I've been on Medtronic pumps for 12 years so I don't have any experience with other Insulin Pumps. I have had good luck with the 780 and Guardian 4 sensor. My last A1C was 5.8 the best I have ever had being T1.

780g is working well for me. TIR last 30 days is 86%. AIC is 6.3. New sensor packaging will get to the USA someday… waiting on FDA seems to be my biggest problem with Medtronics products. Hope you post more about this pump. Less alarms, sleeping thru the night, eating like a regular human. 780 quality of life is good. Good luck Danica. I’ve learned so much from your channel as I started using an insulin pump 4 years ago. Miss your regular updates. I wish you all the best.

I've been on the 780 software upgrade with the new Guardian 4 Transmitter and Sensor 4 sensors for 6 months now. You CAN use the sensor on your abdomen with no difference in accuracy per every customer service rep, technician, in person reps, docs. That way a single person can still use the tape system, which honestly needs to be replaced.
Since last July at my upgrade, my a1c came down 7 to 6. The new algorithm is amazing in how it watches your level trends and adjusts your basal accordingly. My highs have been drastically reduced even after eating and forgetting to bolus and lows are nonexistent now.
I'm looking forward to what future things Medtronic will be bringing out.

I've been using a Medtronic pump for about 17 yrs. I hadn't realized how much sleep I've lost from all the alarms with the guardian 3. The guardian 4 sensor and 780g update is life-changing!
Coming from the guardian 3, I am used sensor failures and the frustration that comes with it. That being said, with the guardian 4 when it fails I've found that charging it for a bit and then selecting "reconnect sensor" resolves the issue and I can use it for the full 7 days.

I switched to Tandem from Medtronic after having 5 different generation pumps with them. I found the Tandem pump to be more innovative with more convenience features. ControlIQ worked well for me, and I adore the Dexcom sensor. I personally found the recharging feature more annoying than helpful (give me a simple battery to change that I can get anywhere).
I switch back to Medtronic about a year ago on recommendation of my provider based upon the advances of the Guardian feature. I agree the form factor of the pump and sensor is straight out of the early 2000s...old and dated interface and form. Their sensor setup is just as bad and has not really changed since they moved from the original 45-degree c-shaped needle inserter death machine (what an amazing advancement in BG measurement...that always scared the heck out of me inserting!).
I am in total agreement with Danica. The Guardian algorithm is by far the best I have used. Top marks to Medtronic for purchasing the capability. It really does work.
My hope going forward is that Medtronic returns to their original Minimed innovation culture. Release the new sensor on time, and design a form factor and interface to match your algorithm innovation.

Great video and agree with all points made. Was on a Medtronic pump for 20+ years (starting with 530 and working my way up) but they took too long to get to the 780g out so I switched to Tandem X2 Tslim. Love the form factor, modern design and Dexcom sensors but I had a lot of trouble with it. Lots of lows and often on a roller coaster. It just didn’t work for me. I recently switched back to Medtronic to the 780g and I LOVE this pump in Smartguard. I am in range ~95% of the time and the unique algorithm is where this pump excels - it’s like wearing a pancreas. It does all of the work and decides when I need or don’t need insulin and how much and gives corrections when I need it. This has been life changing and I’m so happy to be on the 780g.

Hello and thank you for telling here your experience. Personally I use the Sensor on my abdomen and use only one of the two tapes so I can easily switch off on the transmitter if needed. I worked hard with my doctors during six months for adapting the ratios. We found a way and now it works ok without the hyperglycemias and the autobolus disminishing the bolus with the help of my doctors and Medtronic. It's incredible to watch the system working sometimes hard to maintain a good glycemia. I want to say also that we are all different and our diabete also, our age our morphology, our activity etc etc.. Good Luck everybody and thank you.

Welcome to the medtronic family! I’ve been a medtronic ambassador since when the 670G was released. I’m really looking forward to the Simplera sync coming out in the near future. The 780G has been a major improvement for me and my TIR has really improved. I definitely suggest using the patches for the G4 like the stayput patches you can buy in the medtronic shop. It has made it a lot more easier for me to keep the sensor on.

I’ve been on 780 pump for almost a year now. What I’ve found is wearing the sensor 4 on my arm is truly a blessing and no problems whatsoever.
Prior to this I was using Sensor 3 and always had problems because I had it on my abdomen and Medtronic never once told me to use my arm instead.
I thank god every day for the 780 and new sensor 4 for its accuracy!
Good Luck with your new pump!

