      Nobulle
This is sad because there are like maybe 2,0000 to 5,0000 children around the world that do not receive a diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes and what's even worse is none of the doctors in Missouri wanted to help me.

as someone who has had t1 for well over 16 years, i have never felt this type of enthusiasm for my disease. i simply felt that she portrays diabetes as "fun" and she always seems proud to be a diabetic in her videos. although i am grateful for modern technology that allows me to manage and live day to day, diabetes is no joke. there is nothing fun or exciting about it. also, i don't believe my comment seemed in any way offensive, unlike yours.

DEXCOM - Keeping the Bandage Sticky::: What destroys the adhesive is "moisture". Directly after a shower press tissue paper on the bandage to soak up the initial moisture. Then use a hair dryer (warm setting-not hot) and wave the dryer air over the bandage. Feel the bandage to determine dryness. It will dry the bandage allowing the adhesive to keep working. I've used this process and the bandage is sticking until the next change.
And no, it does not hurt the transmitter. DD, you are the best!

I'm glad I found your video posts. I'm looking forward to sharing these with my daughter. She was diagnosed 3 years ago. She passed out from a low and had a hard time dosing after that. We got her the older Dexcom about a year or so ago to help with that. It isn't very accurate and loses the signal quite often. We were told we could upgrade to this model. Based on the results of the older model I wasn't sure it was worth the expense to upgrade, but after seeing this I think it is worth the money

Two things stop me from using CGM with my Medtronic:
    1. Cost, but I think I would save on strips, so it's not a straight up cost comparison.
    2. Sites, I have trouble finding two sites all the time. One for the infusion site, and another for the CGM sensor.
I do use it once or twice a year for a while to fine tune my pump settings.
Love your videos, great to hear someone else having the same thoughts!

Taylinn, Great question! I've had type 1 diabetes for 16 years and have been my science lab for quite some time. What works for me may not work for you, but be open to trying new plausible ideas. I am very active and have little insulin sensitivity. I use a pump with Humalog insulin and it takes 25 min. for body to respond to an insulin dosage. The spike also will be different based on the foods you consume. Stay away from simple carbs like snickers, cereal, white grain products.

I just wanted to say thanks for the great videos about the Dexcom G4. A google search for a review brought me to you're videos and were a major factor in pushing me to improve my diabetes care. As a healthy well regulated 37 y/o that has been type 1 for over 24 years I decided that everyone can work a little harder to keep there BS in check. Dexcom was great to work with and the G4 is a great device.
    Keep up the great work....:)

I quickly dried it off with a towel and put it in a bag of raw rice. And it came back to life.Amazing! Won't do that again! I just got a temporary clinic test version. It amazes me. I'm using it to figure out basal right now. Experimenting nightly trying to pinpoint how I could get that line. Sadly I do not have a pump yet. It has told me things I could have never known. I was dipping low at night and popping back up without waking something I would have never realized without CGM. I'm relieved to see someone else doesn't have a straight line either. And yes I've been pushing that button constantly.

Type 1 is a genetic diabetes unlike type 2 that can be a result of a lifestyle choice. Like any adversity that we can face in life you can either embrace it and be happy or feel sorry for yourself. When my 9 year old daughter was diagnosed with it we weren't particularly happy but you make the best of the situation. It sounds like Danica has opted to make the best of what she has to deal with. If you know anybody that has type 1 diabetes it is not easy.

After watching your review I contacted Dexcom in Australia and found that the sensors are $396Aus ($413 US) for a pack of 4 (so basically a months worth). Wow... That's a fair bit out of the budget for us. I can make do without it for now, but we're bracing ourselves for the future if I go down this path and need a CGM. Thanks for your review, good job.

Hi! My 7 year old wears one and we love it...she says it doesn't hurt to insert. which is better than the insertion of her pump site (Animas). Before her first insertion, because she was scared, I found a video on CZcams of a little boy about Henry's size getting his sensor inserted. His was a Dex 7 but the insertion looks the same. It made her much less scared after watching that.

I just got one yesterday (in blue), and I'm already pretty proficient in using it -- pretty intuitive. Already I find that it helps when, two hours after eating, it shows my BG at, say, 225 and that I'm trending upwards. Though my pump might recommend 0 insulin because there's still two-hours worth onboard, I'll take a unit or so because I know more than the pump does about that uptrend. One downside: I look in the mirror at my otherwise perfect body (well, I'm working on it), and I react to this thing the way you initially did: "gi-normous" is right, and not too attractive either. I'm hoping in the near future, they'll shrink that transmitter and make it look less horrific. Or maybe I just have to get used to it. (But I'm not going to be seen with it at any public pool, for fear someone might pass out at the sight of it and drown.)
Now I just need a new pump. (My old one is a Medtronics 522.) I'm torn between T-Slim and the One-Touch (Animus) Ping: The former has a cool touch screen, and the latter, just like the Dex, has a remote.

