Surviving a season w/ "1 chassis" would seem like an outstanding achievement for any team, Constructor Title or not.
I think that it can happen again, however there will have to be a major rule exploit, like the double defuser, and they will have to have all of the right circumstances, like brawn did
The Brawn story is probably one of the greatest stories in formula 1 history. A team brought at the 11th hour, having to put in a different engine last minute with almost no testing to than be bad fast at the start of the season, but than having no money to develop the car and only having one chassis for the entire year but have just big enough of a cousin to win the title.

I'm pretty pissed you found the damn hill helmet in like an hour haha I was certain that one wouldn't be found... 2nd hardest of the list i'd say, well played. def stepping it up for the next one.
It amazes me that every time I watch one of your videos the brilliance of Sebastian Vettel overshadows that of whatever you showcase... Even though this video is about the Brawn GP team it felt more like a prelude to Sebastian's dominant era! Still can't believe people are doubting a man who has achieved so much... Once again amazing video! It had brilliant storytelling! I am so happy that JB won at least one title! I honestly believe there are many drivers who deserved a title but never achieved one, example: Felipe Massa! You know you should make video about such drivers who deserve some glory despite their achievements stating otherwise...
people go back and forth and say I hate vettel bc of my 2019 coverage but forget I make all this haha. i don't have a dog but generally I feel his accomplishments are unfairly given to the car when it's just not the case. my only problem with that video is I don't believe drivers are owed anything. so it would turn into a video where it looks like I'm having a go at him haha if I come up with a fair way, I'd love to. I think it's a wonderful idea. i just have a hard time with how I view things from my lens. and you're likely aware by now how much I despise bias - my own included.
@@CYMotorsport I actually think having opinion is not a bad thing because that is what defines your character... It might not be always a good thing but do want to end being an opinionless robot that just spits facts, because my phone's Google assistant can already do that! We are human beings and we are capable of thinking for ourselves and that by default brings in opinion. Without that we would be no different from robots... It is why I choose to see your content instead someone else's because I like the way you think and that means your opinion as well!
@Prithvidiamond I wouldn't take it personally. F1, since the invention of social media is filled with circlejerking. It's the nature of the beast. While not a fan persay, vettel's talent is evident to anyone with eyes. One doesn't win as much as he has without massive talent, dedication and application. Does he have weaknesses? yes, they all do. His are probably more overt and therefore easier to identify.
The problem with vettel's legacy is Fernando and Lewis. They are just better, make less mistakes and are near immune to car inefficiencies. It's the same reason Piquet is rarely ever on anyone top 10, even with 3 wdc.
In time fans will come to revere but not during the current mercedes climate.
@@Bahamuttiamat I don't know man... It is just that I see a certain quality not just as a racing driver but as a person in Seb... He has always kind of struck me as the odd one out... I believe we are yet to see something spectacular from him... Maybe one last proper F1 WDC campaign... He may not win it... but he will get ridiculously close... He might pull an Alonso who tries everything possible but still fails... while some people might make more fun of him, I think that for people like us it will be something worth looking forward to!
We can both agree seb is a wonderful person. He's witty, a bit perverted and thoughtful. That much is evident. He's filled with a childish passion that few drivers encapsulate. He loves the history and the numbers. As a person, I'm very fond of him. But as an avid lewis fan, I cannot call myself his fan. If Lewis retires, he'd definitely be a top contender.
Despite being a McLaren fan, I was rooting for Barichello that season, it's why my son ended up being named Reuben.

Good name for a good little lad I’m sure! Will do
He will be proud of his name for sure !
The 2009 F1 season was the first time I’ve watched F1 racing in my entire life. I came from a NASCAR background watching Motorsport racing for two decades of NASCAR. Then when I was 13, saw the F1 Monaco Grand Prix in 2009. Saw it and thought this is actually pretty cool. So I was hooked into the circuit and saw the Brawn GP car dominate the year with the aerodynamics in which the team built a rocket. And at the time, Jensen Button was my favorite driver at the time before the 2010s came around. Yeah. Ever since then I’ve watched F1 for quite sometime. Not every race but still really a big fan because of the scope of the competition being from all around the world.
This was one of my favourite seasons. I am a typical Brit and love a good underdog story! I also think that had he been luckier with his drives, this season shows that JB could have been a multiple champion. Yes, the car was the fastest at the start of the season, but it was by no means the fastest _all_ season. Yet JB worked with the tools he had to hand and played the long game, doing what he needed to do to win the championship. Goes to show he had a champion's mindset. Imagine if he'd been in a car and team such as the '08 McLaren, or the '14 Mercedes?!
To me, he and Damon Hill (whose smooth driving style was reminiscent of other greats like his dad's or Alain Prost's, with the ability to take calculated risks and the nerve to do the whole "it's *my* track!" thing _when necessary_ - there are many drivers throughout F1's illustrious history who could have learned a lot from that attitude!) are two of the most underrated champions around, certainly of the post 1970's era. And JB's driving style was much like DH's. I love me a smooth but fast guy (on the track, of course!) 😜😂
Yet again, mate, you've nailed the storytelling. This really is your métier. Looking forward to the next one!

