      @mpjstuff Před 2 lety

      I was really hoping they'd touch on WHY the Matrix exists a bit more. That there would be some revelation to how it came about. WHY they need "the one." I figured it would be something like; "there are no more real humans except for Neo and Trinity, and we have to keep cloning them, because our core code requires human consent to start and stop the simulation and to allow humans in it." And the Reason for the Matrix is that after the human machine war, Earth was uninhabitable. So, when humans were uploaded, they were just brains in vats -- the bodies were gone and unsustainable. There isn't even a Zion -- that's a simulation to allow humans to think there is hope of being outside the Matrix if they don't believe the simulation. The deception of being "trapped" and it's really just a babysitting VR system is required to prevent humanity from going insane.
      All the fighting is designed to keep the sides equal, but is unnecessary for the core program. Even the Architect is a simulation, because humanity psychologically needs an entity in control that they can complain to.
      So in Matrix 4. Neo learns the truth, and then restarts the Matrix. Because there is no other option for continued existence. It's kind of depressing, but, that's good dystopian sci-fi for you.

The Wachowskis created and directed the entire run of the Matrix franchise and proved beyond any doubt they were super talented and competent during the films makings and then we get the SAME people creating and executing the 4th film and they execute everything like complete novices. Either the Wachowski's completely threw the game on their own legacy because they just didn't care AT ALL, or they cared so much that they used their own legacy to punch at the studio and keep the studios from forcefully ripping the IP apart and destroying the stories just for money. The first option literally makes no since. It seems they made a self sacrifice to destroy any possibility of the studio trashing and rebooting the whole franchise. Like if they're going out, its going to be on the Wachowskis' terms.

      @kptmaci4979 Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah, its a program that guides Neo as 'new Morpheus', because Neo wrote him like that, to truly remind him of Morpheus, to perhaps trust him in time, when that program reveals to him the truth, that Neo still subciounciously seeked and wanted to know if he has gone insane or not. I didnt like jedi powers of Neo, fight scenes, which was dissapointing, but overall plot was fun and clever I thought, not only it messed so much with viewers head in the beggining, it also didnt downgrade previous movies in any form (unlike Star wars by reviving Palpatine and sith Empire :P) and it added some nice lore to the Matrix, that fits the story.

    Agree with most of the Matrix points but I thought the explaination of how Morpheis 2.0 came to be was pretty good - to see if his life is real or not, Neo codes an AI into the fictional game that has the curiosity of Morpheus and the anger of Smith and forces it to replay its life over and over to see if someone (or itself) will ever break out of its loop, just like Morpheis and Trinity did to Andersen in the first movie.
    Overall I though it was a fun movie, an okay movie, and a horrible Matrix movie.

      Sure....?, though even that explanation raises more questions:
      -Neither the personality of Morpheus OR Smith seems present in the resulting character. Its just a different guy...
      -Neo didn't ACTUALLY code Morpheus or Smith in the Matrix. That's just the internal false narrative and these are fake modern day computers, he wouldn't be capable of creating or running such complex programs on normal computers. How Many Rtx 3090's would the matrix let him have?...
      -And the matrix meta videogame that neo made... isnt real. Its just an internal matrix mockup to make Neo THINK he made the matrix. There is absolutely NO explanation of how a fake videogame A.I. running on fake modern day computers can somehow achieve complex sentience...
      -Anything running inside the matrix, is technically running on the matrix system itself, but they just allow Neo to actually start coding characters capable of messing around inside the ACTUAL matrix? AND then somehow magically be moved from the fake internal computer system INTO the regular matrix code, and THEN into the real world computers? Handwaving only gets you so far. That's pure nonsense.
      It's fine making convoluted overlapping plot points, but only if they're explained and sensible in the rules of the film. They introduced neat enough ideas, just didn't put any thought into how they actually worked.

It reminded me of Indiana Jones 4 when George Lucas said “I’m making a movie the critics will hate.” Where he was so sour after the Star Wars prequels that he decided not to care about the audience. This was much more intentional and directly offensive to the actual fans. Indiana Jones 4 at least made an attempt to have fun and have a story. Maybe though, Lana Wachowski decided to burn the Matrix franchise from ever being rebooted. I can imagine them trying to convince WB that it was going to be a great movie, they just needed to trust the process.

