I pre-ordered this reel for my grandson in October. After watching this I'm hoping I didn't make a mistake. I have an assassin I've fished with 2 or 3 times a week for over 2 years and it continues to out perform reels I paid 5 times the price for and more. The truth is 80% of the reels on the market today are made in China, including Lew's and Abu Garcia. My Tatula was made in Taiwan. I've found that specific reels are better suited for some techniques than others and sometimes you just get a lemon!

I own The Kastking Spartacus and The Assassin, both are awesome reels, they have the same braking system and it works Flawlessly. Now the Speed Demon is a different monster, after trying and trying adjusting the brakes to a way that I could fish without problems, even after wiping out the excess of grease, I gave up on the reel. Not a user friendly reel at all. It was more frustrating than Fun, got rid of it. The Gear ratio was impressive of course and the cosmetics, looks like a really expensive reel but that's about it. Great instructional video as usual!!

Hey THE REEL TEST.... I just want some advice I m planning to get a reel for myself then I came across kastking speed demon elite ... by watching a lot of reviews and videos about it there were some issues with it stating that the brakes and the thumb bar getting stuck .... I m really interested in getting a speed demon elite but after watching all this it kinda worries me .... I m familiar with baitcasting I m not new but I m just seeking some advice from professionals so please give me your thoughts and recommendations for me thank you and yea when are you releasing a new video for the speed demon elite .

What do you think is the best reel or combo for around 100 to 150 dollars. I need a durable reel that I can’t beam casts with. I bank fish and distance is almost a must for me but I need a work horse.
I'll be honest its nice to see how far a reel will cast but honestly this isn't a deal breaker for me i would gladly take a reel that doesn't cast as far but I can pitch and flip with without problems how does it work with different technics that is the biggest thing for me or the drag is it accurate
Hi i'm right handed n i've been using spinning all this while so i'm kinda used to reeling with my left hand.Thinking of getting this reel so should i get the right or left handed baitcasting reel? I'm afraid it will feel kinda weird reeling with my right hand. Any advice would be apprexiated. :)
Well they have the left handed reels available now I think. But do what is most comfortable for you.

I have a lefty coming via pre-order, so the first thing will be clean the brakes & drum before I try using it. I believe the grease is not helping the reel out and maybe causing the major breaking issues I have read here. I do have a Kastking Bassinator and the brakes from what I've seen in your videos are the same setup on the spool for both. The Bassinator does not have any external adjustments though. The Bassinator cast heavy stuff good Frogs, Jigs, Punch Rigs etc. I have not tried anything under a 1/2 oz since I have other reels I use for that. (Steez, Zillions, Citica, Lews) I intend on using the Speed Demon Elite 10.5:1 for a Flipping and Pitching Reel using 3/4 oz to 1.5 oz on an X-Heavy Flipping & Pitching Rod... It was my understanding this was what the reel was designed for mainly with quick retrieves, but I could be wrong... Technique specific Rods and Reels are the new trend verses all around...
Im definitely going to be casting it around some more and get used to it, maybe it needs to "settle in". I remember my Casitas was alot worse when I first got it, then it "settled in" and became a casting monster.
@@THEREELTEST I hope so, for those occasional overhead cast while Flipping & Pitching. I believe both Brent Chapman & Cliff Crotché have been testing these in tournaments, so I know they're giving feedback.

Kast Kings have always impressed me with the distance they will cast. The thing about them that I worry about is the longevity because in the past the quality hasnt been great. Seeing how this reel is $120 I think theres better options out there like an SLX or a Tatula CT. Im interested to see what your later impressions are after youve used this reel more.
Also the diawa tatula 100 and 150 and 200 are on ebay for the same price range
Agreed, I've considered kastking a budget brand but if I'm spending $100 or more than I'd probably go with a shimano, daiwa etc.
I think KastKing is trying to step up their game, they are even being sold at tackle warehouse now. They have a lot to prove though because the $100 reel market is tough to compete in these days Lews has a soilid $100 reel also.

So far these have some fine tuning left f for me to start grabbing more ... that being said, they are the ONLY reel, (other than its predecessor), that i can say effectively fishes a plug pulling down stream in high water. Which is what bait fish are doing in high water so that being said, currently I've found it irreplaceable in my lineup... 4 seasons of fishing. Over runs still an issue 🤣

I was one of the first to receive the Speed Demon Elite and my initial impression was that it was well under braked. However I didn't get to work with it very long before it developed a grinding issue internally. The clutch mechanism didn't feel right and it sounded like the internal gears were meshing a tad on casts. I just received a replacement a few days ago and once again I felt that it was under braked. I just ran a Q-tip around the brass braking ring, scooping the copious amounts of grease out and then ran the other end of the Q-tip around with alcohol. It seems to cast a 1/4 oz lure now much better with 3 internal brakes on and 3 off now. Maybe with some fine tuning and practice I'll be able to use it.
I had 2 first gen speed demon pros that both seized up within a season. Kast King refunded me though.
@@troycote4503 I pretty much gave up on the brand. Every reel I purchased has an issue although I think the replacement Speed Demon Elite has stayed together and worked well. I just don't fish it too often because I expect it to let me down.
@@IRBent2 The one reel I actually like from them is the Kapatan 300. It's solid, casts far, and every bit as good as a Lexa 300.
It seems this reel has Haibo reel syndrome. The brakes must be taking a nap. The only thing that might be an issue is if the spool is overfilled. However, it is obvious the brakes have little to no control of the spool at this point in time. Or it might be an advanced experimental model; that requires user thumb control model printed in big red letters on the box.
You should try out the piscifun spark pro I just got mine and it’s awesome for the price

