  • How do avoid getting cauliflower ear when grappling? How common is cauliflower ear in BJJ, judo, CACC? Is it inevitable? How effective is headgear at preventing hideously deformed ears?

I got two very minor cases of cauliflower within my first 6 months of BJJ. I figured I was one those people who's predisposed to it, and bought a pair of cliff keen signature headgear soon after. Once you get the fit right, you barely notice it at all, and I find I'm able to fight for head position and post/pummel with my head more confidently now too.
Headgear in jiu jitsu should be normalized IMO. Most other sports have some sort of head equipment, why not grappling? Cauliflower ear is a legitimate injury, but people wanna be tough guys and avoid looking "nerdy" so they shun the headgear. So silly 😂

Cauliflower ear will reabsorb every time if you rest long enough between practices... if you train daily it's unavoidable even with headgear. The secret to not letting your ears get busted up is to wear a bandana after practice to "pin them down" to the back of your head so they won't flare out. When they're swollen they're actually pretty malleable but once they solidify they'll be like that the rest of your life

I once said that having a separate hardware running Tails Operational System and Tor is better for being anonymous when exchanging cryptocurrency through P2P, than using a Virtual Machine, then this influencer got mad at me because he's selling a course of how using a virtual machine IS THE BETTER choice for being anonymous and safe, when actually there's a flaw called Meltdown and Spectre:
"Meltdown and Spectre are hardware vulnerabilities created by accident during the design of CPUs, and they affect nearly every computer processor in use today. Though discovered together, Meltdown and Spectre are actually two separate hardware security vulnerabilities that function a little differently."
What this can do is lead attackers to find sensitive info in your computer, for example, and steal it, but this influencer is leading people to believe that his method is safer than using a hardware specifically for what I've described before. It's not that the method I've described is bullet proof, but it's better than believe that running linux inside windows is going to be safer for anyone, than running linux in a separate computer. So he's not only scamming people, but he's also endangering their lives, leading them to think that his method is the best and they should buy his online course.

I know you have some videos on it already, but I’ve watched ‘em all and I would like to know more.
What do you think of it? How does it stack up against no-gi jiu jitsu? Especially for MMA (and da streeetz, I guess).
Why is it not that popular these days? And you you think it’ll make a comeback?
Also, I’m planning to move to a different city soon. Unfortunately they don’t have a catch gym there either, but I did find something called Combat Wrestling. What do you think about that stuff, and would that be something to train in the meantime until I live somewhere where they have a Catch Wrestling gym?

It took me 7 to get it, but that’s because I switched my style significantly once I transitioned to MMA. I basically quit playing guard and did more pressure.
That extra irritation set it up, it was slightly swollen on the inside. Then, in a truly ungentlemanly fashion, my first opponent decided (despite my clear indication to the promoter that I was a grappler) that grappling isn’t “mixed” enough for mixed martial arts, and chose to place his shin on the side of my head.
My ear instinctively inflated to shield my face from the embarrassment.

O, about the Headgear-It was not required in practice when I wrestled in High School, but it Was required in Matches. I Hated and Loathed Headgear. I had a Phobia of losing a Match because the Headgear prevented my head from escaping a Headlock or other hold that it would have slipped through without the headgear. I really thought that fear of Cauliflower Ear was a trivial non-reason to make Headgear mandatory. Incidentally, I rarely saw my ears, since I always wore my hair long and manly as an adult-except during my unfortunate time in the military. I seemed to have a dirty patch on one ear that I just couldn't wash off-and then I realized-I had a modest patch of Cauliflower Ear the size of a nickel-and it roughened the ear just enough to make it look dirty.

Friend, I have a question for you. Have you noticed that the OLD STYLE Judo Gis-as recently as the 70's-had much wider sleeves at the bottom & the body of the Gi was LONGER-reaching to about mid-thigh? Nowadays, Judo Gis have pencil sleeves and the tail only reaches 4 or 5-Inches below the belt. CONTEMPORARY Judo Gis look more like Brazilian Jujitsu Gis. I understand that having less fabric gives a competitive advantage-But JUDO GiS should look like JUDO GIS-NOT BRAZILIAN JUJITSU GIS!!! Does ANYONE market an Old Style Gi that fits properly!?!

If you're in Canada or the US i would recommend Fushida. They are based in BC Canada and depending on shipping, they are at a pretty reasonable price. Sturdy materials and stiff collar. I bought mine at the same time as my Matsuru one, and the stitching is holding up much better. Not IJF legal though, if that matters to you.

Ramsey, I've been training BJJ for 2ish years but it's been very spread out due to a couple injuries, so I'm only a first degree white belt (that's a joke I swear but I do have 1 stripe). My most recent injury was to the shoulder, and my doctor recently said I can never train in Jiu Jitsu again. Do I try a different doctor or do I just train anyways? At this point I would rather live in pain then be unable to train again as it is my love

I just got my first hematoma after an open mat on Friday. Drained it yesterday and now compressing it with the magnets.
Is this just going to be a continual process from here on out? Before the hematoma, my ear was pretty tender and a bit puffy but I seem to have further aggravated it after rolling. I had a pocket of fluid towards the inner ear. What happens from here on out? Since I drained it, will I eventually just keep getting hematomas that need to be drained? I’m 7 months into BJJ mind you and I’m pretty sure it came from yanking my head out of guillotines and triangles which I will no longer do.