A little secret, the Sensor 4 is actually the Sensor 3. They just repackaged it and made it so you can't extend it past 7 days. I can't see how anyone wears it on their arm. I know, to each his/her own. Just everything involved in applying it is pathetic. I wear mine on the stomach and didn't have any problems with the 3. It was the 4 when I started having issues. 0:11 Considering what's out there now. The new Simplera would be a game changer if they made it to work with the 780g, but nope, it doesn't yet. How ignorant can you be. The premier pump company making a cgm that doesn't work with the best pump out there!! All the best and good luck!!

I have been using the 780G-Smartguard 4 combo for about 6 months. It’s been fabulous. My A1C is in the low 6s, My time in range at my last Dr. visit was 96%. Previously, I had A1Cs in the high 5s but lots of lows, none too scary. I can now go to bed with bs about 100 and not worry about going low. If I go high at night (late night snacking), I still wake up around 100-120. I use my abdomen for both extended infusion set and Smartguard sensor. Putting the clunky sensor on my upper arm is very difficult for me. I converted from the Dexcom G7. I loved it! For about 3 weeks, I wore both the Dexcom and the Smartguard. I actually found the Smartguard 4 to be more accurate when compared to bs meter. I gave up on the Smartguard taping system. I insert the sensor and overtape with a strip of Opsite Flexifix (this stuff is great, comes in a long roll, 4inches wide, cut in approximately 1.5inch strips). That’s my story, I hope it helps.

Nice! Sounds like you are off to a very promising experience with Medtronic. We are so lucky to have many pump options on the market to find the right one for individual preferences.
I defected from Medtronic after 20 years, and opted for Tandem t:slim with Control IQ with Dexcom G7 as opposed to the Medtronic 780G and its improved wear time and sensor. But I never looked back. My A1C went from 7s to 5.9, 6.2. I’m very happy with the color touch screen and slim profile. So easy and don’t miss scrolling through menus. Just slips in a pocket. Charging is easy & often I just plug in a power bank while watching a movie. And getting glucose readings on my watch and bolusing from my phone make it a great fit for me. It not for everyone obviously. With G7 there’s no separate transmitter to charge and its warm up time is only 30 minutes. If you’re really ambitious, you can time the insertions to have continuous CGM readings.

I almost always wear my CGM sensor on my upper thigh kind of hip area. Where my underwear kind of protects the over-tape. I don't know how many times my sensor has failed at 6 days and not 7. Great vlog Danica - I am in-between pumps at the moment (an Animas user like you - before they disappeared). I was really surprised to hear you were going to stick with the 780G - but hopefully the sensor application will one day be similar to the others on the market at current - otherwise - I probably would have not returned the pump to Medtronic. It did a few wonky things in Auto Mode that almost required an ER visit - with no explanation when away from the home base - very scary - so decided to just use whatever comes along from friends with good benefits here in the land of Oh Canada - where while we have healthcare coverage (sorta) via our taxes - when it comes to Pharmacare / Technology coverage - it's hit / miss depending on where you live sad to say. Keep on doing your thing here in the DOC !!! Woof Woof!!

Been on medtronic for 2 years. Hate hate hate them.. this 780 pump NEVER stops beeping, wakes me up at least once a night, usually more, meh accuracy... the endless alarns are my biggest complaint, beep for calibration, beep youre low ( but after eatimg so passing UP past the trigger point) or BEEP youre high ( passing down past high trigger ) ohh yeah, it often fails early. Also wtf is up with the stop bolus ?
If you accidentally were giving too much insuling and want rmergency stop of delivery its a multi step process.
Bolus - stop bolus - are you sure? Right click, "yes"
No testing at all i think, how does emergency stop take so many steps while its still dosing?
Also, have been in range ( auto mode ) 87% of the time for over 3 months according to the pump.. jusy got my a1c results, my a1c is 8.7mmol.. so no, not in range at all.. pump cgm lying
I alsodont for the life of me understand why i cannot just give insulin, gavr to lie to the pump and input carbs... why would you taje away a diabetics ability to simply give a correction bolus dose ?

Yes I was surprised by the outcome to your review. I became a T1 at age 48. I used the 530g Medtronic purple pump. I loved that pump while the sensor worked. When my transmitter needed replacing I then got too many inaccurate readings. I actually used the Dexcom G5 sensor with it until my warranty was up. I then went to Tandem Tslim, transitioned to Basal IQ and then took a pump break.
I was introduced to Afrezza for my bolus and used Tresiba for my Basal and never looked back. I have since had to change my basal to Lantus due to insurance. But once I found my dose. I am staying 78-85% in range at the moment.
Have you reviewed Afrezza. Great for stubborn highs as well.

