    Many Pokemon Trainers ask the question, is it worth it to buy an Elite Trainer Box?
    This video will examine and evaluate the possible answers to that question, but remember that this video’s conclusion is just that: this video’s. The real conclusion that matters most is your own, given your needs as a Pokemon Trainer. Hopefully this evaluation can help you in making that determination, but that is all it is: a guide, meant to assist.
    An Elite Trainer box contains the following. One storage box, capable of holding 550 unsleeved cards or 300 sleeved cards. A Player’s Guide. Eight booster packs from the appropriate set, in this case, steam siege, 65 exclusive sleeves, 4 cardboard dividers, a 45 card Energy pack, 6 damage-counter dice and 1 competition-legal coin-flip die, and 2 acrylic counters for poison and damage, and an online code to receive the exclusive sleeves and a deck box on Pokemon Online. This is in addition, of course, to the online codes contains within each of the booster packs.
    The MSRP on Elite Trainer boxes is $39.99 US. However, depending on the set and perhaps your local game store, they can often be acquired for below MSRP, and in rare cases above.
    The total value of all these items is approximately
    8 Booster Packs, over the counter at your local game store, will cost you $32.00, so that means that the remaining contents need to be worth over 8 dollars to be considered worth it from a strictly financial perspective.
    While prices vary, going by overwhelming availability online, the remaining contents is worth approximately $16.65, bringing the total value of an Elite Trainer box to 48.65, while not stupendously above MSRP, well enough above it that it is fair to say the box is worth it.
    However, consider this, many times stores and online sellers can offer Elite Trainer boxes for below MSRP, and thus for each dollar below 39.99 that you can get an elite trainer box for, it becomes that much more worth it.

    I'm pretty sure Pokemon videos are here to show Magic players how a good product from a fair company looks like.

    • @TolarianCommunityCollege
      @TolarianCommunityCollege  Před 7 lety +89

      That's a big part of it. Buy a paper Pokemon product, get it online for free. I'll have a video about Pokemon Online and what MTGO can learn from it soon.

    • @szymonkoziarski2168
      @szymonkoziarski2168 Před 7 lety +8

      To be honest, supply and demand has a part in it - the moment Fat Packs had something of value in them (full art lands), many LGSs jacked up the prices immediately. These boxes have tons of value, but can sell under MSRP.

    • @slushyftk2221
      @slushyftk2221 Před 7 lety

      I've never used MTGO, but I heard that implementing such a system would make it difficult to have set redemption. Is this true? Set redemption seems like it is itself an interesting way to tie online prices to paper prices, so I'm not sure if it would be worth it.

      Mr_Romo they haven't been publishing Pokémon since the original Ruby & Sapphire block. Nintendo got the license back from them, and have been publishing it ever since. in other words, Pokémon has been a non-Wizards game way longer than it was a Wizards game.

      DaBloodsploder Krieg Original MSRP was $75. But I was talking about having swag, not having a reasonable price point. If it's not ridiculously overpriced cardboard, it's not a WotC product.

    Due to your coverage of Pokemon I decided to try to play Pokèmon. Thanks to the ability to play the game free online I was able to learn how to play and am now thoroughly excited to get cards and play in real life.
    Thank you for your great videos.

    This is cool - I grew up with YuGiOh and have played Magic but have never played the Pokemon card game, before.

    I bought one of these a while back... I love love LOOOVE the sleeves and the tiny dice. I use the dice as damage counters in Pokemon and +1/+1 counters in MtG. It'm also a collector and love having the players guide to check off the cards I have. I think it's funny that cutting a pack and adding in a few scattered items makes an Elite Trainer Box more worth a Fat Pack.

    Damn, nice pulls! That Gardevoir is pretty sweet. My wife pulled one a few weeks ago, and we're using it in a Florges EX build.
    The biggest issue I take with these is that the gamble in card value is even worse than with Magic. Other than that, I think all the extra little trinkets, along with the code cards make them pretty nice value wise. Having code cards in Magic would make for a nice step towards MTGO not sucking shit, so that's how we know it will never, ever happen.

    Legendary pulls Prof! As someone who's been playing Pokemon longer than Magic it's great to see Pokemon content, it's a very viable TCG, though not as complex and deep as Magic, it's still a very good game especially for Pokemon fans.

    One thing I wish was a thing was if they gave you more pack arts of the Pokémon on the box I think this would be really cool or maybe a promo holo with said Pokémon.

  • @ModelOmegaForReal
    @ModelOmegaForReal Před 7 lety

    I don't even play Pokemon TCG but it's still neat to see the Prof do these vids, both for a comparative sense and yes because it's always nice to branch out and reach new viewers. Plus if I ever decide to play it, I know where to find quality advice on what to get.
    Thinks you might cover any other trading card games?

    5:45 Put a top loader at each end of the box to prevent damage to the contents. Using an empty sleeve box (if you buy them that way) as a spacer until the box is full is also helpful.

    You can remove the inner lid on the box top. I always do that in order to keep the cards safe. It is only stored in there with a bit of friction.
