    See Taco Moto Co video on ECU specs - • THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO ...
    In this video, we install and ride test the GET ECU with a combination of exhaust muffler options. We start with the base ECU on a stock bike. We then upgrade to the Pro-Moto Billet endcap on the stock pipe. Finally, we go full dragon and install an FMF 4.1 race exhaust muffler.
    Along the way, we give you our trail impressions from real world riding as well as show you some of the potential issues to watch out for. We spend a few minutes explaining the physics of exhaust mufflers on 4 stroke dirt bikes and tell you why pipes make a difference.
    We bust several myths about how pipes impact the performance of your dirt bike and we show you how to unlock the beast hiding inside your KTM four stroke bike so it gives you the power and throttle response you expected when you first bought the bike.
    We conclude with our recommendations for which exhaust option you should go with based on the type of riding you do and what you can expect from the different combinations.
    We challenge several commonly held assumptions about how exhaust systems work on dirt bikes, and we welcome you to disagree with us and tell us why in the comments.

    I run a GET ECU with FMF 4.1 on my 2020 500 EXC-F and it is a RIPPER! Rode stock for about a year before the parts became available and it is now a completely different bike, much like you found. $1500 is a lot to pay for the upgrades, but it changes the bike to what I wanted when I bought it. I'm in SoCal and run the same trails you do. BTW, just sayin, if you're in SoCal we all should support our boys at FMF vs some other brand. Also love your shout-outs to Mike and TacoMoto - they are the best!
    Greatly appreciate your classroom discussion, and without going into hours of discussion, you nailed it. Laughing though, I'm not sure who could talk longer, you or Taco Mike. ;)
    It looks like you are running OEM headlights. Highly suggest you upgrade to at least a Cyclops LED headlight bulb kit ($100) or better yet, go all they way to bright with Baja Designs.
    BTW, if you are getting "thrown over the handlebars" you are relying too much on throttle to manage your [low] speed and you should be using more clutch with higher RPMs. Same with looping the bike.
    Love and appreciate your videos. Hope to see you on the trails some day.

    Hi, thanks for this in depth review and explanations on how it works, and I agree with you as far as I was taught about this matter. May I just add that pipe diameter and length from head to muffler are calculated aiming at best flow for a certain rpm, meaning it's a compromise so that before and after the aimed rpm , the flow is less optimum. We may see that KTM lengthened the pipe from 2019 aiming at lowered rpm optimum which we like when riding enduro. On the contrary, adding an intermediate chamber aim at higher revs optimum which MX guys like a lot. About the sound dampening, it is directly impacted by the volume of muffler: more volume , less decidels, but there too is a optimum volume for best volume to dB Reduction ratio. And on top of this, fuel mapping , when changing fuel to air ratio and ignition advance, directly impacts engine performance/resistance to stalling vs speed of highering revs ( as I experienced it with Yamaha tuner on YZ and WRF). The only minor correction I'd like to make on your wording is: firing is not explosion but only combustion. Explosion with too lean mixture drives to holes in piston . Combustion of compressed mixture gives a volume increase in the chamber that pushes the piston down. Remember 4 strokes ( 4 cycles) are: 1st stroke down to get mixture in chamber, 2nd stroke up to compress mixture, combustion to have the 3rd stroke down, and 4th stroke generated by flywheel turning inertia to push burnt gases through exhaust.

Just got into dual sports this year, bought a couple CRF 300’s to ride with my son and we’re having a blast. My Tiger 900 just sits in the garage as I’ve found DS beats ADV for me. Hey great job on the video. I also have a 2021 500xcf-w. I bought mine new almost a year ago in May of last year. I’ve been waiting for an ECU all this time myself. I finally came across the guys at OEM dirtbike parts great guys. They are taking a stock ECU and having it re-flashed to whatever you want it to be in for a very good price. Mine should be here this week yay! lol I had them map mine to make it is hard hitting as it possibly can be running premium pump gas without doing titanium valves and all that. Anyways getting to the point of why I wrote this comment as I’m curious? I’m doing the FMF 4.1 like the one you have but with the blue anodized canister. I also did the smog removal. I also am removing the reeds doing the high flow twin air filter with the aluminum cage. Doing the venting airbox cover. Again I’m getting off track. lol that’s why I am writing you make no mention of pulling the reeds out or doing the high flow twin air air filter with the aluminum cage which also removes the backfire screen so it can pull more air. I’m just curious if you did those mods and just failed to mention them in the video? I can’t wait to get this all together and just see what a brutal hard hitting machine it’s going to be?? lol also I failed to mention that doing what I’m doing I don’t believe I will have the use of the map switch on the handle bar. I honestly don’t care the throttle is the map switch in my opinion it’s all about throttle control. lol Again great job on the video I enjoyed it very much! Please forgive any typos or anything I may have missed? lol