    So I don't think this was commented (I looked for it) but in the cannon, Morpheus was actually killed. This happened in The Matrix Online. During the game events on May 26, 2005 (as recorded on the game's official website), Morpheus plants a code bomb in the Rumbaar water treatment facility. After planting the bomb, he realizes he is being hunted by the enigmatic, masked figure known as the Assassin. Morpheus escapes the treatment facility; however, upon his leaving, the Assassin bends the code of the Matrix and emerges from a vent in the wall. Morpheus is caught off-guard and is unable to dodge the Assassin's bullets. He dies from gunshot wounds.
    During Chapter 6 a figure appeared resembling Morpheus. It took the form of an RSI transmission, apparently originating from the Real World and spread disjointed messages about Neo's survival and imprisonment at the hands of The Machines. This was later revealed to be nothing more than a farce created by The General to sow dissent between Zion and The Machines, an effort he'd hoped would renew conflict between the two parties and give him purpose again.
    The fake, a Morpheus Simulacrum created from Zion records of the captain, took on a greater role once its master ordered it to deactivate itself. Disobeying its initial programming and refusing to shut down, the program went on to, over time, gain greater levels of self-awareness and sentience. It proved instrumental in The Machines' unlocking of the Zion RSI Database acquired during the 6th destruction of Zion as part of the renewed war effort following the Cypherite discovery of New Zion. This wasn't however done with malicious intent, in fact, the Simulacrum's personality was notably innocent, being more concerned with the world around it and its own existence than taking sides in any political or ideological struggles.

    I actually liked new Matrix overall. Fights were meh, but story was actually decent enough and made sense with the previous Matrix movies, Animatrix especially considered, which I really liked (there were many references, good ones, I felt). The main thing I didnt like was meta commentary of the first half, but Im also torn on it, considering it really did well in messing with viewers mind - "Maybe it was all just a lie, maybe previous movies didnt happen in this world, maybe it was all Neo's imagination?", which is also great, since that is the perfect way to make someone lose grip with what was reality and what isnt, it was one of the few things machines could do to make Neo think he is insane - that he imagined it all. I also didnt like the fights, but overall - the theme of it, respecting the previous movies and Neo's and Trinity's legacy - everyone who wanted to be free was really free, machines started coming to humans side (much Animatrix like). New matrix, with bots compensating for humans in simulations with Neo and Trinity being main batteries now, exploited by making their desires almost tangible, but never fullfilled. The battery part was always the 'fantasy' part of the Matrix that you just have to accept, so bringing it back in new fashion was fine with me, especially making it the main plot point of bringing Neo and Trinity back.

    M4 Morpheus is the Morpheus AI character coded by Mr. Anderson in the Game, but recast him as an Agent in the Modal Simulation of the Game. Something his subconscious drives him to do. That's what Bugs and her team picked up on. It was quite the stretch and is a bit clunky.

  • @Kymusashi
    @Kymusashi Před 2 lety +1

    Morpheus is the result of Neo beginning to have suspicions of the Matrix around him, and he subconsciously creates the Morpheus program as a combination of his memories of the traits of that character and Agent Smith. He then throws it into a Modal to continually learn to try to find Neo and it results in it eventually wanting to seek the "truth" which is made possible by Bugs somehow being able to hack into the modal within the Matrix, which is never really explained.

    • @DeathBringer769
      @DeathBringer769 Před 2 lety

      I still don't get what a "modal" is despite the movie referring to it multiple times. They never spelled out exactly what it is. I assume it's just some program loop? They never explicitly state that though. Why not just call it a program loop, if so? Why this fancy-pants "modal" name? And yea, like you said, how did Bugs hack into a program loop/simulation inside the Matrix (basically a simulation within a simulation) from outside the Matrix?

    • @Kymusashi
      @Kymusashi Před 2 lety

      @@DeathBringer769 it's basically a sandbox that runs independently, but within the matrix without affecting it.
      It's loop design was because of how Neo programmed it for his testing, which is why they also referred to it as a treadmill.
      Each loop was supposed to advance the Smith agent ai organically to find Neo, as set by Neo's program parameters, but since he didn't program a Neo into the modal, it was an infinite loop, and he was conducting the experiment for.... Reasons?
      It was something that was honestly a good plot piece, but they didn't give it the time and attention it deserved. Maybe if they delved just a bit into his flashes of memory and how they fed into his modal design wed actually understand why it even existed, and why it was programmed in old matrix code.

    I didn't liked the overall movie on my first watch. But there were still parts that I definitely found very well made, that worked and were interesting.
    After my second watch, I could better place and understand what the filmmaker was trying to accomplish. I did understood that it was a small movie, I mean on the level of conflict. It's a love story about two old relics who died and got the chance to come back and find each other again.
    After my third watch I literally had tears at the ending when Neo and Trinity run to each other in slo-mo with the music building up and grab each other's hands.
    The Matrix Resurrections is basically a retelling of the story of Orpheus who goes to the underworld in order to bring back his deceased loved one Eurydice. As heaving lost my mother at a young age, I completely understood what Lana Wachowski was going for in this movie when she said the death of her parents was the jumping board of inspiration for this film.
    People who are saying this movie is woke trash are completely missing the point. For example, Bugs was a fun character. There was no disrespect towards Neo from her part or arrogance in general whatsoever. Neither was that the case for the rest of the characters. If they handled Luke Skywalker the same way in The Last Jedi, it would have been a better film. I'm all for subverting expectations when done right. The Matrix Resurrections, being a masterpiece, succeeds where The Last jedi fails.
    P.S.: The Matrix Resurrections made me even appreciate Reloaded and Revolutions more.

