  • Here is a quick video showing which belts I progress through and where in the process I use them. This is continuing on with the blade I did the beginners heat treating on. I use these belts when I am looking to put a satin finish on a flat ground knife. If the blade was convex or had a more complex geometry I would use a different process. This is basically so I can avoid excessive hand sanding in the limited time I have after work at night.
    The Belts I used Were:
    Hermes CN466Z-50 grit
    Norton Blaze R980-120
    3M Gator A65 ( about 220 grit)
    Norax U264-X30 (about 600 grit)
    Norax U264-X16 (about 1200 grit)
    Hermes Cork - 600 grit
    Hermes Cork - 800 grit
Then I start hand sanding at 600 grit.

Great video, This will certainly help me advance in grinding to the satin finish. Is there a reason you start your grinding at the point of the knife? Ben

Hi Ben, I decide which end based of where I think needs more work. I never noticed how much I did it until you pointed it out. When I get my shop set back up I might to a video on my grinding technique. Might help someone, even if its just me ;)
