    Many Pokémon Trainers ask the question: Is it worth it to buy a Pokemon tin. Once used as a way to introduce new cards into standard, Pokemon Tins now attempt to deliver needed reprints, a stylish storage system, and a barrage of boosters. But is this an item that raises the value of your Poke Dollars, or an
    While this review will focus on the recently released tins for sun & moon, it is also going to attempt to take a larger overview of the product, examining past trends and making future predictions. As always, my evaluation of this product is just that, my own. In the end it is your evaluation which matter most. With that being said, let’s take looK!
    A Pokemon Tin contains the following...
    * 1 of 2 foil Pokémon-GX or previously EX cards:
    * 4 Pokmon TCG booster packs.
    * A code card to unlock the foil GX cards as well as a playable deck in the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online
    There’s a lot of value here. Excluding the tin, which I will discuss in a moment, if we use an over the counter price of $4.00 each for the Pokemon booster packs, and the online code at $1.00 each, we see a total value of $17.00 on this product. At an average cost of 17.99, it means you are paying 99 cents for the foil GX card.
    Now, if we wanted to be a bit more conservative here, we can look at the fact a booster box costs about $100 for 36 packs, thus bulk buys result in a cost of about 2.75 each. That gives us a bulk value of 11 dollars and, thus means you are on average paying about 5.99 for the included foil GX card. Oh, and of course there’s the included tin.

    I have a few of these tins from my younger days. While obviously not great as a deck box, I use them to store tokens, dice, coins, and extra cards as well as instructions and play mats. Basically everything but your deck should go in them.

    Sigh... I wish WotC would pickup their game, these pokemon products are so much better than almost every supplemental MTG product, they hit high price cards. And the foiling looks a hell of a lot better than it does on recent MTG cards which is so dark you can hardly see any detail.

    • @Rantaku
      @Rantaku Před 7 lety +9

      Joshuabrutl The secret rares are expensive but you don't NEED them. Secret rares are the full art or rainbow holos, not the regular GX or EX cards. And even then those aren't expensive. If I want a play set of Decidueye it's like 45$ where as a card like that in MTG is 20$ each easily

    As a MTG player, it really surprised me when I found out how much some of the newer Pokemon cards are going for. If it prints money though, Im game.

    Yeah, not a fan of the show or the TCG (is that sacrilegious to admit?), but I absolutely love the products they release. I wish Wizards would do special edition tins, boxes, collections, and make foils that don't curl as easily (Pokemon has figured this problem out). Could you imagine MTG products like the EX Collection boxes? Little Jace figurines, special foils, ect. I rarely crack packs as I don't want to spend $40 or $100 for mostly bulk, but I would love the chance to do so when buying affordable collections that contain only 4-8 boosters. The online code and ability to play the Pokemon TCG client on both Mac and Windows is also brilliant.

    for what its worth i tend to use the tin to carry my old deck boxes, some of the art boxes i've had for years will occasionally pop open so when the box is in a tin the cards can't go anywhere. and if you are unaware the code cards in tins give you a full playable deck online.

    Also value of the tins can go by the different packs inside. Say a 2012 turtwig tin will be worth alot more than a venesour ex tin because it has older packs that were not printed into oblivion and are more sought after because they are more finite as well as older and harder to obtain.

    • @stes202
      @stes202 Před 7 lety

      Yes you can pull EX GX cards from boosters, these are the regular versions with a number xx off xx, Solgaleo GX is 89/149 followed by a small star to denote it's a rare. These cards that come separate in tins etc are promo versions of the cards and are identified with a code that represents the expansion and promo card number SM16 followed by a larger star that has PROMO written through it.

    They changed the code card for this particular tin.
    They used to provide a trade-able pack in game.
    Now it automatically provides the contents of the pack, and the deckbox from the code is no longer trade-able.
    That's really frustrating for F2P players of the online game, since they can no longer trade for the deckbox.