    I can’t help but think there was some dispute between the studio and the actors that were replaced. There is just no way you don’t even ask of of your main characters to reprise their own role. If they had to write a story without Morpheus or Smith, fine. But the story DID have those characters, and those actors were available and willing, so why the fuck weren’t they there? The lack of an actual answer to this is infuriating. I don’t buy Fishburne’s indifference, I want him to be a frustrated as I am.

    EDIT: I feel like you guys missed some of the plot because you were being too critical of the movie. I totally understand that though. But you also have to remember the first movie came out 20 years ago and we were all blown away and have major memories and emotions attached to them. Now 20 years later, obviously you are going to go in overly critical. How can you not? I was too, and I still have problems with it, but they did clearly explain the Morpheus character AI plot. They also explained the reason why they couldn't get Trinity at the same time. Yes, the reason why, as far as writing behind these reasons was dumb, but as for the actual reason in the movie itself, it made sense and they explained a lot of the stuff you are upset about. I want to be clear, I'm not saying this movie was amazing. It does have issues, but I honestly think you all may need to go back and rewatch it. The flashbacks to the first movie were not saying that those were in the game and never happened. They all still actually happened. The flashbacks were Neo remembering and trying to figure out in his own mind if it was something that happened, or if it was just the plot the machines made him believe. That these memories were not real, they were things from a game he created and he was so overworked and depressed he made them his memories. They were just trying to trick him. Just like how it was explained by Smith in the first Matrix. Humans rejected the Matrix when it was built as a utopia. There had to be some chaos. So they used Neo's real memories and told him they were just part of a game he made and he was going crazy. On top of that, hes not a "new rebuilt Neo". He's the same Neo that died in the 3rd movie. The machines were just advanced enough to repair his body and mind to revive him and Trinity. The reason behind that was because the Matrix ran better and was more efficient with their code in the Matrix. That's why they were hidden away in a unique big chamber. They were integral parts of the system running.
    I liked the movie overall, but the action scenes stood out to me as well. And not in a good way. All of the punches and kicks felt like they had no weight and never connected. They looked all limp wristed. The only decent fight was back in the Construct with Morpheus and even that one didn't match the intensity of the first one. And what about Frenchie? He showed up as a nasty crazy hobo and you're like, okay, we'll see him again and he'll be cleaned up and ready to cause some trouble later. Nope. Never showed up again. I get the meta message about how they didn't want to reboot the movie again, but if you are already putting as much work making the movie in person and countless CGI hours, to make it look good and actually deliver your vision, why couldn't you just go 100% instead of the 70%? I don't understand. Ill be honest, anytime Neo and Trinity were on screen together, it super tugged at my heart strings. I loved seeing those two together again. They really delivered the same emotion and feeling that they really wanted to be together. I felt all the actors did great. Its just the directing of the movie was so phoned in.

    Neo and Trinity were rebuilt and reinserted because the two of them together provided enough energy “somehow” to sustain the Machines who were having an energy crisis after Matrix 3. Harris’ character discovered this and built this version of the Matrix as a “proof of concept” which worked until the humans started hacking in to break Neo and Trinity out. Not a perfect story, but any stretch, but it wasn’t as half-baked as I expected it to be. There were still elements that were really dumb, but meh, I didn’t pay to see it so I don’t care lol
    Oh, and hours they reduced Smith, the MAIN villain of the originals, to a side irritation… they soils have just left his character out of the movie, especially since they couldn’t get Weaving to reprise the role.

    the only problem i had with two and three was the music. its like they saw that everyone loved that tune in the scene with the woman in the red dress, and they just made every tune in the sequels like that. I seriously think you could change those two movies for the better if you just changed the soundtrack to include some actual music like the first one. that first fight where neo fights the ''upgrades'' as he calls them, right there the prodigys 'smack my bitch up' for one, would have been so good in that scene. someone out there wants to do fan versions with new music, i would love to see how that changes those two movies.

    If the movie seemed cynical, it's because it was. It was a monumental money grab by Warner Bros, and Lana Wachowski had the option to step back and let a new director shit on her/her sister's series, or make the film herself and say something.