    • @ExtremeSportsWannaBes
      @ExtremeSportsWannaBes  Před 2 lety

      I've since removed the map switch myself. I agree fully, the throttle is the map switch!
      Regarding the air box, I did not make any modifications. I plan to test that at some point, but I've been so happy with it as is it hasn't been a priority. I would suggest running some kind of backfire screen though, my bike sometimes fires back pretty good. The ECU appears to fuel quite a bit and if you have very low throttle angle and then close the throttle, you'll have a bunch of unburnt gas in there to give a good pop!

    • @doughowe5792
      @doughowe5792 Před 2 lety +1

      Yes that air filter is designed to handle backfires and things like that so it should be OK. Removing the reeds in the air boot is much more important than running the high flow air filter. I’m surprised that Mike at taco moto didn’t make that suggestion to you from the beginning? He and Jeff Slavens have videos on how to remove them. If you do remove them and try it I would love to know what the difference is what you felt different? Because I already have pulled mine so I won’t know if there’s going to be a difference when I get it all put back together. Thanks for replying to me.

    I noticed you are running what looks like the Trail Tech Voyager Pro unit. After installing the Trail Tech, is that how you were able to see that your idle speed was running low? I presume that after the idle speed was corrected it was then that the GET ECU was implemented? Is it correct to say that the Tacomoto map 2 is what causes the hard starting due to flooding? Aside from that initial 75 mile map 2 ride, do you actually run map 2 or is that reserved for something like low octane fuel, or just bad gas in general?

    • @ExtremeSportsWannaBes
      @ExtremeSportsWannaBes  Před 2 lety

      Yes, that's a trail Tech. But, I don't use the tach, I could tell idle was low by engine sound characteristics of pull off low throttle.
      I did fix the idle issues completely before starting into the GET testing.
      As far as map 2, I didn't have much luck with it. I run map 1 100% of the time. I might run map 2 for low octane use if needed.

      I'm running the FMF 4.1 pipe and map 1 of the GET ECU I got from taco moto. And yes, it's a monster of a performance bike.

      I believe he still had the reeds in the air box when you asked the question. I don’t know why he hasn’t added the larger straight snorkel to feed the throttle body: big air in--ECU fueling better all through the rpm range-- big air out through the opened up exhaust.

    Your wrong about the dynamics of a four stroke exhaust. A racing exhaust will reflect back a positive pressure pulse thus supercharging the charge. Just like a two stroke pipe. If you look at flat track bikes you will see a lot of reverse mega flow exhausts.

      Not sure I follow what you mean by "super charge the charge"? I'm no expert, but two strokes pull exhaust back in to reburn unused fuel. EGR does something similar in some cars, but isn't involved in my KTM or any bike I've worked on.

      @@ExtremeSportsWannaBes I got the Baja Designs for mine. I may never even ride in the dark but The stock KTM lighting is atrocious. This was a great video.. I'm gonna get the GET and the end cap combo. I know that will be plenty for me. Your testing here helped me finally make up my mind. Thanks... how is the Schuberth mount coming? 😁

      Awesome! Glad it was helpful! I tried to order the Schuberth but the only place I could find it was in Europe. It was going to take over a month to ship and then with all of the shipping issues we’ve been having I decided to try and find it here in the states. Haven’t had any luck finding a seller here but I’ll keep looking.

      @@ExtremeSportsWannaBes I got mine through Revzilla. Not sure if they still have stock. It's a pricey helmet to get just to fit a camera mount...But then you'll own an awesome helmet.

    $14000 for a bike that needs another $3000 just to get it to do what it should be doing in the first place 🤔🤔.
    Just don’t buy a KTM is what videos like this are about, but KTM say READY TO RACE 😂😂😂😂😂.

      Its the California State bike!
      Anyway, I got a well sorted and suspended 2014 for $5k, add $1k for the Get and endcap. Now its basically perfect. Monster power, easy to work on, easy to ride.
      I'm not sure what else anyone who is not actually a pro rider would need.
