The defenders being brought in need to be comfortable in possession going forward and have good recovery speed to cover space primarily down the flanks. Arteta must quickly establish a style of play with the squad and also trim the squad down to two players competing for each position then Arsenal could compete for the title in 2-3 years

Martinez is more commanding in the box, much better at corners & set pieces. Also he's slightly better at both short & long passes. Leno at times takes a lot of time to pick a pass & sometimes put our defenders under pressure. But leno has cat like reflexes. So i would play martinez in the league definitely.
Get Ozil off the wage bill and sign players we actually need.

I get why people feel like Leno is an excellent keeper, partly because he is a good keeper indeed, but partly its the hype around Leno because he was saving our ass after shitty defensive mistakes. Let's not forget that he also had a couple of bad games and mistakes here and there. Positioning and reflexes are great, but he is not very demanding in the 6-yard box and dealing with crosses. The other thing is his kicking and weak foot. Emy has stronger hands, moving quick inside the box, his diving is excellent and I just realized he's even younger than Leno. So for me, Martinez should start next year, and let's see if Leno can work his way into the first team again. If not, then we made the right decision. If yes, then we can still sell Martinez next year.

Özil is someone you consistently said that the wages are a factor when evaluating a player. People are finally coming around to that fact, particularly when trying to bring in new playing staff. The loan option would be beneficial for all sides and Arsenal just having to pay a slice of the salary. At least then maybe Arsenal can save some cash, say 100k a week, which could go to another player. Not ideal, but its better than paying the full 18m of his remaining contract for him sitting in the reserves or the bench.

When Arteta came in and gave every player a chance to redeem their future in the team, some players (like Mustafi, Nketiah, Chambers, Guendouzi, Maitland-Niles, Luiz, Willock, Özil and Nelson) put in some gears and try to impress.
Then Covid-19 shutdown came and on resumption; we saw some good showings from Pépé, Lacazette, Tierney, Holding, Ceballos and Martínez.
Last season in review; we won the FA cup and finished 8th and it was a relatively fair achievement considering the situation the club went through with 3 coaches and an average squad.
That is not the Arsenal FC I wanted.
Arsenal should be winning the league, The FA cup and competing very well with the big boys in the champions league!!!
Arteta must bring-in top quality and mature players with proven experience to build his team back to reckoning.
Honestly, the players I will strongly keep at the main team after an assessment of last season performance are
GK: Leno & Martínez
MD: Xhaka, Ceballos
DF: Tierney, Luiz, Mari, Soares, Mustafi
FW: Auba, Saka, Martinelli, Pépé and Nketiah
If we can bring in Thomas Parety, Willian Borges, Gabriel Magalhães, Philippe Coutinho and welcome William Saliba and Emile Smith Rowe….Arteta will have a better team.
Chambers, Holding, Nelson and Willock should go on loan and their progress must be monitored that they get quality game time.
Please kindly take a good look at the list of players I opted away from the team…. Macey, Bellerín, Papastathopoulos, Lacazette, Torreira, Özil, Maitland-Niles and Kolašinac….and sincerely tell who will make a starting lineup in the top 6 teams currently in the EPL table ??

I think Leno and Martinez are both strong and capable #1 GKs but only Leno would probably demand a decent transfer fee should we sell one of them, so for financial reasons, I'd sell Leno. (but preferably I'd keep both and let them battle it out)
I'm surprised only a minority of the fan base despise the signing of Willian, a shocking deal that hurts our books, hurts Saka and Martinelli play time (growth), we don't need a winger, let alone an aging winger: makes no sense. The only attacker we need is Aouar/Szoboszlai for CAM and Edouard to replace Lacazette. Then focus on Gabriel and Partey.

Greetings Turkish. Much respect boss. Ozil doesn't love this club or he would have assisted by moving on....he can fuck off!. He doesn't owe it to the club but he is fucking around and the club should just pay him off and take the loss. Business vibes suggest that you take a loss sometimes to keep it moving.

I've heard the argument for the 3 year contract to hold his value too and I thought exactly the same as you Turkish, what value?! He'll be 34 on 100k after 2 years! Where is the resale value there?
Özil wont play in a major market anymore. I dont think he would play for a small team in the major markets and the big teams probably would pay him 5 Mill a year at best. So his best move is to go to the US, Turkey, Dubai etc. The best thing Arsenal could do is sell him this summer for 15-25 Million, pay off the difference he will make at the new club which will probably be between 6-10 Million.
So even if its the worst case scenario for my example, and he gets 6 Mill a year and we sell him for 15 Mill, we still make 3 Mill in profit and get rid of the highest earner + troublemaker in a sense. That would be a big victory.
But having said that, we are about to fucks ourselves again with this Auba situation. Its the boards fault to have an important player in a one year left on the contract situation. But he will be Özil 2.0 if we give him a big contract and he stops performing like he did. If there are no offers for Auba, I see no reason to panic. Let his contract run down, he will be 32 next summer. Not sure if there is a need to give him a big contract.
And I like Leno and Martinez and they both deserve to be starters. I think we should sell this summer for whomever we get more money and use that money to strengthen other areas.

Im really not happy about the signing but remember we don't have a ball carrier. That's why Willock gets so many minutes. He will solve that issue. It's really to bring in experience with the kids.
I don't understand why the Martinez/Leno is difficult. It's really simple. One hasn't cost us a single point or gm, while the other has cost us pts vs Man U, Spurs and Chelsea in first legs of season. Easy choice to make Martinez the # 1 keeper. Any other decision is ridiculous.

I will admit and agree that he has improved much over the course of the season, but he was not good in the beginning. Martinez on the other hand has been good throughout. So if we make Martinez the #1 keeper, it will force Leno to improve even more and Martinez to be on top of his game. It's good for competition.
Im torn on the Martinez- Leno argument. Whilst i agree Martinez has been amazing we do also have to be careful what we wish for, when Cech was no1 we was all calling for Leno to be no1 because he was better with his feet, now were saying Martinez is better at crosses and with his feet, lets not forget leno is 2nd in player of the year, had continuously pulled off incredible saves and kept us in alot of matches when being faced with 20 shots a game, Martinez has come in when the defence has improved, has 5 defenders infront of him, no pressure from fans and a time when even mustafi has looked half decent. Hes been on many loans but no club has ever bid for him, he may have siezed his chance but lets see how he does over the course of a season and lets not forget how good leno has been. Either way it should be a win win situation for arsenal

Just put both Leno and Martinez in goal at the same time in a match, so we have two goalies that means 12 players because arsenal has to be given special previlages
If we could get ozil off the wage budget that means over 12 months we would of saved £16.8m if we would of got rid of him instead of giving him the 350k a week all though its not alot how many times have we fell short on bids by £10-£15m ? The Goalie situation is simple, Leno for the league, Martinez for the cups. There's plenty of games in all competitions to accommodate. They both just have accept is. There doesn't have to be a number 1, they're both world class