Hi! My 7 year old has had the Dex G4 for 2 1/2 months now and we are loving it so much. She does great with it. I do the insertions for her, but she handles the calibrations. I think it will take bigger hands for her to be able to insert herself. She says the sensor insertion hurts less than the pump site insertion...says the sensor really doesn't hurt at all. The sensor has a very small diameter.

I've been wanting a CGM for years now. But insurance won't cover it :/
But since I have a Medtronic pump, it would be the Medtronic CGM. I had a trial of theirs put in for 3 days of testing, but it didn't work for some reason and that left me going "well eff you Medtronic!" haha.
But my main thing is I want to be alerted to low BS's during the night. Nothing sucks more than waking up in the 30-40s... or having the ambulance guys wake you up since you couldn't be woken up normally.

Isn't it true that it takes 5 to 15 minutes for a change in BGL to "seep" through the tissue and reach the sensor? So if the BGL was changing rapidly then there would be a difference in a finger stick reading and the sensor reading. But if the BGL was stable or slowly changing then the finger stick reading and the CGM reading would be close.
If your low alarm is set for 50 and the BGL was dropping rapidly, then by the time the alarm sounds your actual reading could be 40 or even lower. Correct?

Then the meter, and all that in your bag? 2. CGM, can you use it just taking Lantus & Humalog via shots? 3.For working out, does it have a clip? 4.Insurance coverage? (I'm always low in the night,@ 7 I had a baby monitor in my room. I would cry, be low and not wake up.) For the sensor can you compare it to a quarter.

Could anyone tell me how do I get my blood sugar to NOT spike after eating a meal? I've tried taking my insulin 10-15 minutes before I eat! I'll try anything! Maybe eating less or what? Please help! It will spike to about 230+ then most of the time go back to normal.

I tried the CGM with my Medtronic Pump and I HATED it. It would alarm me in the middle of the night saying I was like 40 and I tested and I was like 101. Maybe I should try the Dexcom. Also it was always showing as out of range from the sensor...even during the doctor's visit with the Medtronic rep. Do you know if being around a bunch of say laptops and monitors will interfere? I am in IT and that is my environment.

Hi I'm an investor and I'm interested in investing this company. As a patient, do you see this product absolutely better than Medtronics one and do you see more and more people will use that this year? Thank you!

I believe it is more accurate than Medtronic, yes!
I'd guess more people would use it, it is really growing as a great way to help manage diabetes!!

Haha That's A Great Name! It IS Creative! Haha I Cant Name Mine Cant Think Of One! And Should I Get A CGM Because I Have Really Bad Numbers! Im Either High Or Low...

have you ever tried a different one, ive seen other vids where the actual attached part is MUCH smaller, and that is on older videos, I would have thought they would have shrunk some, not grown!! I would catch that on EVERYTHING. Im a big girl though, LADA type1.5. Is there one, I wonder, that connects with the pump and can automatically fix stuff like highs and lows? OR am I looking into the future with that heh?

No, but I know about the others. Are you referring to the small circle-shaped one? While it is smaller, I have it heard that it is quite inaccurate compared to the Dexcom. Apparently it also REALLY hurts to put in, its produced by Medtronic. And I'd rather have mine be a bit smaller and actually work well, ya know?
And yes, the medtronic pump just came out with a paired CGM that detects a low and then automatically shuts of insulin at a certain point. Its the Minimed 530G with Threshold Suspend. Eventually they want a "closed loop" system, where the pump/cgm detects the blood sugar, and then corrects it itself! They havent quite perfected it yet though, but there have been trials!

***** thank you for the info! You have a very good attitude, and you will be an excellent instructor... as soon as you get rid of these ada pipe dreams of high carb diets for diabetics ;). Listen to your meter, I see you've already started to with ditching the bagels, keep making note of what spikes your sugar and what doesn't, and don't think just adding more fat or protein is the total answer, that will delay the spike but not avoid it entirely. Also remember that new studies show damage begins at 140, not 250, so trying to stay below that number is the only way to avoid all the effects of this disease, and more insulin is much more dangerous for keeping tight control than less carbs. Ive found with a strict low carb high fat diet ive been able to bring my sugars down dramaticly, yet use LESS insulin in my bolus. Basal is about the same. My averages went from 350 to under 140 in just a week, with one third less of a bolus following a diet high in protein, fat, and just a few (under 50 grams a day, usually less than 30 a day) complex carbs, the best being leafy greens and the few carbs that are found in fattier dairy, like cream and cheese, or seeds and nuts. Because of the high fat and moderate protein levels I don't get hungry, though overall im taking in quite a bit less calories than I was with my high carb low fat diet before. But don't take my word for it, please at least check out the diabetesforum.com site, there are many many others doing the same thing with the same results, diabetics of every type, 1, 1.5, and 2. main difference being the types 1 and 1.5 of course are not able to stop their insulin, unfortunately, since our disease is autoimmune and right now can only be treated, not cured, but the type 2s, even those on insulin are often able to either dramaticly reduce or eliminate their dependence on insulin.