I was told by an old friend in the industry: "Put money on Brawn and JB" I laughed it off... worst mistake i have made. :p
Also this season was great season to Humble Hamilton, who had been talking about how it was all about the driver and that JB was passed it. Then the Brawn car happened, and all of a sudden the old Summer set boy of the grid shows that it isn't just the driver.

It still staggers me that Brawn, team that barely got their team and car together for the season would not only go on to 1 2 their first race, but take the championship in their one and only season. And a Brit being the champion to boot. The term “one hit wonder” is usually used as a slight especially in musical circles, but here it just shows how great this team was.
I love the Brawn livery too, very simple but striking with the bright yellow and black stripes. The manager of the MINI dealership I worked at the time loved it too, so much so that he had one of the demonstrators, a silver Cooper S, done up in the Brawn livery (complete with “Brawn GP” decals) for the entirety of the time the car was at the dealership.

@Backroad Runners I'll take a double points finish in a row with a car thats still the same race spec in Bahrain
Yeah not anymore mate. They are back markers again
Your videos are amazing, underrated channel!
Glad you enjoy them :)
I can't believe this. Just yesterday I was getting frustrated at not being able to find a proper Brawn GP doc. And you BLESSED ME WITH ONE TODAY.
Glad I subscribed and notification bell when I found ya last week through the rosberg-hamilton rival video. I watched it 3 times already, in a week. I'm a pretty new fan and is currently obsessed. I read F1 related books, listen the podcast, read up on their history, trying to learn as much as possible and you are the perfect channel for me.
The "How to Beat Hamilton" script is great and gets people on the seat. You don't linger too long on any topic for us to find it boring. But personally I think the title could be better. That video deserves more watch. I've been sending them to everyone and most agreed the title doesn't do it justice.
Ok. I typed all these without even watching this Brawn video. I'm sure it'll be great.
Keep doing what you're doing. I'll check your patreon later out if you have one. Thank you, Professor!
I got you! I have to do a better job of sharing playlists instead of videos but if you were bored, I put content in order if I was a new fan how i'd learn F1. a ton here and you've likely seen plenty but just case: czcams.com/play/PLQtJwn1M4Fe0ThI_35hPbK5BH0TKkwndm.html
@@CYMotorsport/videos Thanks! I've already watched every single one of them. I'll be following your channel regularly for these biographical shorts.
Can you also make the story of the 2007 season of Kimi? Certainly a lot of fans would love to hear. 2008 was good as well and 2011.
What a beautiful edit, this video is honestly a mini masterpiece
More brilliant content mate I could listen to you talk about F1 all day ❤️
Thanks TeS!
Love your channel keep up the good work and why don’t you do videos about a drivers whole career? It would be interesting
they'll be shorter ! called F1 spotlights. working on it haha i'm always knee deep in some giant story haha but I'll be switching that up soon. long ones will still happen but I want to create more for you and this is def one on the list
It is VERY important to recognise the contribution that the employees of Super Aguri made. As Honda were partners of both Super Aguri and (of course) Honda Racing, the team in Leafield did most of the aero work on what would become the BGP-001. Pete McCool and his team came up with the diffuser and, more importantly, how it would be integrated into the car. Super Aguri folded mainly because Nick Fry screwed them over in front of Honda management (so the story goes) - and when they were about to fold, Nick sent a load of guys from Brackley over to Leafield and took every computer system and server from the office - which contained all the info on their new car. The guys at Brackley looked at it, and saw the potential. The rest is history.
So, the BGP-001 was mostly the next Super Aguri car. Of course, without the Mercedes engine, the car wouldn't have been able to reach it's potential, but that's another story.
How do I know all this? I knew a load of ex-SA people, who now mainly work at Renault, Williams or Racing Point. My hometown is full of F1 people, and people talk. Oxfordshire is a small place....
it deserves a video all on it's own. That's why I left the space for it ! thanks for adding this nuance this is great
According to an autosport-article it was a man called Saneyuki Minegawa who came up with it. Your Super Aguri claim is an interesting one. But if McCool and his people were so great, then why did they not create their own car for that third season, since the Honda chassis they were getting was so terrible?
Thank you for the quality content always happy whenever I see a new CYF1 video !
you got it Winarendra !
I know the BrawnGP story, just wanted to refresh my memories. And I have to say I really enjoyed the video, well done sir :) You earned a new subscription :)
I miss Brawn Gp because i lover their color scheme soooo much.
I was sitting in the grandstand on the final turn at Albert Park, Melbourne on the debut of Brawn in 2009, its first GP. Just watching the cars going through that final complex it was very clear that the Brawn was far and away the quickest and most planted car out there. No surprise that it was the car to beat that season. The car was a jet.
So smooth. And reliable
what a brilliant video u made. well done
I had been waiting for this video for awhile and I must say I am not disappointed at all. Amazing video as always!
Thanks Owen! As I grow and can be more predictable, I’ll make a schedule for you all. Which I think will be really nice
Yesterday I was listening to Jenson Button's interview on Beyond The Grid and was thinking this story is totally crazy and now you made a vid on it's just AMAZING. Keep it up my man
Thank yourself for that! As long as I stay in tune with you all, it’ll feel like I’m predicting what you want solely bc the collective dictate what comes next. So thank you!