My first pump was Medtronic Paradigm 723, then I used the Accu-Chek Insight followed by Tandem T-Slim. I am now using Omnipod 5 and finding it quite good but the pods are a lot more bulky compared to the tubing sites, so you have to be a bit more creative about places to put them. People are complaining a lot (in the UK) about the algorithm for correction on OP5, plus we don't have the app on our phones capability yet (we never had that for Tandem either). I guess I wanted to try a tubeless pump to see what it's like after 12 years on tube based pumps.

I have had every model Medtronic pump since the 508 , some 35 years ago. While the 780g seems like a huge step in the right direction, the combo of the 670g and the g3 CGM was a nightmare from day one. 60% of the time I would get a failure during the two hour warmup. Of the remaining 40% failed 2 - 4 days into its user life. Rarely did I go the full amount of time. Back then there was no returning the bad one and get a replacement policy as there is now. My insurance would only provide enough for 30 days. You had one fail you had to buy your own replacement.
Overall I am returning the 780g unopened because of insurance won’t cover the new g4 CGM. Since my 670g died, I’m switching to the T:slim x2 & the G7. And I should note that ordering the 780g AND all the CGM supplies was a nightmare dealing with the Medtronic rep and the 3’rd party Medtronic’s vendors. Just not worth the overall hassle from Medtronic’s. They are not the great company they were 35 years ago.

I have a Medtronic Insulin Pump. I used the first Generation CGM they had and upgraded my Medtronic Insulin Pump solely for having the CGM. I completely agree with you. I love the insulin pump. I can't stand the CGM. The sensor felt like having tiny copper wires in your skin. The CGM itself was constantly innaccurate in terms of the blood sugar readings. I went back to using a bluetooth blood sugar meter and just syncing it with my app on my phone. Much easier. A lot more cost effective, 70 strips for $25, less upkeep. Most of all more accurate readings. The insulin pump aspect is the best thing.

I am shocked, surprised, startled that you have more time in range with the Medtronic pump. Maybe they have completely changed their algorithm with the new pump compared to their old 670G pump. And maybe their new CGMS is much more accurate than their old CGMS. Maybe the entire Medtronic world has flipped and changed from the past. We abandoned Medtronic for the Tandem / Dexcom 2 years ago. The Medtronic pumps are pretty much bullet proof, however their entire CGM system leaves a lot to be desired. Accuracy, crapping out after 1 or 2 days happened often, and then the overall design was very poor compared with the Dexcom. As you stated the tape deal is a total fiasco. Dexcom stumbled getting the G7 to market, so Medtronic had an open opportunity to set a new standard, imo they completely blew it.

I wore Medtronic for over 8 years (530 and 630) and couldn’t wait to get the T-Slim and Dexcom. But that was mostly because of the Medtronic CGM being so clunky and not being covered by Medicare, so after a while I didn’t even have a clunky CGM. It wasn’t covered because it had to be calibrated and that was also inconvenient

I am really struggling with not getting G4 sensors from Medtronic due to back ordered supplies. I have hypoglycemia unawareness and it’s dangerous for me to not have a CGM. I decided yesterday to switch to the Tandem T Slim X2 and Dexcom G7. I will admit that I am nervous because I have been on Medtronic pumps for the majority of the last 22 years, minus pump breaks. I think making the change will be scary, but I will feel more secure knowing I won’t be dealing with sensor supply shortages. I truly don’t understand how a company can sell so many pumps, but not ensure that they have adequate supplies to ship to customers. That is truly my only reason for leaving Medtronic.

I'm a newly diagnosed Type 1 diabetic. I've had the Medtronic 780g for 2 months. I was doing 4 shots per day for 2 months. I do like that I don't have to jab myself any more!
My sensors have only lasted 7 days one time - I average 4.5 days! Annoying. Every time I read "Sensor updating" I know I'll have to replace it.
I'm still undecided about this whole setup.

Do you put the sensor on your arm? Ever since I’ve been doing that never had a problem unlike the sensor 3 which was a disaster always failing because of using it on the abdomen.

@@mariesmith8076 Yes, always on my arm. I am on Keytruda for cancer - it killed my pancreas and thyroid so figuring this out is a challenge. But it shouldn't have anything to do with the sensor... As I said, I'm still undecided about this setup! :)

I've only used Medtronic pumps, and about 6 months ago, I started using 780g with G4 sensors. The G4 sensors are so inaccurate that I am looking to go back to Libre3. Sometimes, the reading from G4 is 100 points different from my glucometer.

