- Acrylic Pouring on Rocks Using Leftover Paint SuperFun Amazing Results!! Gorgeous Garden Stones!
Hello Friends!
I just finished my Aphrodite Series, and I have some paint left from each of the 6 pours, and I want to use it on something special to remember this series.
We recently moved to this house, and one of the things that I immediately fell in love with was a small water feature with a little waterfall, surrounded by rocks and plants. I have slowly been changing the plants (lots of bushy grasses) for some of my favorite succulents, adding a lot of color year round. I've been thinking about pouring on some rocks and placing them around the water, for a little pop of sparkle and interest.. so that's what we are going to do today.
The colors I'm using are all left from the various Aphrodite pours, except for the Teal.
My Colors are:
Golden's
- Permanent Deep Violet
- Iridescent Copper
- Prussian Blue
- Quinacridone Crimson
- Teal
Chroma Molten Metals
- Purgare Silver
DecoArt Americana
Decor Satin Enamels
- Warm White with some
AL Flow Acrylic Whitl
Artist's Loft
- Flow Acrylic Gold
- Flow Acrylic Black
Pouring Medium
Liquitex Gloss
Medium & Varnish
Paint + a bit of Water
Floetrol
Let's get to pouring these rocks! The rocks I used were pretty clean and dry, but I did wipe them down with a paper towel. Its good to start with a clean surface before you start pouring. I also have an 11x14 canvas ready, I'm going to put one of the smaller rocks on it and use the drips to create a painting too.
For the first big rock, I wanted to use all the colors I had.. I layered my cup carefully down the side, and then poured it over the rock. This was so much fun! The shape of the rock created some beautiful effects as the paint poured down, and seeing all those colors together sparkling in the sunlight was so beautiful!
For the second rock, I wanted more of a controlled color palette, so I chose my favorite, blues and purples. I layered them carefully down the side of the cup and poured. I love this one!! The blues and purples work so well together, complimenting and contrasting at the same time.
For the third rock I wanted to use my canvas. After I placed the rock on the canvas, I poured some copper on the rock first as a background color, and then layered a cup carefully with Copper, Teal, Prussian Blue, Gold and some Violet. With this one I wanted to pour less so that the copper background would still show thru. It came out so cool!! The copper dried so bright and metallic and shimmery.. it's awesome!
There was some paint on the canvas, but not enough, so I added more paint to my cup, not carefully (dirty cup, poured into the center), and flipped the cup upside down in the center of the canvas. After a minute, I flipped the cup. I torched the pour, then tilted to cover the canvas. I really like how it came out, there are some softer parts, but there is some really cool copper lacing with Prussian Blue cells popping thru, I really like it!
My table was getting a bit messy at that point so I scraped the Table Mixins into a cup and used that as a background color on the rock. Then I looked at the paint I had left and saw a lot of black and switched gears lol.. I then poured black on the rock and covered it. Then I layered a cup with Crimson, Copper, Gold and Black and poured it on the rock. The Black provided so much amazing contrast against the Crimson and Copper, it came out so deep and dramatic! I love this one!
I really had a lot of fun with these rocks, and I definitely want to do more. Perhaps on special occasions? My Mom is coming over tomorrow for her birthday, maybe she will pour a rock to place in the waterfall.
Thank you all for watching! I hope you enjoyed this video, and got an idea of something fun to do with leftover paint.
Have you painted rocks before? There are several groups online that apparently paint rocks and then place them for people to find.. that sounds like such a fun idea! How awesome to brighten up someone's day unexpectedly by finding a small treasure!

Had so much fun watching this video! Love the painting as well
I love that I am not the only nut that loves painting rocks. We have made each grandchild a rock (riverrock) for there 2md birthdays. And We have a pool lined with tons of bigger river rock that I have been painting one here and one there. It will probably take me years to get them all done - but they look amazing and since we are in the high desert area I love the added color they bring to our open dirt land.
That sounds so beautiful Laura! ❤️ I was thinking I might add one on special occasions 😁 thanks so much for watching and commenting!!

Press and Seal is a fluid artists friend. Thank you for sharing.
This was a fun video! I love your succulent garden, it’s gorgeous. 👍💕❤️
Thats absolutely brilliant
What a cool idea ...would look even cooler if you had a light set up that shined on them at night or put solar lights by the painted rocks . So many ideas !! Lol. Ive been trying to come up with ways to add to my landscape around my pool/deck with some extra pretty bright colors rather than flowers that would attract bees and this would work perfect and look cool with the pool lights & string lights I have going around my pool for night swimming & pool parties . You've got my wheels turning big time. Lol. Thanks for the inspiration & sharing this cool idea !!! I love it . 😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜

