I think a lot of fans were hoping for Crack the Skye 2.0 on this album. Mastodon decided to Shatter the Universe instead. They really went above and beyond with this album. Speechless. Thank you Mastodon.

Different albums... Imo crack the Skye set the bar too high to ever be surpassed musically, however, this album hits me right in the feelings, my dad was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in September, i traveled to be with him in October 29th that day this album was released, exactly 2 months later the 29th of December he passed away.. this album truly helped me to stay strong during those times, making it for me probably my dearest mastodon album so far...
It reminds me of Ghost of Karelia a bit.
This is why I don't get why anyone would disable comments on music. I mean they are often filled with people either talking about how great certain songs are,what is great about it, theories, and total hilarious memes

My best friend passed away about 3 years ago now. To me this album feels like the journey from when he passed all the way to now and beyond

This sounds like a Gone Is Gone song and I'm not even remotely upset. I'm glad they brought some of that sound into Mastodon, I love Troy's work in that band!
I think this is my new favorite on the album. Troy's voice is fucking majestic and the driving beat is absolutely hypnotic. Also, it has a bit of a Kashmir vibe. This song just rules.
Best song on the album. Literal goosebumps. Percussion work and the synthesizer, vocals and guitars are working together perfectly

I’ve been listening to this album non stop these past couple of weeks and I can now say with confidence that this song is not only the best cut on this fantastic album, but a true career highlight for Mastodon.
It’s a magnificent piece of songwriting: dark, majestic and beautiful.
Sanders haunting vocals, coupled with the oriental flourishes and ominous keys, make this one of Mastodon’s most unique tracks to date.
It's my least favorite on the album. Still a good song, though.

Jesus this is so epic sounding, its like background music for an army charging into battle. This is such a different direction but I really like it, Hushed and Grim has been full of surprises.