Another masterclass of a video!! Thanks for this !
thank you for the feedback Goh!
Very good narration and I needed some insight about this season... Kudos
it's one of those weird ones we know but dont know. Me included. took a while on this research and writing so I'm glad it was recommended!
The 2009 season was full of some interesting twists.
-brawnGP and button’s championship
-Red Bulls rise
-“Felipe baby, stay cool”
-the crashgate revelation
-Felipe’s accident in Hungary
-Toyota, BMW, and Honda fucking off
-The entire grid had a flip in performance.
-Force India becoming a solid midfield team
-Barrichello’s last win
Top 5 season for me for all the above
Great video as always man, top effort.
Damn, I had forgotten how bad the McLaren was at the beginning of the season that year.
absolute shit
Best looking f1 livery of this century
This was a very high-quality and well thought out documentary. Keep it up.
Glad you enjoyed my friend ! Cooking up the next one
I am binge watching your videos amazing channel subscribed instantly
Welcome friend :)
I remember 2009 my first season i have watched f1. I was 9 and my father was suprised seeing mclaren, ferrari struggle and brawn and red bull winning xD
Yeah Ferrari were just shit people totally forget about it all that!
@@CYMotorsport not shit they won a gp and massa was gone
What was ironic is that McLaren and Ferrari were full time manufacturers while red bull was a mere energy drink company and Brawn GP was a salvaged team on the brink of bankruptcy
Love and regards to ya buddy 🐶🙏stay well 🍀love ya channel. Happy UK sub
glad you liked it! was a fun one . wasn't sure how it would go but happy to see it's received well
What a story, what a way to tell it! Great job my friend!
thanks for the feedback Petar! glad you liked it :P
I recently watched your videos on Chrashgate and the McLaren scandal, you're showing great content both on how you describe it and how you present it ! Keep it up !
Glad you enjoyed mate :)
This was a wonderful 25 min break from quarantine boredom
I got your back! Back to the drawing board!
No matter how often I hear this story, it never bores me. It can only be described as a fairy tale.
Glad you liked it !
Great video, your research is well done.
Thanks Chris ! glad you liked it :)
This was a great video dude 🤝
" What started in some other place last year has now spread to every part of the world "😂😂
In the day and age of coronavirus, lockdowns and social distancing that feels quite relatable...
Hahaha right
That ending tho
I have so many of Suttons pictures from the Malaysia race. That neon yellow in the rain is iconic.
Great channel thanks from the UK.
thanks Eddie glad you are finding the content enjoyable. a lot more to come!
24:30 "If you wanna check out the action of the 2010 season you can click on the i in the top right corner" .... except.... it is not linked in the infocard
