As a guatemalteca, HELL NOOOOOO, that is not authentic. Frijoles, our frijoles are black beans, the rice, our rice is typically white with veggies or tomatoes slices, and that pepian is just a NO. Not even the doblada

@@WhyAmISoDumb69420The title of the video was asking if it was authentic food so the OP was simply answering the question. They also have a right to be irritated if a restaurant is misrepresenting their country's food.

Doblada means folded so I guess it's because the tortilla is folded in half.

I’ll never forget when I first met my husband & I was at his apartment for a gathering, they made tacos & he wanted to impress me & feed me one. I asked is the salsa spicy ? He tasted it said no & dumped a ton on, fed me a bite so sweetly . I absolutely died choking on the spice 😅

I wonder if that was house made or Picamas hot sauce! I love Picamas, the verde is one of my favorites to eat with any fried food especially (but also tamales and nachos!), but be warned, if you're not a spicy person it can be pretty fiery 😊😋 (Picamas is Guatemalan, in case I wasn't clear 😂)

As a Guatemalan, I can confirm that what you had there was not Guatemalan. First off, Atole de Elote should be a yellow consistency with bits of corn in there. Like you said a chowder-like consistency and not to cinnamony. Second that plate of food that you had, didn't look recognizable to me. We eat black refried beans not brown or just straight black beans. Our rice is typically white rice mixed with various veggies like bell peper, carrots, green beans etc. Third, the majority of our main dishes tend to look more of a "curry" where the sauce is pretty thick. If you are interested in trying authentic Guatemalan food, California is one of the places where they sell authentic Guatemalan food--specifically downtown LA or you can try making them yourself as well. If you do end up making Guatemalan food, you should try Jocon since it has the less amount of ingredients/steps to make the dish. Now if you want to try some food, I recommend trying Hilachas, Pepian, or Jocon (these are foods that don't have any heat, but you can add some with Picamas (our brand of tapatio etc.)).

As a Guatemalan, who goes there.. and was raised eating real Guatemalan food.. you have Mexican food over there.
The atole is way too thick. It’s usually smooth with some corn here and there. Def not oatmeal consistency. The beans are absolutely wrong. You can try “ducal” beans… and that is as Guatemalan as you can get with the beans. Your rice is Mexican rice, Guatemalan rice looks nothing like this. It’s white with veggies. Guatemalan food is so good and is very different than Mexican food. yours is way off especially that blue tortilla lol. I appreciate the effort though in trying food. Try belizean food. Sooo good too!

You want authentic? Come to my house 🏠 I’ll give plátanos and black beans as a starter 😋

lol one thing I learned about any Latin foods is their level of spicy is compared to nothing else. When you ask if it’s spicy and they say not really, that’s your cue to dip one prong of the fork in and taste before making your next move😂oh yeah, and the red stuff is almost always way hotter than the green!! The only other food that scares me is Asian food. That Thai chili pepper will make you gasp for air😮‍💨

@hitmanbangspiedpipersledme999 LOL sometimes the salsa verde sneaks up on you too! Yea, but I do think there's some identity issues going on because her 23 and me video caused a s... storm in the comments she has a decent amount of african blood in her and she said her sister looks even more mixed. I'm assuming there's some old southern family secrets that play into all of that. Anyway I'm just here to watch her eat sammiches!
