
I tried that, but it didn't cut it much.
So I have to buy that machine?
Any drill will work.
As soon as you said you read the instructions, you lost me! hahahaha!
Lol. I know. I was disappointed in myself but I wanted to make sure the product came out right
