    Ford's new Bronco line is the most hyped SUV range in ages, and it's divided between the full size, body-on-frame Bronco, and the Escape-based, Bronco Sport. The Bronco Sport may be an adapted crossover platform, but it's called Bronco, so we took it up the hardest Double-Black diamond trail at our off-road park. How does the Bronco Sport compare to off-road kings like the Land Rover Defender, Mercedes G550? Surprisingly well!
    Ford provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.

      When solid state smaller and safer battery will be available in 2025/2028 with 500 miles range and charge in 10 minutes, a bronco sports phev would be crazy good. They would simply need to put a small battery to make it safely enclosed from water and rocks. What people don’t think today a lithium ion battery car on the floor cannot go in high water and is dangerous with rock and heat. Solid state should be much more safer smaller, more range and charge in 10 min. Put that in a bronco sport badlands with both gas and electric range and convenience.

    • @raiden000
      @raiden000 Před 3 lety

      @@CC-gt3ro Even if battery tech comes out that can charge that fast, unless we start building the grid up now you wont be able to actually use it. your talking somewhere around 1 megawatt to charge that car that fast. The average nuclear reactor could only charge 1000 of them at once. We have a lot more work to do than research battery tech.

    • @CC-gt3ro
      @CC-gt3ro Před 3 lety

      @@raiden000 this is why i still will buy a gas engine car. The infrastructure will take times to be installed. But a plug in hybrid gas+ electric with solid state should be pretty good around 2035. If its has 2.0L gas engine 200hp + a 25/30kw solid state battery that can charge super fast in 10min with longer miles mileage, (like 150km) that kind of car would be unbeatable. It would not require more energy than the current rav4 prime xse. But the battery would be much more powerful, safer and faster to charge at home or on the road, with still the gas engine allowing any kind of distance easily.

    • @CC-gt3ro

      I bought the badland and i have a jackery 1000wh and a fridge Donetic cfx3 45. My powerstation runs my fridge for 4.5 days without charging. But if i charge with my 200 watts panel i get 100% battery every night. If the sun is clouded i still can use my 400watts inverter in the bronco sport to charge at 145w my jackery ( limitation of the jackery itself.) i can also use the 12v to charge but it is less than with the 120v if my jackery would allow more charging, i could use the 400w fully to charge even faster. But i practically never need it as the solar charge to 100% in few hours during the day. I fit the fridge and powerstation in the trunk perfectly. Don’t need a PHEV. It is more reliable with gas in winter. Less weight. Safe in summer. Look at what happen in florida with the flood. The car flooded must be isolated because the salt corrode the battery and they ignite fire. I am glad i picked the bronco sport badland gas. Electric tech is not ready yet. I have myself to be very careful with my powerstation to not let under the sun or in hot enclosed car. I put a reflective paper on top of it which cool it very well and i keep window open to keep the temperature low. The bronco sport help a lot with its dark window and the trunk top window. Sometime i keep the trunk also fully open to have access to the fridge and charge telephone,cameras, fan, dust vaccum, all lithium ion. But i always make sure to have my reflective materials well set to prevent heat.

    I'm heavily considering one of these as my next car once my current lease is up this summer. I love that they took a typical run of the mill CUV and made it into something much interesting and actually capable to boot. And the difference in price between this and an Escape is little to none (of course the Escape will have better incentives). I just wish they offered a powertrain more powerful than the 3 cylinder but without having go all the way up to the top trim Badlands. The hybrid from the Escape would be really nice.

I immediately swapped out the Pirellis for 245 65 17 K02s and the look is where it should be and I feel like I can go over anything. So far I love it. I really liked this more than I thought but for me it needs another 2" of roof line and windshield height for sight lines. My head was right up at the headliner and the whole safety suite mirror thing was a giant blind spot. The compact size is very handy if you are on trails in the woods with trees lining them. I keep trying to find something that would be like my old 1988 Dodge Raider 2DR, but there are so few compact true 4x4s and the ones out have low roof lines.

It makes off roading boring😂 point it and it will go, seriously. We’ve had ours 3 months and have ripped off two skid plates(just the bolts and the plate hung down), inner right fender, broke the front bumper and broke the windshield. I’m taking the stock tires off (235/65/17’s) and putting on 245/70/17’s to gain about 1.5”. We love ours!! We’ve towed out a ranger and a wrangler, both laughed until I drove around them and hooked up!

It seems extremely similar to the RT4wd system Honda created for the 1st Gen CRV, with the exception that it's manually selectable as opposed to the hydraulic dual pump system Honda created. Next off road video I'd suggest not locking the rear diff from the get go. Also stop on the steep stuff to see how the car handles it without momentum (and preferably record from the outside). This trail (at least on camera) seems manageable by any awd crossover with decent clearance and reasonable TC.

  • @anonymousanonymous9991

    It reminds me of a late 90s ford explorer, but really its a ford escape. My 5.0 explorer would keep pace with this sport track and follow a similar line. It has a modified suspension w/o any lift and bigger tires, brakes and a tune. This thing ain't bad. Would it be possible to try out a bronco badlands or a wildtrak?

Average upslope is 18%, and some sections are steeper than 3H:1V. ✌️ I think the official TST off-roading testing grounds is a relatable place for the road-focused driver...you MIGHT want to get up something that tough one day to go camping somewhere cool or visit a weird cabin. If you need much more than this, you're doing the Rubicon, Baja, or the Dakar on the regular!