OOOOOHHHHHHH i hope your sure .... haha I am a current Medtronic user started on 670 then 770 and now 780 I was first on Animas. I love my 780 but I hate the sensor we here in Canada are still on sensor 3 sadly :( I am working on trying to get on to the tandem tslim 2.... haven't committed yet just asking questions in working on the coverage part...mostly for my Dexcom. the pump is fully covered... i wish you lived next door would love to chat about our experiences haha .... good luck I hope you like it, and yes don't get me wrong!!!!!!!! I have great control and about 90% in range with my 780 but hate the archaic sensor that i am forced to wear

I am the same as you with the Guardian sensor too. I was allowed to trial the 780G in January 2023 - and got to keep it for almost 6 months. Sadly, I decided against staying with it, due to some weird problems occurring that shouldn't have with the SmartGuard system, but if it hadn't been for that - I probably would still be on it ... IF .. the sensor was an all in one like other CGM's on the market!

Hello, wonderful videos! However, you keep saying you are using MiniMed™ Mio™ Advance Extended infusion set...but according to Medtronic, the Mio Advance and The Extended infusion sets are two different infusion sets. Am I wrong? If so, I sincerely apologize.

    • @DiabeticDanica
      @DiabeticDanica  Před 3 měsíci

Yes, I think you’re right it is technically just called the Extended infusion set but the reason I call it the Mio Advance Extended is because it is the exact same setup as the Mio Advance, except it can be worn for 7 days. So I think of them as Mio Advance regular or Mio Advance Extended! Haha, just my brain 😊 I figure eventually they’ll extend other types too, but I guess we’ll see!

    1. The adhesive residue is a annoyance BUT get UniSolve adhesive remover wipes used for IV dressing removal. Amazon $9/box of 50. Juicy enough to take the adhesive off your skin and off the transmitter. Note: leave the transmitter plugged into the old sensor while taking down the adhesive around it because it MUST be sealed to avoid any liquid getting into the transmitter prongs OR pick off the dressing to free it from the transmitter WITHOUT any adhesive remover, then plug in the green TESTER in the transmitter to seal it and then apply adhesive wipe to clean it, wipe dry with tissue before removing tester plug and the apply to new sensor. 2. Goal of SG is 100 but most providers start at 120 with active insulin time of 3hrs because until the Smartguard has enough sensor session data to adjust the rate of basal and auto correction specific to your body response, 100 /2hrs can be a bit aggressive resulting in lows. Over adjustment and AI learning time, the goal can be tightened up.

I do not recommend Medtronic. The user is not the focus. I have had many issues over the years with poor customer service. First when I upgraded to the 770g I was told there would be no cost passed along. Then I was give a 3,000 dollar bill. Until the new sensor the pumps were nothing but constant alerts. This week I tried to order supplies on Monday, was told on Wednesday they are out, after I had to follow up, and cannot be mailed for another 2 weeks. This was with no notice that supplies were on back order or that people should order them early. Maybe it would have been bad PR but at least it would have let people plan for the issue. Medtronic only adjusted their sensor years after the competition did. This is not their core business and as a medical supply company they cant even do that.

I won’t try it. Their previous products have lacked common sense in their design. This is a local company and I want to support them, but I won’t, because I don’t think they have a clue when it comes to …well anything.

    @user-otzlixr Před 2 měsíci +1

I won’t do the 780. The 680 was so dumb I’m going to wait for the other companies to catch. Medtronic seems like they lack common sense. To have a fire alarm for a calibration warning is so dumb. I have to tell all my coworkers I’m diabetic because of this fire alarm.
I hope Medtronic goes out of business to allow other companies with competent designers to implement basic usability .😂

I’ve been on a Medtronic pump now for just over 4 years and been through the 670g, 770g and for the last 6 months the 780g.
I had issues with the Dexcom G6 like you were having with the Medtronic G4 and is the reason I starting pumping with the Medtronic pumps.
Last year I got to test the Dexcom G7 while I was still using the 770g and really liked the G7 and was going to switch to it when my warranty on my Medtronic pump expired.
But I got to do the software upgrade on my 770g to make it a 780g before the warranty ran out and absolutely love the 780g.
I can tell you when you start a new G4 sensor after the warm up period, if it is more than 20% off, wait a few hours before doing the first calibration. For me, it gets more accurate in a few hours if you don’t eat.
I check my blood glucose when I wake up in the AM at bedside before my dawn phenomenon kicks is. Most times the sensor is only 5-10 points off and I will not calibrate. The less you calibrate, the better the 789g likes it. At least for me.
I am in range 80-95% of the time, my A1c is down from low 7’s to 6.5.
Welcome to the Medtronic family and I hope it does for you what it has done for me.

I forgot to add, I use skin grips instead of their tape. Easier to put on, take off and very little tape residue.
