Having dabbled many years in various martial arts, I now just do ehat I like best. I only practice the official syllabus of Kodokan Judo grappling techniques (holds, chokes, and joint locks). My group of friends just roll around and practice these techniques. No throws, so sort of a "half' Judo. It is fun and easy on my 50 plus body.

My overall martial arts experience is 2 McDojo’s as a kid, 2 and a half years of wrestling in high school, the most minimal of boxing on and off in high school and college, a college Karate class, a few years of CZcams at home martial arts all throughout that leading up to now which is me with a year and a few months at an mma gym which offers striking, dedicated boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, ‘effective’ taekwondo, no gi jujitsu with wrestling and judo mixed in…it’s a cheat answer since it’s not ‘a martial art’ but MMA is the one I enjoy the most. The dedicated mma class where you mix the striking and grappling principles together with you being encouraged to develop your own style and what works for you based on the classes given, what you’ve learned before or new skills you bring to the table with the fat trimmed and guided for ‘what works’ (air quotes). And mma sparring is my favorite sparring/rolling as you get everything submission grappling has to offer without worrying about their niche points or rule sets with the striking intertwined
    Cheat answer I know lmao
That being said if I had to choose a single art, then Enshin Karate…a Kyokushin offshoot with more footwork and grappling being incorporated would be my go to

There is karate combat youtube channel were are full contact karate matches like MMA but only 5 sec in ground. Every MA is limited so its good you have a lot of variety. Ive also trained Judo, krav maga and now Shotokan but I dont train to be a good fighter. I know Im hard puncher and kicker already and hope I never have to use that staff in "real" life. We also in Shotokan classes have some grabling and tapping when we take a lock etc.

Nice same here always ask myself what to train. Not interested in sport just to get home safe and or protecting others. I started Bjj and karate 1.5 years ago. I thought i would quit BJJ too coz of injuries but didn't. I did quit karate though about a month ago mainly to like you said lack of gains. I might try a free style karate and if i don't like it, I'll stick with boxing and Muay Thai well probably at home which I'm doing ATM. 😂