I just received this wheel and it looks very nice, but there are a lot of things that I don’t understand, such as the 6 bean switches inside, and the brakes from 0 to 9 because I can’t adjust it, I can only adjust it to 9 The number of digits will blow up. There is no specific manual. How to adjust and how to throw it farther. Can you teach me if it can?
the "beans" inside can be turned on and off. The outside dial gives you more or less braking power of the "beans" that are turned "on"

I have a speed demon elite that i use on my frog rod. It is a headache to tune in the breaks. But once you get it dialed in it's a good reel. And keep in mind that some reels work a lot better after its been used a few time. It's like it just needed to be broken in and now i have no problem.

Dear REEL TEST: Thanks for the review. I feel your pain with these backlashes, even though this is just testing, and you are expecting some. Some advice: When baitcasting, during an OVERHEAD cast, the reel handle should be pointed UP throughout the cast, if you are casting with your right hand/arm. If you are casting left handed, the handle should be pointed down. This will help with getting less overruns and more distance. It is really baitcasting 101, but many people have just forgotten about it, or never read or knew about this proper positioning. Side arm casting, as you know, is easier, and in this case, if you are casting with your right hand/arm, you would not have the reel handle up at the start, but as soon as the lure starts going out, roll the wrist/arm over, so the handle is up. If your line is getting all kinked and curled, because of backlashes, during the middle of your test, and causing more problems, you should probably spool on new line, otherwise your findings and test results might not be accurate.
the reel handle pointing up is a fallacy. Ive tried that in the past. Theres a reason why you never see professional anglers on tour doing that.
@@THEREELTEST I see them do it both ways, with the traditional overhead cast. (not a "roll cast", or pitch, or "whipping" it fast sidearm, like J. Wheeler and many others). It seems like the overhead cast is used less and less on tour, compared to all the other methods. And, yes, with today's light, super low profile baitcast reels, that position is not needed or used as much as in years past. But, on a pure overhead cast, this position gives more freedom and power in your wrist.

imo the older speed demon with only magnetic brake has much better performance.Kastking new reels have better material and more expensive but not really have an improvement on actual performance.Can you make a comparison video with the old speed demon reel?

Looks like you need a left hand retrieval reel. You switch hands after your cast if a fish grabs the lure when it hits the water you can't set the hook

Brakes - there is a click.... It's easy to figure oot on or off when they click, think you eventually figured this oot 👍I run both the 8.6 & 10.5 ratios at 4 off now
the click doesnt matter when you open the reel up to look at them and everything is the same color and the brake tabs are retracted.
I’m looking for a reel, I went bank fishing yesterday and a dude was casting near me and when he casts it sounded like a firework he said it was a kastking something y’all know anything?
An overrun at the beginning of the cast is mainly in part the tension knob setting.

Turns out, that tiny practically useless flat head screw driver on a multi tool is perfect for getting the centrifugal brake pins to actually lock into place. Also, the brake housing is flat red, the pins are chrome...not sure if they can make it any easier to distinguish and OFF/ON are printed next to each brake pin.

You can get a really good Abu Garcia for under a 100 that will out perform that reel all day long. That thing is way over priced.

Kastking speed demon pro is still better You only control it from the outside. Reel like that you always open the side cover succks
All kastking products are cheap Chinese made garbage. They make great paperweights but horrible reels. Buy quality from shimano or Abu Garcia. And don't worry about bait finesse crap. Watch tactical bassin and learn how to catch consistent double digit bass instead of little dinks like most youtube "fisherman".
You do realize Abu Garcia is made in the same factories? Abu is made by DOYO.

This reel is more for buzz baits so you don't get wore out burning in those buzz baits and it's also not a BFS reel brother so it will have a hard time getting those baits out there far and also you never wanna whip a bait out over your head especially whip it real hard...also you have to thumb ever baitcaster reel its what we call feathering...also mono is not a great line for far cast's and your definitely right about having the right size rod for the lure and for the kind of fishing your planing on doing...you should have a flipping stick a top water rod a cranking rod and a jerk bait rod and for all other fishing such as worm and creature bait/ spinner bait chatter bait fishing or swim jig fishing you would want a 7 foot heavy fast action the brand rod i use is "favorite" if it's good enough for two time redcrest winner Dustin Connell. Anywho I love your content brother...Godbless you and keep up the great work.... oh and if your getting 40yards in your cast thats GREAT. you can only get ten or 15 more feet in a cast even with a 300 dollar reel and baitcasters are not ment to never use your thumb to feather.👍