The easy pour mixing of paints, the lines on the cups inspired. I can't wait to use your info & see what kind of rocks (I have an obsession with rocks! It's major......but not a collection like you do w/fountain! Did I say I love Water Falls?) & ring pours I can come up with!
Thank you very much!
Love that fountain! Can't wait to see how you decorate your Painted Rock Concert Fountain! ✨️
I am not into arts, but I love watching the happy you. You make me smile just watching you. Be Blessed.
You tickle me. I just love to watch you. You always make me smile. Who would have thought to paint rocks. The canvas is soft and soothing.
Love the rocks. I want to do that.
Beautiful
This was such a fun video! You never cease to amaze me with your creativity.
Loved your rock concert session. I paint rocks also. I do dot art and now I want to do a dirty pour on my rocks in my yard. Thank you for sharing your fun ideas! You are so fun!
Love all of this Mina! 💙 Especially love your water feature! ❤️ So happy you did this. This is exactly how I got started in fluid acrylics. When I started looking at my white car 🤔, I decided it was time to buy canvas instead. LOL 😆 Thank you dear woman! 🥰
I have a white car... Hmmmm 🤭
Thank you so much for your lovely comment Ellen, I really appreciate you watching 🥰
Love-ly. I truly enjoyed this one. I just finished pouring a rock or 2 for placement at our Municipal building. The community is putting together a COVID-19 Survival Rock Garden. It's a lot of fun.
Such fun, a joy to watch and fabulous end results all round. Love it!! 🥰😍🥰
Best rock concert ever !!!!!! Love it !!!❤️😇💕💕💕
Nice! I thought I needed flat or round smooth rocks, thanks!
Goodbye ugly flagstone! Thanks again, you’re awesome!
You are a fun person!!! We should clone you and sprinkle you all over the globe. (Sounds painful...) I love them all (putting base coat on them was brilliant), but the first one not quite as much. Then you put them in the garden and your first one totally rocked. Who would have thought. Awesome use of leftover paint!
So now I'm headed outside to find rocks! Thank you, Mina. Love your energy n humor.
Very cool 😍
Wonderful Mena
What a great idea! So beautiful and if you have access to plain Jane rocks like I do, what a terrific way to bring it up! Amazing! Love this video. Thank you so much! Totally loved it! FUN!
Pardon my French, but those rocks look so fucking cool! I LOVE THAT COPPER!!!! And that little canvas is wonderful! My favorite rock was the black, crimson, and copper....love it!!!!!
What an awesome idea to paint those rocks! They all turned out so good! Can't wait to see all the rocks painted in your garden! Love to watch you and see what you come up with next!
I love the drip canvas. By putting the rocks randomly around your foundation it really adds a ton of intrest. I am sure they will attract many flying insects to your garden.
So fun! Your rock garden/ rock falls is so gorgeous and relaxing!!
best rock show I have seen in a long time. I love rocks and bring them from everywhere, now I will be pouring on all the plane ones, thank you. Loved your place,.
More, more 👏👏
Mina, YOU ROCK!! ;)
Your water garden is so gorgeous and the rocks look super great there! I rock, too. So fun! Please do more!
Painted rocks totally ROCK!!!! It's what naturally happens when you love rocks AND have a color-obsessed brain! (I've been told I'm just a "rock-nut" because I've been painting rocks for decades.) Great idea to hand-paint on that base coat first. And there ya go, Mina....YOU just invented another profession.... #Rockin-Rock-Masseuse (aka, a legitimate massager of ancient stones)!! You just need a certificate to display in your "Rockin' Massage Room" filled with only the coolest rock music to relax ancient stones AND rock us merely-old, hard-core Rockers!!)
Seriously, Mina, I love the way these beautiful rocks look in your water feature and nestled in with your succulents! Hmmmm....do you think you may have lots more "leftover" paints and rocks in your future? It wouldn't surprise me. Big hugs ~Cheryl
Thank you so much Cheryl! When we were watching the one with the copper basecoat I told HoA it reminded me of Paula Dean massaging her Turkey with butter 😂
I love rocks, going to a rock yard is so much fun! Last year I bought 3 huge blue green rocks for a landscaping job, about 600 pounds each. The shop wanted to charge me almost as much to deliver them as the rocks cost so I said just put them in my truck 😂 I called HoA on the way home lol of course he got them out with no trouble lol I love rocks 😂 I have some pink agate that I used that I'm totally in love with ROFL 😂 pretty sure I will be doing more 😁 thanks for watching ❤️❤️❤️
OMG, YES!! Paula Dean massaging a turkey with butter (she's THE Butter Queen)!!!!! And ROFL @ 1,800 pounds of rocks in your truck.....poor suspension!!! You have #AmazoHoA!!! And you are TOO FUNNY, Mina!!!! Hey, how could you possibly pass up beautiful blue-green rocks?!?! That green MIGHT be oxidized copper....your obsession!!! Ooooh pink agate is SO luscious! I'm totally in agreement with you on rocks! (I love the small painted rock in your studio window.) We go to all the Rock & Mineral shows, and we're regulars at the Nevada Mineral and Book Company in Orange. Luckily, my HoA loves rocks, too, so he never complains about how many rocks I/we have. It make gift giving easy at our house! We hooked both our granddaughters on rocks, too. Gotta start 'em young! Rock-on, Mina!! Hugs ~Cheryl
Defiantly doing this! Love it!!!
👋. You guys rock. 😘
So do you! Thank you for watching Karen! ❤️
Wow!!! After they dried they are even more beautiful. You have a beautiful fountain/waterfall and your rocks are going to beautiful in there!!!
Watching you paint is so relaxing for me and I love how much you enjoy doing it!
